The only thing that really needs to improve in KOF XIV is the lighting and textures on the skin. The aesthetics are nice, the models are well made and the clothes are pretty damn detailed, it's just the skin that looks bland and under detailed.
I feel like this game would befit from "shiny oily skin" like Namco's games, KOF's characters are supposed to be attractive for the most part anyway.

KOF has long combos but it doesn't really have many of the staples of anime games, such as gatlings, free air movement, etc. XIV does have IB but it works more like the one in MOTW.

most of the alternate costume designs are complete garbage. The only one that's even halfway decent is Pancrase Alex.
For the most part character designs in SFV are pretty good. The only atrocious ones are Vega, Alex, Karin and Ken.
As for KOFXIV most of the skin seems to be made out of one solid texture and that may be a case of them having no veteran 3D developers and getting guys fresh out of college. It's odd because while the skins are certainly last gen, the clothing textures are pretty good. They could mask the ugliness with some shaders and good lighting.
I doubt shaders and good lighting are going to the save the atrocities that is Nakoruru's and Athena's models.
