Didn't see one up.
How's your empire purging?

Question for more advanced players: is it worth it to go into my sectors and temporarily remove each planet from them so i can upgrade the planet capitol buildings? seems like a pain the ass.

What the fuck do I do with my vassals? I don't want to integrate them because I just found out it costs 3 influence. Fuck that.

Also how do you just fucking destroy an empire? I don't want them to become vassals, I don't want them to cede or liberate.

I'm really bad at this game, like actually bad at it to the point that I can't make it past the relatively early phases and everyone always has a superior power of fleet to my own.

What are the important things to focus from the outset so that I can ramp up in power at a consistent rate? I typically start out by making a quick territory grab to try and cordon off a segment of space for myself and milk it for what I can while trying to keep ahead of my neighbors.

keep in mind that more planets = slower research

build frontier outposts if you must but colonize planets just beyond your outposts so you can take the outpost down afterwards and retain your influence.

when you have more than 5 or 6 planets youre gonna have to put some systems into sectors, try and put planets into sectors that you know are done being built up on the surface so the AI that runs the sector doesnt fuck it up too badly,
>>
>>337527403

Mine's good too atm but was hurting early as I got in an alliance (as militarist) but it's worked out pretty good. Gonna integrate. If I can't expand/build outposts for a while so be it. What are the benefits or integration? Do you control their planets like your own? Are their planets added to your core planets because I don't want that right now?

Colonise a planet nearby or in the system before purging, or just purge some and enslave the others. >>
>>337532068
The sectors are easily the worst part of the game right now. I like the idea in concept but the sector AI is absolutely retarded.

>>
>>337533386

Yep. But they lose against an equal military strength fleet.

Should I not just be building the biggest ships with the best guns:?
>>
>>337533452
If you don't have defense then you are gonna have a bad time, try to counter your enemy if they have lasers shield those fuckers if missiles add point defense and so on
>>
>>337532068
Really, as my empire grows, I wish the AI was good enough to just put all buildings on auto-upgrade. Sector AI isn't really good enough to figure out what to build and when at the moment, they wind up spending their money on stupid shit like spamming hydroponics when they have a 10 food surplus. On top of that, their resource payouts to me are also somewhat retarded, if I ask for a small part of their money they'll never upgrade anything, and if I ask for nothing than they're useless to me. I think things would be much easier if you could toggle something to allow the AI to use your mineral and energy stores when building instead of having to constantly give them donations yourself.
>>
>>337533452
Why are they losing?
What weapons is the enemy using, why are they effective against your ships?

You can't just build ships like whatever and then expect them to win. If the enemy is using technology that is strong against your designs, then you're going to lose.
>>
>>337533185
>free 10k fleet with better tech than I had
Ok that could make it worth it actually. How long does integration take?
>>
>>337533256
Don't overspecialize. Use a good leader. Use the starport bonuses like the forge. I recommend including missiles since they don't miss, most of them bypass shields, and you can cripple the enemies fleet in the opener which prevents them from coming back even if they switch to point defense..

>>
>>337533719
i think it depends on how many enemy pops/planets there are. not sure exactly how it's calculated. the current vassal i'm integrating is going to take 600 months,

yes 600 months. i dont care though, they help me in wars in the meantime, and the influence loss is negligible

the direct way is to edit it in 00_defines.lua
CORE_SECTOR_PLANET_CAP = 5
increase to whatever you want

a more flexible way is to add a new edict with no influence cost so you can enable or disable it in game when you feel like it. it would look like this

Diversify your fleets

Don't have only one size class
Accuracy is king, then DPS
Smaller ships = more evasion ie less enemy accuracy so smaller ships aren't necessarily obsolete

Have multiple ship roles in each class
Make half your fleet carrying your best weapons and then the other half carrying a mix of shield shredder, point defense, and torpedo specialists
AI typically uses shields
You can change your defenses to match what you're fighting if you want but shields are fine in most cases

I just have no clue when to use armor vs shields vs regenerative hulls. If I understand things right on paper, armor adds damage reduction against all attacks, shields essentially adds more health to your ships, so they even out for the most part and only matter on which attack you're facing. So does that mean I need to put a mix of armor and shielding on my ships, or just go with one type only?

>>337540320
It runs pretty good on my garbage laptop. Only time I have noticeable drops is when I'm in galaxy map mode but that goes away if I zoom out.

I haven't gotten to end game yet though, so the deathstack fleets will probably cause drops as well.

Why can KI do this without getting smashed?

I settled on a holy planet and the FE didn't care, we became good buddies. Maybe they only smash you if you take 2+, I don't remember though, it might've been before we actually made contact, which also might've had something to do with it.

IIRC you can allow any species migration by default and there's a tech to allow non-primary-race leaders

The problem is I want to keep the aliums in my empire from migrating, I just don't want my genetically engineered super pops to be downgraded to second class citizens.

Same with race-leaders, but that matters less since my tropical pops looks identical to my primary anyway.

Xenos are tolerated, not accepted.

They automatically build structures on the planet, and you tax them for up to 75% of the surplus energy and minerals.

It's inefficient and wont handle any ship or station building, but at least you wont have to manually build farms and mines on hundreds of planets repeatedly.

Keep as many core planets as you can, you'd have to try really hard to manage them worse than the sector AI.
>>
>>337542697
Oh, also which is the best weapons? I've had the most success with mass drivers or whatever they're called.
>>
>>337542539
i've been trying to just set up the planets as best i could via micro and then handing them over to the sectors and hoping for the best.

i set them to give me 75% of their energy and minerals and it seems fine, they never are below a few thousand of each stockpiled.

i think the purpose of sectors is to partially gimp your income and efficiency
the trade off being that you can put those systems out of your mind and focus on expanding and fighting/diplomacy

If you play a Militant nation, you can earn tons of influence just by declaring other nations (preferably strong ones) as your rival. I just had my first win by colonizing 40% of all the planets in the galaxy, and I was almost drowning in influence points, running at least 30-40 edicts at the same time. (Both the constantly ticking kind and the ones that only affect one planet.)

But be aware - When you become huge like that, research cost goes up a lot. Pic related.

Also important to remember that you can be fully intending to give them rights and the rebellion catches you before you get the chance. Synths are dangerous no matter what.

If you give them rights, but you allow full slavery or purging, are you still allowed to do that to synths or does the accord give them super-citizen rights?

Engineering is the way to go, in my opinion, if you want to completely dominate the galaxy through warfare. I was at war with two different federations (at least 8-9 teams in there), a fallen empire, and the unbidden at the same time and still came out on top.

When I got my 195 planets needed for victory, the second best player had 21. On top of that, I purged every xeno scum and only colonized every planet type with my own kind of alien breed, and literally terraformed over 100 planets into tropical paradises.

The only person not of my own race allowed into my empire was Sobak, which was a genius motherfucker I kidnapped from a primitive nation's planet that I was conducting abductions from. Sobak was based as fuck. I will miss him.

It might just be impossible to make work depending on the ethos/trait combinations of the species in your empire. At least give them voting rights and leadership opportunity though if your ethos allows, it's a pretty easy way to add happiness to non-core species pops.
>>
>>337545169

Forcefully migrate one population of your own race over before you purge the other one completely. Or you can just produce a lot of food and let things happen naturally, but that takes longer.

You can colonize a planet outside your borders. Its radius will start small so you might end up with an enclave with your borders for a time until your pop/research expands your borders.

They really should have elaborated that you DON'T need to place a frontier outpost around a planet to colonize it.
