you probably triggered the event that would spawn the mine and when you reloaded the event either didn't fire or did fire but decided that this time it wouldn't spawn a mine.

The loading screen is frustrating, when it's done loading, it'll use 5seconds to fade into the game but it doesn't pause the game meanwhile, you'll have 5seconds where you can't see shit and the game is running.

Make sure you follow the main route to Vegas e.g by going through Primm, Nipton, Novac, Boulder City and finally New Vegas itself. You'll get to see the most out of your playthrough.
Leave your options open. Don't rush with siding with Goodsprings or Powder Gangers straight away because again, you'll end up getting the most out of it.
Exaust all the dialogue options. There are some hidden quests/objectives which aren't initially clear. Westside and the Legion spy inside Camp McCarran are good examples of these hidden quests.

I had the same problem a few months ago when I was replaying it and everyone suggested a mod called Mr. New Vegas Secret Stash, and Im telling you that shit is ridiculously good.
