i get the feeling that bamco chooses the poster armor and makes the intro cinematics and shit around them. DaS2 was clearly supposed to have Alva as the poster armor, and the Knight set was featured heavily in DaS3's promo material.

Dragleic is half point of game, like Anor Lando. And if we want to be technical, the rusty armor with red cloth was supposed to be the poster armor, and you can get that by spending some souls at the merchant at the very begging.
But otherwise yes it's a pattern. Flute armor best armor.
The Elite Knight armor looks fantastic in DS2, so I just wear it and consider the poster armor to be a late-game upgrade like the Mark II power armor was in Fallout 2.
