The whole "Tips fedora" thing in relation to my post seems a little weird. It's supposed to be an insult towards mid-twenties redditers who fully enforce athiesm at every chance they get, and yet Dostoyevsky is probably one of the most religious and spiritual writers, who deeply advocates the acceptance of God and virtue in many of his works.

It's hard to give suggestions when one does not know about your taste.
If you look for an intellectual challenge in literature, I recommend Borges (ficciones) and Eco (Name of the Rose and Foucault's pendulum).
If you look for imagination and fascinating imagery, Italo Calvino, Bruno Schultz, shorter works by Kafka, Bulgakov, short stories by Cortazar, maybe Milorad Pavić and his Chazarian Dictionary.
If you look for honesty of expression, then Russian and Japanese literature are a good bet: Chekhov, Dostoyevski, Gorky, Ibuse, Shiga, Kawabata, Abe.
Those are the books that excited me even when I thought literature does not have anything more to offer. But I do have my own specific biases (towards russian literature, magical realism and japan specifically), so it's hardly a safe bet.

Yes food analogies are bad because /v/ told you they are. Keep up the good work.
Food analogies are so common because it's pretty much the one thing everyone can relate to.
I'll humor you though.
>high quality harmonies and melodies
I'll never understand why that is important. It is pretty much listening to a song for the notes. What's important is what is being sung, not how it sounds.
The point being, you get more from a book than just information, more from a meal than just nutrition, more from a song than just the meaning of the lyrics. You get enjoyment from it, and the better the prose, cooking, or songwriting, the more enjoyment you'll get.
Beyond that though, low-quality prose can impede your ability to understand the book's message, while high-quality prose will enhance your understanding.

Food analogies are some of the least subjective analogies you can make. Everybody eats, pretty much everyone would prefer tasty food to tasteless food. If my analogy "didn't work" you really didn't get it, you might actually, literally, I don't mean this in a meme-y 4chan way, be on the spectrum

>?
No. That was another anon, I just saw your comment dismissing the fact that it's better for something you read to be well written, and jumped in there.
>Following that logic if the content is good/important/worthwhile but the prose is shit, it's still better to read that then reading something with good prose that isn't telling you anything new, which is exactly my point, prose is not important.
Following your logic, it would be best to do away with prose all together. It's best, and most efficient, to just read summaries of books on wikipedia or sparknotes. That way you get all the information and ideas without all that bothersome aesthetic experience, and you'll even get some interpretation and explanation without the need to think.
Bad content + poor prose = worst option
Bad content + good prose or good content + bad prose = second best option, depending on perspective and preference
Good content + good prose = best option, hands down.

Get it on PSN. If you MUST have a physical copy make sure they have pictures of the manual, insert, discs, and case. The game is fantastic and arguably could have been the FF7 of the gen if it had the money it needed.
You may want to spend the big dollars on the large text that they sold afterwards. Don't remember the name but its full of amazing art and lore. Problem is I believe its entirely in Japanese. A much better collector's item, though.

If you're polite and the seller is competent just say you're an interested buyer who would prefer pictures of an item prior to the sale. If need be you can always try to seduce them with an extra five dollars. Keep in mind that since Xenogears is seen as HIPSTER it will have a gross price if you want it in a nearly peistine condition. I can't reply for /lit/ seeing as my tastes and reading comprehension are basically a child's but you have to keep in mind that literature is arguably the oldest and most refined of all forms of media. Every year thousands upon thousands of books are published, if not more. This means that much like video games, you must seek before you can find. Taste is wholly subjective and what shoe may fit Tim may not fit Jim. Don't ask others for advice, though that seems completely retarded; instead look for your own tastes and read accordingly. If you really want a break from your norm than try to look for things that leave you intrigued from the summary alone.
>>337375690
Nobody acts like /lit/ is a great medium. It's overrun with shitters now because it's so easy to print a book, or shit even just self-publish an eBook.
Video games are a shit medium because it had the highest potential and sold out. At least there are only a few awful authors making ridiculous loney, /v/idya has scores of scumbag losers making millions of sweaty NEET welfare.
Fanbase makes the medium. Do something about it, or forever complain to anons on the internet.

