you can only crouch during the run animation.
pivots let you use your normals during your initial dash. It allows for quicker and closer spaced smash attacks.

I don't think you understand. Friendlies are MORE representative of top play because there is no stress so you can play uninhibited without tournament nerves. Seeing the best players in the world get grabbed and immediately lose a stock, knowing that no DI, no button-mashing, nothing will save them from losing their precious stock is one of the joys of competitive melee. Their attempt to dance around that grab is its own art.

Which is very fair, if you dont have the base fundamentals to be good with your character without wobbling then you deserve your losses. Wobbling only becomes a necessity at top 8/64 situations where you're facing potential top 100 players.

So Melee and Smash 4 have been main games at the past few Evos, and honestly they had a good run, but don't mesh well enough with how Evo runs, and how different the audiences and games themselves are.
The players don't mix
If someone is entering USF4, there's a pretty high likelihood they're entering UMVC3. If someone enters Guilty Gear, there's a chance they're playing USF4. Same goes with most main games at Evo, there's a lot of overlap in the players. Smash, on the other hand, doesn't really have much overlap (even between Smash 4 and Melee!).
This means that there will be swaths of players that clash and make for a clunky venue experience, as evidenced by last year's top 8 Sunday where Smash players were taking seats from Guilty Gear players to save seats for the upcoming smash finals, forcing Guilty Gear players to watch their top 8 outside the main stage on a fucking stream. That type of shit is absurd.
If Smash players actually played fighting games and cared about them, but they're Nintendo kiddies and the only side game I've heard of them playing that aren't Nintendo are MOBAs.
Smash doesn't need Evo to grow as a game
Evo is definitely the biggest Street Fighter tournament each year, along with the biggest Marvel tournament, the biggest Guilty Gear tournament, etc. However, it is NOT the biggest Melee and/or Smash 4 tournament for the year.
It's big, but not the biggest. Smash players don't need Evo as a part of their scene, it's not even regarded as the biggest title a player could have (they have bigger events like Genesis and Apex and some other fucking thing I'm sure). They even got their own Beyond the Summit event! That is more esports than just about anything produced by the FGC.

Smash takes too long
In fighting games it's 2 or 3 99 second rounds, usually 2/3 or 3/5 for finals. Melee it's 4 stocks per player and the timer is like 8 minutes or something crazy. They also love going 3/5 as early as possible (but evo doesn't allow that). God forbid it's not Fox vs some character which will make games extremely long.
Smash 4 takes forever because it's a game about being defensive and campy (unless you play one of the few aggressive characters).
Smash will always dip into the schedule of the next game, hurting viewership like it did one Evo.
The hardware doesn't mix
Melee needs CRTs and Gamecubes (or a Wii's backward compatibility) because Nintendo hates Melee players and will never give them an updated version of the game (which is ironic because they've re-released just about every popular game they've ever made with each console)
Wii U version is clunky from what I know of it.
All other games are played on evo monitors and Xbox One / Playstation 4
This is one of my weaker points, but you'll know lugging CRTs around is no fun.

see, on one side you have the competitive fighting game community. it goes back about 20 years and is as old and well-established as any gaming community. it's changed over the years, but it's always existed and it has a definite culture and flavor.
then smash comes along, and a bunch of nintendo/zelda/pokemon fanboys who have had zero interest in fighting games are suddenly like LOOK WE'RE FIGHTER GAMER PLAYERS TOO because they now have a game blessed by his holiness nintendo that could just barely be considered competitive once you strip out 90 percent of the core mechanics.
