Jesus christ. Don't get me wrong, the game is good and all that. But the lore is so fucking contrived and portentous.

oh just fuck off. How does any of that reasonably explain why we are capturing control points in 6v6 format?
Blizz should have taken notes from TF2 and their whole Redmond/Blutarch thing. Just make it silly and self-aware. The whole humorlessness really sucks the joy out of it. Even what the characters say in game. It's a cartoon game for chrissakes, why so serious?

OW lore is purposefully light-hearted. If you can't laugh at reaper then you must be a really grumpy guy.

I mean... Of course it's contrived.
Every character is a giant walking parody. Sometimes with a twist, sometimes not.
Solder 76 is a walking bag of Call of Duty Bald Space Marine cliches.
Black Widow is the femme fatale / Catwoman wannabe.
Pharah is (or is supposed to be anyway) a giant throwback to Chaos UT99 / Quake III Arena / Tribes.
So it kind of straddles that line between being silly and a giant self-aware parody. and actually taking itself seriously.
