Post god tier PSX games.

Digimon World 3 was GOAT as well. Replaying and it has some neat depth and details.
>>337561051
I wouldn't say they're all god tier but they are all worth playing.
Megaman X4~6
Crash 1~3
Crash Team Racing (Still better than Mario Kart)
Spyro 1~3
Battle Hunter
Dragon Seeds
Rayman (The original one)
Legend of Dragoon

I was never a big Digimon fan but I was so hyped I remember ordering this game especially but I was too stupid to understand how it worked for some reason. I wasn't a clever child.
I was in love with the setting and art style though.
The PSX dark souls.
I still have the original case somewhere.
Flanders was broken as balls.
This series needs a proper reboot.

Take off those rose tinted goggles, DW1 wasn't god-tier.
>nonsensical translations and bugged dialogue abound
>learning skills is pure RNG, brains stat is only useful once every 100 points and then completely stops being useful past 500
>skill balance is all over the place - the weakest earth move can carry you to the endgame simply because it can outspeed every other move and then applies poison on top of that
>have to spend your first 3 stages doing nothing but training unless you want a shitmon
>and in the endgame you'll also spend your champion stage training for a chance you'll actually managed to guess the very strict requirements needed for an ultimate, and then do as much as you can before the 4 days are up and he dies
>if you were young at the time chances are you never got any ultimate besides the welfare one at toy town unless you used a guide
>not that it matters that much since you can easily break the game even with shitmons with healing floppies
>literally everything about pic related
>only 12 ultimates, 4 ultimates are okay, 4 of them are balls with faces, 3 of them are shitmon evolution exclusives, one of them is a consolation prize

>The PSX (ピーエスエックス Pī Esu Ekkusu?) is a Sony digital video recorder with a fully integrated PlayStation 2 video game console. It was released in Japan on December 13, 2003. Since it was designed to be a general-purpose consumer video device, it was marketed by the main Sony Corporation instead of Sony Computer Entertainment and does not carry the usual PlayStation branding. Its high cost resulted in poor sales,[2] meaning that the PSX was never released outside Japan.

What was that game where you passed bombs to other players, and you were in a square room that you could flip 90 degrees?
That game was really fun, but I can't remember the name.
Legend of Legaia. The only turn based game I could stomach, you actually have to input attacks instead of just pressing "attack" in combat, different inputs result in different combos that are effective against different things.

The core of the story from SR2 onward was putting the pieces together. Defiance ends with Kain and Raziel embracing their roles and the realization that the Elder God can get fucked up. There are things that could be elaborated on, but Kain ends the game by musing that he now has hope. It's a pretty thematically conclusive, if not totally exhaustive, way to end the series.
That said I wish the series just ended with a more complete SR1 that utilized the original story draft. SR2, BO2, and Defiance were pretty dull in every aspect but dialogue. The original Blood Omen is by far the best of all of them.

I fucking love this game. It was one of my favorites until today. The story is very generic but you feel so attached to it. Also, it has a very high quality. Every city is different, enemies are different (well, at the end there's few new enemies but OK).
It also was very difficult. That first encounter with the giant lion, my nigga it was hard. Also, that fight were you have to fight 1 vs 1 was hard as fuck. By this time Gala is so weak that his fight is a huge pain and when you think you have won you have to fight a boss that will install kill you in 5 turns. Holy fuck that was fun.
At the end my CD was scratched and it got freeze after this boss that I mentioned. Only finished it couple years ago, still very funny after I grew up.

Megaman 8 was genuinely really fun despite the flaws. The weird depth they added to platforms made jumping a bit awkward, and the game was just too easy. I got all the way through Wiley castle and then turned the game off at the final boss assuming I could just start back up from right there, boy was that a mistake. Godtier music in the game though.

I was really hoping indie devs would fill in the void that a lot of PS1 and PS2 developers had left. There used to be a ton of diversity in game types, now a days everything is either a shooter or an RPG. Instead indie devs follow the SAME FUCKING TRENDS AAA gaming does but on a smaller scale. Rougelites and simple pixel graphics everywhere.

It was much less the case prior to the mid 2000's
the top dogs of WRPG, Ultima, Wizardry and M&M had sci-fi undertones and themes although later games in the Ultima series dropped them almost completely in favor of a sort of low fantasy britain

Yeah but it's more like get spotted get fucked most of the time.
Though I don't get what's your problem the stealth is pretty fun and simple and there are checkpoints. In 2 however the stealth is pretty unforgiving and most of the time you can't even kill/shoot anyone. You'd still be missing an amazing game.
Stealth is essential to the Syphon Filter experience so if you hate it then maybe it's not for you.

The encounter rate was annoying, progress was stifled by unclear objectives (finding Pharohmon by randomly running in around in a forest until you find a secret passage), and the battle system is, as I said, standard. There isn't much special about it. It's serviceable. I'm not going to bullshit and say it's the greatest of all time, because it's very clearly not.
And did anyone even give a shit about the plot?

