I never played an UC game before and got UC4 this week based off the reviews and nothing else to play..... and wow, this game is boring as fuck.
Direct to video tier acting and writing. Constant ass creed style climbing sections. Intro that drags on for literal hours and goes nowhere when you play as a kid. Very basic gunplay. Just motion blur my shit up.
How is this game getting 10s? It's so safe and basic. Very dull experience. It's basically Ass Creed combined with the worst parts of GTA (the shooting) wrapped in a B movie plot and acting.

Uncharted deserves a mid 80 metascore. I honestly don't see how it's getting anything above a 9 from most publications. a 40 is a bit too much but sounds kind of fair considering you can watch the game on Youtube and get 95% of the experience you'd get from playing the game.

I always get the impression that these Uncharted games are ridiculously innovative and impressive in ways that don't actually matter to me. I mean people call Crysis a tech demo but even that has cool emergent gameplay in addition to all the TECHNOLOGY that came with the engine. I mean you're making a game about treasure hunting and shit, why doesn't that actually play a part in the gameplay or something? Shit, look at RE4. There's more treasure hunting in that game than Uncharted. And it actually MEANS something, since the game actually rewards you mechanically for looking around. Sure it's more videogamey I guess but even TLoU, the game that should by all rights be ABOUT rewarding the player for scrounging, doesn't put nearly enough thought into rewarding your exploration. It's been over a decade since RE4 gave the perfect blueprint for how to craft a third person shooter adventure game; how the hell to these modern TPS adventure games keep falling short?
