You can use SAM (Steam Achievement Manager) to run multiple instances of the same game and I think it will stack the play times up (so like running 10 instances for 1 hour will mean +10 hours played). Just make sure you're not in a real game and on a VAC server. You'll probably get banned.
Also it doesn't really take up alot of processing power (or electricity for that matter); you're basically idling.

There is no risk of being banned by running SAM normally. I've been using it for like 2 years to clear away all of my achievements once I'm done playing a game.
