It was really going to shit post-JapanTime, which as far as I can recall is the last time /v/ was genuinely excited about things. Though I do suppose the 2011 review-leak of Deus Ex: HR did demonstrate that /v/ overwhelmingly thought the game would be good, which it was sans the ending.
So yeah, this has happened before, just not in about 5 years. 2011 was a good year for gaming, but a blip on what is a steady decline.
