I've had a vive for about a week now, so if anyone has any questions about it have at it.
>>
>>337517860

When you squeeze the lens up to your eyes, does the FOV get bigger or stay the same?
>>
What price point will the vive be worth it at?
>>
>>337517940
Relatively the same. I wear glasses, and I can still put it on with the lenses as close as possible. You'll always get some sort of tunnel vision effect regardless.

>>337517998
The current price including shipping is about $920 US. Depending on what games you're interested in playing I'd say it's subjective. Probably around $700-$800 is my opinion of worth it.

Do you think they will ever fix the motion issue?

Do you think the controllers would be better with movement sticks on them?
>>
>>337518673
>Do you think they will ever fix the motion issue?
Not sure what you mean by that.
>Do you think the controllers would be better with movement sticks on them?
Much better. Whilst moving in room scale is brilliant for immersion and preventing motion sickness, having to teleport as your only means of long distance movement can be disappointing. That being said, from experience if you're going to be moving with a controller you should be sitting down at least, that shit is disorientating.
>>
>>337518957
>Not sure what you mean by that.
sorry i meant the only way to move in most games was to teleport.

Do you you could do something like rent a gym and play all of your games in roomscale with running?
>>
>>337517860
I've had it since April 8th. Rarely use it now. No games interesting enough to keep me using it. Disappointing- but optimistic for new games.

It is fun to show to non-gamers. Everyone who has tried one has immediately asked where they could get their own after demoing it.
>>
>>337519181
People have explored other ways of movement with VR and they're often too expensive and time consuming to set up (see: Virtuix Omni). Room scale can be as large as 5x5m, which is a pretty large amount of space to freely move.
>>
I've had my Vive for about 6 weeks. Will also be happy to answer any questions.

Just to get it kickstarted; VR is amazing, and it is the future. Everyone i show it to has their mind blown, and goes on an endless rant about all the possibilities for it in all kinds of industries. It's not a gimmick.

In saying that, current VR is only for extreme enthusiasts. I would not recommend anyone fork out the money for VR at this point unless you are wealthy or super interested in VR.

>>337519181
>Do you you could do something like rent a gym and play all of your games in roomscale with running?
Yes, you can do this already.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VD4UlShicgY

This is just with 2 sensors. The more sensors you have, the larger the space.

My playspace at home is 4m x 4m and it is awesome.

The 'teleporting problem' is not so much a problem that is going to be solved with technology. It will be solved with better game design.

Traditional games will not work well in VR, and VR games obviously wont work without VR. They're just completely different platforms, and people need to stop expecting the same games between them.

>>337519716
The Omni is complete shit. I've used it three times. I feel really sorry for the idiots who refuse to give up on their failed idea.
>>
How many porn games are there
>>
>>337519404

>>337520094
is me.

I'm in a similar boat to you. I don't use it much anymore. It's primary use now is to invite people over and blow their minds.

In saying that, i don't think this is bad. This is just a software issue.

My biggest complaint at the moment is that there is no good multiplayer games (Hover Junkers makes me very motion sick).

As soon as there are better multiplayer games, i know i will spend a lot more time in VR with my friends.

Something I would really love is an archery game similar to The Lab, but its multiplayer PvP, and you're firing arrows at each other, sidestepping to dodge enemy arrows and so on.

Multiplayer Tilt Brush would be infinitely better too. Same goes for Mod Box and pretty much all creative games.

Even co-op Space Pirate Trainer would kick ass. I'm really looking forward to Raw Data.
>>
>>337520259
I don't know of any porn GAMES, but there's plenty of porn, and it's pretty amazing.

It's still a bit rough around the edges, but its really immersive. The best one i watched was this girl giving a bit of a lapdance, then fucking you. It felt like i was at a strip club or something, and i just had to sit there and watch, without being allowed to touch.
>>
What happens if i just want to sit down, and oretend im in a fighter cockpit for simulation games? do all games require having those two controllers?
>>
>>337517998
An objects worth is very subjective.

For me, it would be worth it at $3000. It's absolutely incredible and i love showing it to friends and family. Just seeing the smiles on everyones face is the best. So far it's been a way better experience for me than say.... a holiday to Thailand, and much cheaper.

I'll fondly remember these early days of VR for the rest of my life.
>>
>>337520094
>Just to get it kickstarted; VR is amazing, and it is the future.

It is lacking content at the moment, but yes, it is pretty fantastic. The controllers tracking is almost perfect, and there is absolutely no noticeable latency. Everyone who has used it, gamer or not, has had such a great time with it.

