3 has been in development for about 2-3 years now they've been making a game a year since at least KH2 and they're required to know what the fuck is going on. Also KH3 loks fun as fuck from the short amount of they've shown. If you end up liking KH1 there are 2 HD collections out on the PS3 and a third one on the way for PS4 to get you caught up.

Kingdom Hearts is the game where I realized I needed to make a distinction between games I liked personally, and games I thought were good objectively.

I kind of agree, but it's undeniable that the story for 2/CoM was just written to be cool/interesting/epic without bothering to make sure that it made sense. The other games having to fill in the gaps is proof of this, especially how in KH1 there is supposed to be only one keyblade and then in KH2 like 4 people use them and then Square was like o yea lol
also the combat is best in kh2fm and khfm. handheld combat is known to be experimental and i hope it doesn't bleed into kh3 and ruin it for me.

Everything does make sense. And no, you're wrong. In Kingdom Hearts 1 it was stated there were other wielders, Sora was just one of the chosen, and you see Mickey at the end holding one for fuck's sake. None of the games have had a problem with the story or had to fill in any gaps. From KH1 to CoM it was actually well thought out and connected pretty good. Plus they had the secret ending in KH1.

As someone who played it when it came out and replayed it last summer, I can tell you you are in for a pretty good game which hasnt aged well.The controls felt so much better when it came out but right now they feel pretty clunky.
It's still pretty enjoyable.
