Would you be dissapointed if you found out that if you played a battlefield game, you will have to play the game to unlock guns? On the other side, these are whole characters we are talking about, so I can't form a proper opinion. I'm not defending battleborn(I'm not even interest desu), but the game not throwing everything at you from the beggining has been a thing for a while in the gaming industry.

I thought it has been implement fairly well. It doesn't overwhelm you with choice from the onset and then give you a steady stream of new characters who you can either level grind for or fulfill specific challenges to get the earlier.
It's really not that hard to unlock the entire cast.

I bought it.
Played for a few hours, it had quite some depth actually.
Then the Overwatch beta happened.
Note that I already played Overwatch a few months ago. But this time the contrast between Battleborn and Overwatch really killed any interest I had in Battleborn.
When I went back to it (after the OW beta ended) everything seemed so unnecessarily confusing and painfully ugly that I couldn't play anymore, not to mention the horrible progression design.

I got this on a whim because a friend recommended it and I could get it 25% off at a key shop. I figured it would keep me entertained until Overwatch dropped.
It's fucking terrible. The artstyle is horrendous and all over the place, there's so much shit going and there are so many random colors on the screen from visual effects, it's hard to keep track of what's happening. Balancing online also seems to be really fucked, or maybe I just picked the shittiest character. (Orendi)

From what I can tell, Orendi is all about skillspamming, especially with those cooldown bonuses she gets. She really isn't meant to trade hits with people.

I'm trying - or was, I guess, I feel like I'm done with the game already - to do just that, alternating between her AoE and her Escape skills. I was wiping out minions with ease, but as soon as another character came into my view, I basically thought "well, that was fun while it lasted", and get killed off instantly if I don't run away.

I hated Battleborn, but I can see what you're saying about Overwatch. Still, I had more fun with it in the beta than any other game in the past 3 years or so. I really like how simple it is, and I don't think it would affect sales in any way. Just look at games like CS:GO where every round is the same shit, and yet people play it over and over.
They really just need to add more maps to Overwatch and they're set.

Orendi is a skill character to use. The bulk of her damage comes from ability combos. If you do them right, you can melt a guy like Montana, no sweat. The only broken character as of now is Galilea (she can tank, assassin, etc.) but they are nefing her.
I used to think the same stuff about the visuals and such, but bought the game and am now addicted to it. Unlocking stuff, Incursion mode, story mode, etc. It is a really fun experience for me.
As for OW, I found it boring as fuck. Like it felt like a TF2 tryhard and waaaaay to casual for me to even enjoy. Jesus. Like that Reaper guy? I was going 12+ kills and 0 deaths for an hour straight.