This chart is better IMO
Hover over a digimon to see what evolves into what and click them to see their stat requirements
The reason digivolution seems totally random is because you need to have EVERY stat, which also means care mistakes and weight. I instantly got a Megadramon not after getting the right stats, but after forcefeeding sirloins because I was missing 20 weight.

Digimon World 3 was literally LITERALLY "Backtracking: The game".
They took a 2 hour long game and stretched it out to 30+ hours because every single time you had to do anything it involved walking across the entire world several times (and as you progressed, you had to do this more and more until near the end you walk back and forwards like 10+ times). Man, this game was absolutely fucking brutal. Like holy shit some of the stuff it expected you to do was so fucking hard. And you could fuck up and this made the rest of the game harder.
At one point some kid gets hurt, and you've got to get an item to heal him. You have a time limit and even with an absolute perfect run to get the item, you've got maybe 10 seconds to spare.
If you don't make it in time the item shop shuts down and you've got to complete an entire hard as fuck dungeon (where most of the floor is lava) with no healing at all.
Don't even get me started on Steamwood. That shit fucking traumatized me. I remember eventually I just tried fucking running away. It was so fucking ball breakingly hard I literally ran as far away as I could in the hopes when it exploded I'd be outside of the radius and not get automatic game over.

funny because i live in scandinavia and the only place i've heard it being called psx instead of playstation or just ps1 is on some sites on the internet
>>337564723
>People are using UE4 to make all sorts of useless and awful remakes
>They could just use it to make a good Pepsiman game with realistic shaders on PEPSIMAN
If only..
IT WAS ONLY EVER CALLED PSX IN THE EMULATION/PIRACY SCENE WAREZ WEBSITES SINCE DAY ONE, FOR SOME REASON
STOP THIS FUCKING ARGUMENT EVERY GODDAMN TIME
NOBODY ELSE CALLED IT PSX, GET ANY OLD PLAYSTATION MAGAZINE, NOBODY EVER CALLED IT SO
TALK ABOUT THE GAMES NOW YOU FUCKING IDIOTS

Nope.
I THINK It had a third person camera, but even that is fuzzy.

Got all 5 of them when they came out on PSN
>>337589825
I've been trying to get that Grand edition of that game running on Mednafen.
How are you running it?
>>337599032
How much did the PSX discs sell for back in the day?
I don't remember any price elasticity during that gen
>>337599249
Don't really know, might have been like 35$ the entire collection (Granted I did buy from a pretty shady store that later got caught selling stolen games)
But each game on psn goes for 5.99
>>337562652
Old fag here. I had one when I was 16 never was it known as the PSX, it was PS or PS1.
>>337562447
>Phantasia
>Not based Eternia
>>337599396
>implying they would sell a physical PS1 game for 6 bucks
I'm pretty sure all the extra costs were more than that alone, can't be

>Eternia
>Not Destiny
>>337599054
Running it on original hardware. Still good from when I first bought it.
Don't know what to tell you, sorry. Wouldn't know the first thing about emulation.
Why there are no games like Ape Scape or Parappa the Rapper now?
It feels like the videogame industry is void from any creativity and bold ideas.
>>337587978
It's pretty good but I never played the PSX one so I can't compare
>>337600336
Little demand, higher risk in development and distribution.
>>337589293
singleplayer = terra incognita (dude works for sqenix now)
multiplayer = gravitation
wtf factor = that unfinished fighting game
utter shit = that platformer where u jump cactuses and collect bones
>>337600470
But even games destined for a specific demographic such as Dark Souls end being casual shitfests with little to nothing from the original concept.
Is the videogame market dead creativity wise?
>>337600336
It's not esports, movielike, epic, or memeshit, so it's hard to market to autists nowadays (they would be turned into either anyway, most likely memeshit, so you don't want to see them making one today)
>>337600470
>little demand
More like companies being unaware of the niches that need to be filled like always, so they just resort to copying the #1 selling thing
>>337600686
Creativity is stifled by the cost of development, so... kind of?
>no Silhouette Mirage
>>337600686
The DaS franchise turned into casualshit because the games became mainstream due to youtubers' death compilations.
It attracted an userbase far bigger than the existing one. So the company wanted to satisfy the bigger audience, giving up the essence of their product for profit.

Holy fuck do I hate eSports and the "competitivity" mindset.
Games are supposed to be fucking enjoyable and for people to engage in a singular story by experiencing the game with their own eyes.
I've been a league player for 5 years and last year I just gave up on the game, just like I gave up on smash or any online game.
The average online player is a self centered faggot that needs the rush of winning at something at all costs.
I want my fucking Spyros, I want my fucking Raymans, I want my fucking games to be games and not a eSports platform where underage little shits flourish and become demigods because "le im gud at vidyageims xD".
Fuck Im mad.
>>337562303
I want to love this game so much, but the frameratetanksto 10 fps or something and the game speed is tied to the framerate, so have fun shooter slower than normal under stress. I've confirmed you can shoot stupidly fast if you stare at a wall.

