There have been more private servers popping up - Ultima is the other big one, but Ephinea is a more realistic copy of the original, live game.

Playing through the entirety of episode 1 and 2, and maybe playing through for an entire year just to catch the season events are worthless. The seasonal quests just have a magical air and timelessness about them that really captures the sensation of being the first sort of console MMORPG, or even the first game of its kind. yesdterday there was a 50 meg update, right? I start the Twerker and it's like 'you want new Twerker version?' I say no. Then I manually tell it to download the 50 meg patch for me, if you please. I was so hyped for PSP2 until I got my hands on it. The chain system and pp bar for all weapons completely slowed the pace of the game down. I prefer the more PA spammy and each weapon having its own pp bar like in PSU.
I think its mostly nostalgia based. PSU wasnt PSO2 and people hated it just for that. PSO is a pretty solid game but its very limited. PSU amplifies on lobbies, gameplay, customization (player and room), storytelling (episode 1 is meh, but the online stories were actually very good and had some interesting drama if you paid attention to the story), content/areas, weapons, events, and so on. I think the only thing PSO has over it is music and atmosphere, maybe art style to.
I played PSO first way before PSU was out and think PSU was a lot better. Ill concede to PSO being better than v1 PSU, but AOTI and onwards? Nah, AOTI revamped and fixed the biggest flaws PSU had at first.

My favorite was my Human with the magic and melee class and a Cast Protranser. Wish they balanced things better setting traps with the Protranser could had added a lot more depth to the game

i remember damn near everything from PSU because i had both the demo and full game and i played it daily for years. You kidding me man? protransers were super useful and the stun and burn traps could tear bosses up, while freeze traps would hold everything down for you to swing at with spear/axe or shoot with a shotgun. parties fucking LOVED protransers that would keep everything in place. fighgunner was a pretty dank class though, having double sabers, twin swords, and twin handguns all together was pretty fun. I started out as a hunter but then overtime just mained ranger and force and support classes. Cant forget my roots though. Ephinea has a section ID changing command that you can use before lvl 20. So your name doesn't matter, just set the ID you want when you get in the lobby.
After lvl 20 though you're stuck with both your name and section id.

I don't remember ever seeing a lot of Protransers but this was so long ago I know I'm forgetting things. I really did enjoy PSU too, I loved using the Carrigune-Rucar and just tornado attacking to quickly move through a level and then going duel knives and guns to take out mobs. It was a great time, even that demo which really was something special I've yet to play a game that replicates that feeling

Protransers were kind of rare true but they usually popped up more during events. I liked to think i played a decent protranser too, using traps and heavy weapons effectively. Tornado dance to zoom ahead past everyone, i remember your kind...that shit was annoying to those of us who didnt have access to double sabers lol. Twin daggers were also fun weapons but they never hit hard enough for my liking, still though, fun PAs. Im sure you remember when axes and anga jabroga was the go to for noobs, refer to this video if you forgot this beauty of a PA. I totally agree how no other game has managed to capture the same feelings PSU did. It was just a good game that came out at the right time and realistically, it was between that or the final fantasy mmo for 360 users as far as online RPGs went. And psu was a lot easier and more fun to get into.

I know that feel. Tornado dance with fighmaster speed, it was hard to go back. They actually made an update that reduced the travel speed of that PA since they caught on that people were using it for transportation. I always had a soft spot for axes, i generally preferred the twin or single handed weapons, but axes were fun to use and level up. some of the later end game axes were huge too, which looked funny on my manlet cast. Of course it was all fun and games, thats what psu was.
Casino voloyal, now that was a great area. Watching people bet stacks of silvers or seeing that rare giant gold coin floating, only for it to flush down once it lost was grand. Apparently there was some way to rig the roulette or it had a set pattern...I never believed that

Yep good times I actually remember the very last day of the servers after talking about the game, everyone was at the memorial site after you beat Dark Falz on the very last day just remembering the good times and giving away everything. Played it right till the very last second they got shut off. I miss it dearly

I took pictures of that and yet i cant find it the folder those are in. Im praying hard right fucking now hoping i didnt delete it or something happened. That music that played at the falz memorial was so sad yet so fitting, it was a great way to see the game off. I did a planetary tour hours before the servers shut down, doing every mission in the game. I wasnt able to get one more rare mission during that time :(

PSOBB.exe gets a false positive in every antivirus on every server. It's safe, it's just the patching method the exe's use. Every server gets flagged by Antivirus. Just add your psobb folder to your exceptions and go.
Also dont play on ultima, it's a pay2win server full of central and south americans. The economy is literally dominated by donator tickets.
