That does not help a lot when you're in melee range. You can't attack with it on, you can only block the front and you're likely to be flanked because you're in melee range, and people can melee you because you're in melee range. Using deflect effectively in that range requires skill.

It was the opposite for me, though really late in the beta I kept getting matched up with players half of my level. I was 30 and most of the players on my team would be 15 or less.
Tbh, it wasn't Bastion that gave me problem as it was with Torb's fucking turrets. The tracking and range should be reduced on them in the very least. The map designs just exacerbated the issue. A lot of them, with the worst being Hanamura, that just funnel the attacking team into one area.

Yep, that's probably the most unbalanced thing about Bastion is that you can't just shake him from a point with small amounts of damage. You have to blow him up really quickly or he just shrugs it off and heals to full. A sniper that catches some rocket or grenade splash damage will be sent running to get a health kit.

Bastion by himself is annoying at best. When your team is terrible and theirs is half capable, that's when he's a nightmare. And that's why everyone is crying about him. The very nature of matchmaking makes him strong, even moreso in betas when all the shitters are playing.
