That's not true, many Frenchmen held the line at Dunkirk to get the Brits back home. It was really just the old, French generals that fucked things up because they never thought Germans would come through the Ardennes.
France actually had nice equipment at the start of the war, they spent the most money per soldier for defense. Had nice rifles and tanks for the time, just got maneuvered, and once the capital was gone all the bravery in the world won't turn around.
France also took the brunt of losses in wwi, and their birthrate never got to replacement status in the inter war era. Combine that with some sympathy to the German struggle and mild citizen appeal to Fascism, and there wasn't much reason to fight.
