i used to play a fuckton of tf2 and loved it for several years and could rocket jump in tf2 before jump maps were even really a thing (pogo, wall jumps, etc), the people that are even bringing up tf2 are all 9 digit shitters who jumped aboard when the game became cancer. it's no better than overwatch but im not defending overwatch either since the entire game is designed around retards so they can get their 5 seconds of glory. way too much 1 hit kill shit, and that was one of the most frustrating parts of tf2 (crits). i enjoyed all the teamwork involved but the flow of the game has serious problems.

What the fuck, the point of the TF2 comparison is that it's been the only real popular class based shooter on the market for 9 years. No one heralds TF2 as the best thing ever, it's just a game that has been out for a long time with a real community still. Depending on where you sit, TF2 is generally only regarded as a bit worse or a bit better than Overwatch. All of this, and TF2 was cheaper on release while coming with 2 other FULL games, and now it's free.
The general point is, TF2 is older and more established, Overwatch is not really impressive in the slightest and people have had so much time to examine TF2 and see what they can do better, while the finished product of Overwatch is merely different.
All of this is not even mentioning art, because Overwatch decided to emulate the cartoon style it doesn't even look much better than TF2, which to be fair, is more impressive in regards to TF2 than weak on Overwatch's end.

Overwatch could have been alot better. It's tolerable, occasionally fun.. but I feel they dedicated more time to the "art" aspect of it as opposed to the overall gameplay.
Then when they had their internal play tests Activision was like "this is more then enough content, finish wow that makes us more money". Therefore and thusly they shit out what they had so that when you get bored after a few months you can scoup up legion.
Everyone shitted on TF2 before Overwatch came, now it's the best thing ever.

I felt the same way. They tried to make likeable characters, waifus, "play of the game", etc.
Any FPS game that gives you meaningless XP and level ups is a red flag to me, it's a cheap way to keep you playing.
I'd say it's on par with TF2 I suppose, some things are better like Mercy being able to switch from healing to damage boosting. But I'm not fond of class-based shooters as much now, I don't like losing in some situations just because I didn't pick the right class. So I might be biased.

I used to run servers since the HL1 days. We had some very popular TF2 servers but things went to shit after TF2 went F2P. The influx of literal kiddos and foreigners was immense. It got so bad I had to let in teenagers into our clan and give them admin just to have proper coverage on the servers. It became such a hassle I just shut down the TF2 servers.

I've played both and, while I personally wouldn't compare the two normally, they aren't that dissimilar.
Every gamemode Overwatch has, TF2 has and then some. The most notable differences are that Overwatch doesn't have various loadouts, which isn't even that big a difference because they compensate for that by having over double the character roster and giving the characters unique skills.

Does anyone else feel like there's a problem with the feedback from weapons in Overwatch? There's just something that makes it not as gratifying as I feel like it should be. Many characters don't really have impactful weapons, a select few however sort of give off a good feeling of feedback.
Landing headshots with projectile weapons like Mei/Torb's alt fires, 76 or Widow's rifles are accompanied by a big red X and a more distinct sound effect.
Hitting the body with most attacks only gives a faint thud or no sound at all, just the small gray crosshair indicator.
You don't really see the guy you're hitting react to the damage at all. At the most they'll just float/slide around a bit if the weapon has some impulse like Lucio's alt fire or Pharah's rockets.
And of course getting hit by most things doesn't have any effect on you except those tiny red directional indicators. This is both a positive and negative. I'd rather not have my screen jerking around and fucking with my aim when I'm being hit like it's a COD or BF game. But sometimes, you may not even notice you're taking damage due to the lack of clear feedback besides your healthbar in the corner going down.
Hell, even stuff like Reinhardt's Ultimate appears really weak. The enemies hit by this earth shattering, molten cracking hammer blow just instantly drop straight to the floor in a prone position.
It's really just down to only feeling like I nailed an opponent if I hit them in the head with one of the more ordinary straight shooting guns.

I was skeptical when I gave this game a try because >Blizzard >>20 ticks in 2016 and I can honestly say it was better than I was expecting, but I can't see myself paying for it and playing it long term. Maps are too limited and chokepointed up the ass and lack of weapon choice/custom-ability make it's replayability pretty weak. After a week of playing it was just got really repetitive and predictable (although that's more down to shitty players doing the same shitty strats). Only a couple of characters really stand out to me at all, the rest are either generic snorefests or lazy minority of the week the character (an american trying to do a cockney accent is always really shitty and bad). I can see the game being big for a little while because Blizzard will pour money into it's """pro""" scene to make it artificially popular like Casualstone.
If it was free I'd probably play it, but £45 for a mediocre game that is no doubt going to be riddled out the ass with dlc and season pass garbage? Nah.

Competitive TF2 is still way better than Overwatch. Obviously it was no Quake but it was just so much more entertaining than Overwatch. Soldier/Demoman/Scout is honestly more fun to play than any overwatch character.

I'm of two minds on the netcode.
On the one hand, TF2 has netcode options you can change on the fly to better suit you. You can set your own update and command and tick rates, you can modify your interp base value and ratio, etc. This is actually quite handy as different settings are better for different weapons (hitscan weapons you should turn down interp as much as possible, projectile keep it high)
In Overwatch I can't change my interp settings at all, but I don't need to because the interp doesn't move the hitboxes off of my on-screen model.

I don't know, actually killing people with a backstab from a Spy is nearly impossible to do for a beginner (except from sheer luck), since you have to understand what to disguise yourself as, how the other classes act so you don't look suspicious, and so on.

Phara was about hearing the other team on the other side of a wall, waiting for that genji/tracer to flank and distract them, press shift and surprise them with your ulti over that wall.

Fun is being chased by a pyro as arrow-sniper and shoot a burning arrow at one of his teammates that he himself ignited.
Same for fighting games. Combos are not inherently fun. But landing a combo, taunting and then teleporting behind the guy to land another combo is.
