Mass Effect's finale was a commercial and public-relations catastrophe, and SWTOR was...probably the biggest waste of money in EA's history, not to mention it was also a PR fucking nightmare. And then they went full SJW marketing Dragon Age: Inquisition and that flopped fucking hard. By that point, they'd so solidly alienated everyone who might ever buy their game and the SJW crowd they claimed as their "base" didn't support them financially.
So three failures in a row? EA is in the process of quietly killing them off in the background. If anything, they'll be put on mobile game duty for as long as they continue to exist.

They got too full of themselves.
Back during 90s they made succesful games with writing and stories that were above the standard at the time, and became known for it. But afterwards other companies stepped their game up, while Bioware didn't really get better. For a while they still got a free pass on the writing because they were pretty good, but thee days people look at Bioware and go "Are these guys really supposed to be good at writing stories?"
That was their selling point, and now that others have surpassed them, what are they left with?

EA took over. Although honestly, you could make a point that they REALLY wanted to get into the console market. Jade Empire was a prototype for an action RPG playable with gamepad. They scrapped that and made Mass Effect a TPS, while Dragon Age Origins got separate interface for consoles. And Inquisition stopped pretending altogether they were trying to please the old CRPG audience.

Im surprised at how well ME3 turned out when they released garbage like ToR and Inquisition.
Im not one of those fags thats ass blasted over the ending or believe what /v/ tells them to believe and enjoyed ME3. But everything Bioware released afterwards is just fucking horrible. I could not even finish Inquisition because of how lame the story and its characters were.

It had a lot of problems, true, but all the other stuff was at least tolerable for me. The ending, however, was not.
They realized that high quality doesn't make money.
In order to maximize profits, product needs to have optimal quality, not high. It needs to be good enough for the majority of the audience, but anything more is just wasted time and resources as far as money is concerned.
That's just the way it is in business. As long as the majority of their audience is satisfied, they will continue to cut corners to save as much money as possible.
