the exaggerated importance of swords. For most of history swords were SIDE WEAPONS and spear/polearms were the actual main weapons. For some like the samurai and mongols they were tertiary weapons

Every fantasy hero uses a sword. It's not a game thing, it's an aspect in storytelling as a whole.

Swords are seen as a more personal combat method, so when you want to stress combat between rivals two swords are the way to go.
It is harder to frame a clash between spears, unless you have the two characters cross shafts and have the killy end a hilarious distance from the intended target.

Yeah for massive battles where you only were able to find enough room for thrusting and overhead attacks.
And well that's about it. Carrying a long ass spear or halberd is clumsy and cumbersome as fuck. Good luck trying to crawl in some dungeon or whatever the fuck mystical forest, and trying to avoid your spear/halberd getting stuck on every wall or branch.