BoF 3 was a drag until you defeated balio and sunder
everything else after that was pretty great though
>>337601360
BoF was too grindy, slow and broken, they were honestly average at best. At least the concept art was amazing.
>>337601137

Dumbest non-ironic shit I've read on /v/, all-time.
>>337571162
It's fucking awesome is what it is.
>>337561134
I fucking hate that game. You have to grind for about 2-4 hours to fight bosses, and there is no real consensus on how the levelling system works. Most of the guides I've found pretty much admit that they don't even know how it works, so they give you like 4 different levels for a bunch of digivolutions to reach a higher tier digivolution, and basically say" lol, I don't know. Try this."

Eternal Eyes was pretty cool.
SRPG where the bulk of your party is formed by monsters. These monsters are "puppets' -- inanimate mannequins given life by gems that you can find by killing other monsters. Applying additional gems can be used to evolve your monster into different forms.
I remember having a lot of fun making different critters, and seeing how I could evolve them

Batman and Robin
Aww man, just the other day I got an original mint condition Playstation and started building a little collection. I would have enjoyed being in this thread from the start.
So far I got:
FFVI
FFVII
FFVIII
RE
RE 2
RE 3
SH
MGS
Street Fighter EX Alpha
Oddworld
And I just ordered Ehrgeiz, Alundra and Front Mission 3 from amazon.
Playing these games on the original system with the original controller on a CRT really gives you a feeling that you can't recreate with emulators.
Where are my Vanguard bros?
>>337605016
Playing the games for real ALWAYS beats playing emulated versions, no matter the system.
>>337605016
Get pic related. It has pretty much the best jrpg combat ever.

>>337565979
As a kid I NEVER had a memory card for my PS1 and for some reason my parents never realized how necessary it was, so my brother and I would leave the PS1 on for days/weeks at a time to play through some games.
I probably didn't get far but the furthest I remember getting in Legend of Legaia is some rocky/cliff/mountainous area fighting against some sort of lion or chimera.
>>337586409
nostalgia'd
>>337573606
He could have so easily said arcanum, jade empire, space siege, ultima, Knights of the old republic, nox or mass effect. (the first one was good, blow me) Why are people so dumb?
>>337561134
I usd to love it. But on a replay Digimon World 3 is pretty mediocre 6/10 - 7/10 at best.
The only good thing about the overworld graphics. Everything else is horrid, the battle system is slow as hell, the EXP curve is fucked up and grindy the powerful enemies are less rewarding than ones you can one shot. The story is garbage and some of it is literally lifted from Pokemon. The RPG mechanics are dated with annoying backtracking, no fast travel, magic attacks are worthless.
Digital Card Battle is the best after Digimon World 1. The rest aren't good.
>>337607757
>"Hey mom, we need a memory card to finish our games, it's kinda like a bookmark and if you don't have it you need to start every time from the beginning. Then we almost wouldn't need to waste electricity by leaving the PS on for ages."
>"Sure hun, I'll get one tomorrow when I'm shopping."
?
>>337608134
No idea man. We played that PS1 for a couple years that way. And we never got a memory card.
I don't remember if we were too retarded to explain it to them, if they were too retarded to understand, or if they figured we had the N64 to tide us over so we didn't need anything extra for the PS1.
>>337580673
Getting enough tickets for peep cam was a must for me, riding your own coasters for the first time was great.
>>337561051
I'm looking for three games
>one where You are robot that can transform in some kind of motor?
>two where You are a guy that fights an egdy guy with big black hand, and You can also transform into animals
>three You are some guy with robotic arm and You can shoot electric bolts or something
>>337587506
>>337587743
Digimon World 1's requirements are actually even more demanding that just meeting the stat requirements.
You have to have the right ratio within a certain threshold as well. So if you want Greymon you REALLY need 100 offense/defense/speed/brains.
If you over train him and have lopsided stats like you give him 150 Offense or 200 Offense and 100 everything else you fail the criteria. For kids game that doesn't even bother telling you the criteria its incredibly harsh.
>>337563775
fatass
>>337561261
X6 isn't really worth playing IMO.
>>337572897

>>337608535

HOLY FUCK, i only ever played this on the demo disc.
speaking of, did anyone play the demo disc with wild 9 on it? there is another game i'm looking for, it was and rpg style with some platforming i think. i remember being chased by a boulder in the demo, but i could be wrong,
anyone else play Small Soldiers? the multiplayer was fun as fuck.
and im shamed to admit, but i played the fuck out of the game of life on ps1. the animations were scary and trippy, but i wasted many nights with that game.
