You know what time it is faggots. It's time for some Enemy Territory. This is the 3rd /v/olf thread, and we are playing this shit tonight. No bullshit mods, no bots, just plain an simple Enemy Territory like back in the days. So come on over, and let's have some >fun for a few hours.
>What is Enemy Territory?
Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory is a WW2 FPS based on Return to Castle Wolfenstein, developed by Splash Damage back when they made good games. It was made in 2004 or something, it's open source and free to play.
>What do I need to play it?
All you need to do is download the game, which is really small and a fast install. If you already have Enemy Territory, it should work too, but I'll still encourage you to download ET:Legacy. It has lots of improvements to the original game, allows for higher resolutions and more options. It's also more stable on Windows 7 and higher.

I'm hosting a server myself to suit our needs for now. It's hosted in Western Europe. Possibility of getting a dedicated hoster is up in the air if there's enough interest.

Splash Damage made AntiLag, which is quite effective. People were playing entire campaigns with 200-400 pings, no kidding. Try it out yourself to find out.

Full on pub-style, like the old times. 6 Map Campaigns, EXP save for the duration of the campaign, 32 slot server for maximum carnage. Heavy Weapons and rifles are restricted to 2 (of each) per team.

Campaign 1: Oasis, Goldrush, Railgun, Battery, Radar, Fueldump
Campaign 2 (to be released): Venice, Supply, Aldernest, Braundorf, ?, ?

Today exceptionally, we'll be playing on Friday to gauge if more people want to play today. Normal days should be Wednesday, unless we're getting much more people today.

Get ET:Legacy, it's linked in the OP, it fixes a lot of issues with ET on newer OSes, and adds a bunch of extra options like Borderless Windowed and whatnot, makes it so much better, and still as small as the original.

When I lg on to ETLegacy, it says no connection or master is down. When I try to connect to the IP it says awaiting gamestate... and then kicks me out.

A solution that may fix the problem;
Go to the directory; C:/Windows/System32/drivers/etc (depending on which drive you installed Windows) In the directory ‘etc’ you will find a file called; ‘hosts’. Open the file and choose wordpad or another text editor to open the file with. Now add a new line and type; 192.246.40.62 etguidauth.evenbalance.com Save the file after this.
Now go to the directory; C:/Program Files/Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory/pb (depending on where you installed Enemy Territory) In that folder delete the file; ‘pbns.dat’, and run the program; ‘pbweb.exe’. Wait while PB updates itself (this may take a while) and you are done.

You have to change/create a server config, launch ET and host a server there, tick the option "Dedicated", and then execute the config you want from the console. That's it really.

That was a lot of fun. Really shows where they went wrong with Dirty Bomb, but also what went right. Aimpunch and some of the spawnpoints are atrocious.

Keep in mind that DB is still a "beta" with relatively constant changes. They probably don't plan on launching until they finally merge their full staff back into the team (the crew that's been working on Arkham Origins and Gears for the past 4-5 years), and kick off regular updates instead of this slow shit.
If I had to guess, they're catering to the casuals right now because they're the ones that spend the most money (high level players immediately realize that there's nothing worth spending money on) to keep the game afloat, but once they gear up for launch they'll start to remedy the bullshit like aimpunch and go back to catering for the competitive player more than the casual.
Of course, this is just me being overly optimistic, but I really want DB to do well in the long run. Though if they don't ever let the community run servers or at least allow map submission directly to SD, I can't see the game doing well in that capacity no matter what. SD's mappers just aren't good.