>>337520650
>do all games require having those two controllers?
No. Any games on steam that require the controllers will say so clearly, otherwise they can be controlled through any other means. I use a controller to play elite dangerous.
>>
Couple questions, if you don't mind.

How's the screen door effect and resolution right now? There was worry about the 1080P resolution not being high enough and you'd still get the screen door 'mesh' effect.

What's the performance like? Is it absolutely needed to hit 90FPS all the time, would 60FPS suffice and how hard is it to meet the minimum specifications?

Would you wear it all the time and do you think it'll get old after a while and you only want to sit down and play games from a monitor and TV?

What's it like being gay?
>>
>>337520650
>What happens if i just want to sit down, and pretend im in a fighter cockpit for simulation games?
That's fine. Vive works great for seated and standing experiences. Just sit in a chair and you're good to good.

>do all games require having those two controllers?
No, you can use any input device you want.

However, the controllers are mindblowingly good. They are just tracked so accurately with no lag and really make you feel like you're there. As a result, most games will be taking advantage of them.

>>337520776
>Everyone who has used it, gamer or not, has had such a great time with it.
I think this is the real kicker. My grandma is 84 and i don't remember the last time i saw her with such a big smile on her face. Didn't need to explain a single thing to her. Just held up the controllers for her, and put her into Tilt Brush.
>>
>>337520964
It has its advantages and disadvantages. I wouldnt become straight if I had the option to though.
>>
>>337520964
I presume it's pretty much the same as being straight.

You sound a little confused about your sexuality, and VR can likely help with that.

You can watch plenty of first person porn to explore all the different options.

You can be a man, being fucked by a man... or a woman being fucked by a woman!

Perhaps you will find out you are a gay trans ladyman! Good luck to you.
>>
>>337521039
Being gay is the easy way out for ugly people. Man up and get some pussy only losers are gay nowadays.

Yes, yes, we've been hearing that for decades. VR will flop again just like it always flops.

>How's the screen door effect and resolution right now?
If you go in with high expectations, you will be disappointed. Pic related is pretty much what it looks like.

The thing is, once you're immersed in an experience, you completely forget about it. All my memories of VR are screendoor free!

>What's the performance like? Is it absolutely needed to hit 90FPS all the time, would 60FPS suffice and how hard is it to meet the minimum specifications?

90fps is REQUIRED. Anything less and you will have a really really bad time - will make you feel very sick.

You'll need a GTX 970 at the bare minimum.

>Would you wear it all the time and do you think it'll get old after a while and you only want to sit down and play games from a monitor and TV?
Definitely not at the moment.

It's still quite heavy and clunky, and the resolution isnt good enough to do a lot of stuff yet (small text can be hard to read).

Give it 10 years, and we'll have super lightweight, cable free VR, with high resolution that people can wear all day.
>>
>>337521438
One of those 40$ tech demos.
>>
>>337521429
Altspace is pretty much multiplayer chat rooms, and it's probably one of hte most compelling experiences in VR. I can definitely see this leading to more kink related stuff.

>>337521438
The Lab (free)
Tilt Brush (free)
Space Pirate Trainer
theBlu

These are the first thing's i tend to show people, and are some of the best experiences.
>>
>>337520925
>How's the screen door effect and resolution right now?
Screen door effect is noticeable, but not nearly as bad as the development kits were. But the only instance where the resolution becomes a problem is when using apps like Virtual Desktop where you need to read smaller text. I don't think those kinds of programs will be feasible until the next gen of VR. Otherwise, everything else works fine.
>What's the performance like?
I have a GTX 970 and everything runs fine. I haven't really dropped below recommended FPS when playing with it. Most VR games are designed to have more basic graphics anyway, so the framerate requirement has been kept in mind. The Steam VR performance test will give you a good idea if you can run it, showing that my computer just goes over into the green. The oculus performance test said that my computer wasn't good enough to run it, which as it turns out is a load of bull.
>Would you wear it all the time and do you think it'll get old after a while and you only want to sit down and play games from a monitor and TV?
It's definitely not a replacement for traditional games. Games that are designed for VR will work best in VR. Most games can at best be enhanced, but in most cases using a monitor is a better option.
>>
>>337521209
Life isnt a video game. Easier is better.
>>
>>337520746
Desperately trying to justify wasting 90p bucks, eh?

VR is complete shit, and will stay that way for a very long time. Zero worthwhile games on either system.