I wish I could remember the books as well as you seem to. I know that most of the billains are racist as all hell but making Roland black eliminates so many character's arcs that its not even funny. Wasn't there a black woman bound to a wheelchair because some cunt dropped a brick on her head when she was younger, and some drug addled nobody ended up loving her all the same? Wasn't Roland supposed to be relresentative of the time the romantic cowboy existed and then thrown into various other timelines and worldvies due to the characters he meets? Yes, he was travelling with Eddie Dean the druggie and Susannah Dean who is a wheelchair bound black woman.
Her personality split in two when a serial killer dropped a brick on her head.
The same guy then later shoved her infront of a train, which cut of her legs.
Her personality was split into a streetwise Detta Walker who was incredibly racist and Odetta Holmes who was just an upper class lady.
Detta Walker practically tried to kill Roland and Eddie for an entire book, because they were white.

That's not a novel.
In attempt to seem smart you've completely neglected to follow the instructions properly. You didn't even comment in any way about adapting the book to a game. You just came here so you could post that euphoric comment about your programming book.
>rising of the shield hero (light novel)

I would love to see how the madman makes a battle system centered about fighting with ONLY a shield while other people fight you with other weapons

FUCK YES. Can't really imagine turning the book into a game since so much is left to imagination, but if any developer could handle the weird humour, it's probably Valve

I feel as if I must've appended something close to a disclaimer to my post that mentions how I feel that I can't even get around to reading a novel without feeling guilty that I wasn't reading a book like TAOP. There's no need to get snarky on me for not giving you a roadmap to why I even decided to pick up the book, and there's especially no need to get accusatory that I just came here to tip my fedora, instead I came here to maybe expand the original thread to include books that are similar to the one that I'm currently reading.
>The Jews and There Lies by Martin Luther
>Tribes Ascend
>>337350758
>The Idiot by Dostoevsky
>Fallout 4
The writing will be shit, I can say that much.
>>337387483
You were doing no such thing. The thread is about book to game adaptations, which cannot be done with nonfiction. The thread cannot be expanded in the way you are suggesting. Nice try, though.

Assuming you're playing as Touma, it would be a little strange but combat based around blocking and moving at the right time by FROM could be interesting.
Some of the fights would be complete bullshit though. I don't think this could work without rotating characers through the story. Creating your own character and choosing an esper power or magic type at the beginning of the game might work better.

I'm enjoying them. The main character is as different from your standard hero as Jorg, in a different way, and even though he's a seflish cunt most of the time, you find yourself rooting for him.Looking forward to the conclusion.
I will say that the subplots aren't as interesting yet, like the way the first series would have '4 years ago' or whatever sections which tied in later in the book, I enjoyed that.Jorg going out of his way to get that gun for his duel in the second book if i remember correctly, I enjooyed,
>>337351671
What's fetishy in the notebook? I just remember that being chick flick of chick flicks back in the 2000s. Guy has to go to war, woman loves him and they kissing on the cover, think at the end she's got altizimers or something and he stll wuvs her or she still remembers his wuv.

Well, that'd be an interesting project.
I trust that the team at Capcom has the skill necessary to turn something like Neuromancer into a compelling modern game, but if it can't even transfer to film correctly I can't see a game working out.

I guess it ends up very similar, although the playable characters would be mostly normal people rather than based on Biblical figures. Probably still lots of demonic things happening, the book becomes interesting once the spooky stuff starts actually happening.
>>337392653
I know, I read all of them before as well as the short stories.

Blood of Elves isn't super actiony, so I don't know how well FromSoft could adapt it considering their track record of pure storytelling. They could probably extend the battle scenes since most action takes place at the end of each chapter (there's 7 chapters in the almost 400 page book).
Now, a Witcher 3 remake by FromSoft would probably be bretty gud...
