Be honest, what's the most recent game that gave you the same feelings of joy and wonder as when you were a kid?

Joy and wonder being that you enjoyed the experience, not necessarily that it caused joy

I'm glad you liked it.

But getting your mech ruined it.

Nothing stops you from travelling on foot again. I covered a good chunk of Cauldros that way because the flight music got so irritating after forty hours of listening to it.

It was so long ago that I don't remember. I don't really blame the games for that, though. I blame severe depression destroying my ability to feel those things.

Wonderful 101.

Just so unique and fun that I had a blast trying to learn/master a game that did something totally new with a genre love.

It was a great experience.

Jazzpunk, I just beat it a couple hours ago. Before that, probably playing Explorers of Sky for the first time (I didn't buy it because I already had EoT) summer 2015.

Last thing that truly stayed with my that I tend to replay over and over is KH2, and that improved when I got Final mix in 2008ish on my hacked ps2. I made sure to get the 2.5HD Remix I replay it every year, but for some reason I feel like I love 1 more even though cobmat is less superior.

Monster Hunter Freedom 1, about two years ago.

I had no idea what to expect beyond monster battles and had no idea what I was doing. It was an uphill battle the entire time. Every kill of a new monster was a triumph. The difficulty brought fear of the unknown, and that fear totally absorbed me into the game.

I don't know that feeling. I was actually eager to meet my next greatest enemy.

Running into non-objective large monsters was actually how my most memorable hunts happened. Like finding a Basarios on some mining mission and having no idea what the fuck I had unearthed and that feeling of glee when that chest armor broke and it had begun to bleed. Or finding a Khezu in the jungle and again having no idea what the FUCK it was, killing it across a 40 minute struggle, and carving something I needed for a weapon upgrade and getting super excited.

I just played gravity rush for the first time. The movement system in that game is a lot of fun, I enjoyed it.

Trails in the Sky/Coldsteel. Had me grinning from ear to ear the entire time when I played through them. Haven't felt so good about a video game series for a long time.
Can't wait until they localize the rest of 'em.

Joy AND wonder, together.

I'd probably have to say Wonderful 101. I played the game very, very late and was amazed at how good it felt. The setting, story and experience hit all the sweet spots I'm a sucker for, and the ending literally had me standing up for the climax.

Such a great game.

everything about the classic CRPGS with a focus on co-op and built from the ground up to remove all the horrible nuances of the old CRPG games in multiplayer

Oldschool Runescape released Monkey Madness 2 last week. That made me feel like a little kid again.
>>
Mass Effect 1.
The narrative, gameplay, ambientation, soundtrack (oh the soundtrack), the mistery, the vastness of space. I really felt like a kid again.
Same with Dark Souls. Minus the vastness of space.
>>
Super Mario Galaxy. Not that I haven't played a bunch of fun games since then, but paying SMG for the first time was really something else.

dark souls 1 is honestly a game I get to gush about whenever a friend plays it for the first time. The freedom and difficulty remind me of older SNES games

Underrail

But to be perfectly honest, I only play something between 1~3 games a year, and another 1~3 that I end up dropping very early in. So the ones that I stick with do tend to give me those feelings of joy and wonder. I'm not playing a game if it's just okay.

Mah fellow diplomatic wonderful ones.

It was such an amazing game that had such a good balance on everything. I personally didn't expect this game to be as amazing as it was. The action, the humor, the dark and sullen atmosphere where practically an entire armada of ship is out to destroy the world, and the characters was just such an amazing refresher from games as a whole.

The ending will forever be one of the greatest moments in video gaming, bar none. Nothing could ever attain that sort of hype.

I don't play games I expect to hate, so it has never happened. Turok came closest, I guess, to achieving that.
>>
>>337462138
You can not hate a game, but still have it be unsurprising.

For example, I knew when I bought Borderlands 2 that it'd just be a WRPG with a Mad Max skin. I got what I asked for. It was good enough.
>>
>>337462374

It's just when I play games, I expect to enjoy them or that they don't offer much. To be surprised at liking a game, would require that I have to expect them to be horrible beforehand and since I usually give them a chance to show what they're about even if I know they're bad, the combination required is exceedingly rare.