>>

Cool. thanks. I wasl ooking at those anyways. The blu im not too sold on imo but ill consider it.
>>
>>337521438
If you got the key with the hardware you'll get:
The Lab (excellent demos of what roomscale and motion tracking can do, solid, but short experiences)
Job Simulator (great game, hours of enjoyment)
Fantastic Contraption (haven't played)
Tilt Brush (Great painting software)

Free games:
Surgeon Simulator VR: Meet the medic (short and sweet, and free)

Paid games:
Audioshield (Audiosurf 2 redesigned for VR, heaps of fun)
Elite Dangerous (enhanced with VR, but some issues with reading small text that have been acknowledged and are being worked on by the dev team
theBlu (nice for letting others demo, but not really worth the $15 for about 30 minutes of content)

Those are the ones I have right now. Haven't tried Hover Junkers. Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes, Space Pirate Trainer, Holopoint, and Vanishing Realms seem to be popular.
>>
>>337522248
>p-please stop pointing out the flaws

Where were any flaws pointed out?

The closest thing to a 'flaw' pointed out is that there aren't any worthwhile games yet, which is entirely subjective.

As an graphic designer, Tilt Brush alone makes the Vive a worthwhile purchase for me.

Everything else is icing on the cake - and that icing is fucking delicious. There's some really good content.
>>
>>337522248
- both hmd's have long queues to buy it
- endless praise for the vive on all media
- everyone who tries it absolutely loves it

nice definition of flop

dat iphone 6 was a huge flop too, right?
>>
>>337517860
Does sneezing affect it? It's allergy season and I'm Carl Wheezer. It doesn't cover my nose does it? Is it sensitive to sudden jerky movements? I don't want to break it a week after I bought it.
>>
>>337522403
>but some issues with reading small text that have been acknowledged and are being worked on by the dev team
FYI if you haven't tried a custom UI, find one that's mostly green. It works a lot better with the pentile layout than the default orange color.
>>
>>337523003
That's a weird question...

Sneezing is definitely not going to break it. At worst it might just move the headset a little, and you'll need to realign it on your head.

It covers most of your nose, but not the bottom. You should still be able to blow your nose, somewhat.
>>
>>337523185
Hey man, it's the little things that can make or break an experience.

Are you able to use it as a monitor? Can I use the computer as I would with a monitor but with the Vive? Would bringing my head "closer" allow me to zoom in on the screen or vice versa?
>>
>>337522403
I'm surprised people are enjoying Job Sim.

I think its fun to throw stuff around and toy with the environment, but the objectives and game are extremely repetitive and bored the crap out of me.
>>
Hey is there a way for me to wear this lying in bed and watch a movie like my google cardboard? im worried that its weight will not be fun to watch a movie in and also concerned itll be a pain to set up because id have to re arrange my room laylout ot have my bed in the playspace

There's also an application which allows multiplayer where you can see other peoples screens (over internet). Pic related.
>>
>>337523429
There's an app called Virtual Desktop, but from what I've heard the resolution makes it difficult to read small text.

You can access the desktop from within the dashboard during a game if you need to change sound or something.
>>
>>337523656
I wouldn't recommend the Vive for this.

The Rift would work a lot better, but the cables would still be a bit annoying.
>>
>>337523798
Damn, that sucks ass. I was hype to watch movies:S
>>
>>337523982
Gen2 VR should be much higher resolution.
>>
I have a Vive, but as its been said the game selection is lacking. Any demos I could try? I've played the Brookhaven Experiment which I was presently surprised at. I also enjoyed The Lab, but would like more. I'm turned off by the game prices especially for something so new.
>>
>>337520964

you just think about dicks a lot is all
>>
>>337524954
Ye4ah dude, I agree. its crazy that the prices are so high... but i think its because there are enough excited people to stupidly spend their money atm
>>
>>337525473
>>337524954
The prices are high because the install base of VR is so low. The developers NEED to sell them for more, otherwise it's not possible to make a profit.
>>
>>337525626
While I agree this is part of the reason, the games don't have the same quantity of content in them. Most games are demos at the moment. Developers are putting high pricers because they know they will be bought, not because they are selling to a limmited market.
>>
>>337526017
Obviously some people are trying to abuse the situation. I think there's a good about of affordable experiences.

Keep Talking is a great asymmetric co-op game. It doesn't require VR, but it does work.

>>337526716
It's not blocked, Oculus just said that they won't support it so people don't come and complain when shit breaks.
>>
>>337527372
Maybe Chronos.

Pretty much everything else on the Rift makes me motion sick.

After using the Vive, playing games without motion controls and roomscale just seems boring.
