The only artistic complaint I even have is the jaggies on the border line.
>>337288674
the lack of detail really kills any kind of rp in the game since there's nothing to rp about it in, who cares about taking over some barren looking land?

I care
>>337289094
you can but I don't find it as easy
>>337288981
It's kind of necessary because of city improvements have being stretched all across the map now instead of compacted into one tile.
The colors could be a little less vibrant but that's my only complaint (so far).
If Alexander is in this game again I'm going to commit Sudoku

That's unfortunate for you

To the fag from the other thread:
lol what? You think there's a reason Germany historically had a weak navy and England had a great one other than muh magic IRL bonus? Starting position should change your whole style

Just look at those buildings in the lower pic.
Why are the styles so widley inconsistent?
The city looks asian, but the outlying buildings are a completely different style.
this really doesnt bode well. Shaping up to be one of the ugliest games of our time.
>>337289703
not him but hoping for multiple leaders. and lots of people like Ghandi never actually led their country, so why not Plato as the second Greek leader?
I remember getting V on sale and then installing it and trying to play for a bit before realizing it wasn't that good. Do I need a DLC? I was really into Civ 2 and thought it had a lot of great features and tons of depth. Am I missing something from V? Almost felt like a demo
>>337288674
Hello, i've never fucking ever played a Civ game in my entire life. Civ 5 complete is on sale- should I get it? Is it any good?

It's much better but not great with the expansions. Play Civ 4 if you haven't instead
This shits getting aimed at tablets, thats why the graphics are colourful with no fucking detail.
Kind of hope none of the civilizations have bonuses that rely on city states this time around.
Also hope that diplomatic victories aren't the easiest thing in the game to achieve

>>337289915
Doesn't it have a demo you can download? I think the demo lets you play the first 100 turns if it's still available. You will find out if you want to buy the game in those 100 turns.
>>337289936
>minor graphical improvement
Ha, no
This is a list of civilizations throughout the main series titles.
The constants (in every Vanilla):
America
Aztecs
China
Egypt
England
France
Germany
Greece
India
Japan
Rome
Russia
(Special mention to Persia, which was only missing in the first game.)
I would probably count on all of those making the base game this time as well. The trend of late is also to have some balance and representation for the whole world, so I wouldn't be surprised if Arabia makes its third in a row for a middle east representative. Africa and (native) North America haven't been as consistent (at least, ever since Zulu started showing up in the expansions).
There's always a good chance for an unexpected newcomer, too.
>>337288674
>>337289701
Yh, hope the gameplay isn't made simpler too.
Also the leader screens should be like the ones in V.

>>337290114
i'm not talking about aesthetics, i'm talking about 'graphical improvements' in the sense that they think it's better by adding 12,000 more poly's to everything for no reason at all.
>>337290128
The leader screen in V were GOAT. I have a horrible feeling the leaders are going to be like those in Civ Rev, just to save money on voice acting and detail.
>>337290350
If those different looking tiles aren't resources the "no detail" people are going to look like idiots
>>337289915
Full Civ V is hands down the best Civ. Civ IV faggots will be obnoxious, but they're literally the Melee-fags of the Civ genre. Civ II and V are the pinacles of the genre, with IV as a close third.
Civ V full with mods is GOAT. I have over 2k hours in it, and only 900 hours in Civ IV with mods.

>>337290780
Civ V full is near perfection itself. There are only 2 useless Civs. Even "bad" civs like America and France are good enough to run away with a game. The only reason "tiers" exist is because weaker civs usually have more requirements to run away with the game, like a nice salt deposit nearby, or certain map types with a lot of water. Arabia and Mongolia are significantly stronger if it's a Pangaea map, but Denmark and Polynesia are better off with continents/archipelago.

No more stacks of death, thank God, but less of the blankets of death. Overall looks better than both Civ IV and V's systems.
>>337290123
>There's always a good chance for an unexpected newcomer, too.
Dark Horse: Newcomer that did not appear in the next game
Civ1 Dark Horse: Everyone returned for Civ2
Civ2 Dark Horse: Sioux
Civ3 Dark Horse: Hatti, Iroquois
Civ4 Dark Horse: Mali, >HRE, Khmer, Native America(Debatable),
Civ5 Dark Horse: Siam, Songhai, Denmark(Debatable), Polynesia, Ethiopia, Huns, Sweden, Assyria, Brazil, Indonesia, Morocco, Poland, Portugal, Shoshone, Venice
Civ5 can't really be judged the same way though.
I am wary after beyond earth, but it looks good.
>>337291193
The civs are far too different for proper balance to exist, though. Civ IV only had unique units and buildings, with the traits and starting techs not necessarily being unique. Though I mentioned that mods should not factor in to the game's quality, the most glaring balance issues are simple to fix with small number edits.
>>337291297
Most of the places lasted under Greek rule for hundreds of hundreds of years. Wouldn't blame him for dying young
>>337291183
Looks to be because of the waves. Makes it seem like they literally dyed the ocean their civ's color just to demarcate their borders.
Why exactly did they replace Stalin with Catherine? It's not like he was the only leader that has done morally questionable things.
What Civ 6 should've been
>civ 5's aesthetics and graphics but improved
>civ 5's combat
>civ 4's diplomacy
>no shitty SJW civ leader choices like Maria of Portugal or Wu Zetian
>rework the shitty warmongering penalty (reduce it by 80%)
>rebalance some of the civs (buff France, Rome, etc)
>remove global happiness. Bring back civ 4's happiness
basically, mix the best aspects of civ 4 and 5.
I'll just wait til there is a complete edition of Civ 6 later on the years so I don't get burned by buying the vanilla game only.
Also am I the only one who loved Civ 3? That game needs some love too.
>>337291597
Because Catherine makes for a good token female. Expect her to be back along with Elizabeth and Boudicca.
>>337291397
It's already done. It's called The British Empire.

>>337291597
stalin was a shit leader
mind you so was catherine
gotta fill that female quota somehow
(peter the great would be the best choice I believe)
>>337291560
That's not a problem, though. Variety is the spice of life. It's why I have over twice as many hours in Civ V as IV. I even modded in Civ IV unique traits to make it even more varied.
>>337291429
you mean stacks were easy to deal with if you built siege weapons and shredded most, to all of a stack down to nothing before counter stacking it
>>337291737
But it doesn't make for very fun or interesting competitive games.
>>337291597
Besides any questionable qualities, Catherine is one of the more notable female candidates. That's really about it.

They realized they couldn't salvage BE. Shame too because a lot of the concepts were nice and the future had endless potential in terms of building/wonder/unit design.

Gonna stick with II and III because even after all these years, they are still best.
>>337291838
>>337291724
catherine the great was russia's second-greatest tzar after peter. what peter did for industry and technology, she did for art and culture. russia would barely even have a culture if it was not for her. she was also a saucy wench
>>337291981
you seem mad
>>337292114
That was the point. I couldn't think of anything else to do.
>>337292016
BE was a side project being made while the main team led by Ed Beach worked on VI. It was obvious from the beginning it was a low risk venture hoping to raise some extra cash and gauge the market for spin-offs.
>>337291858
That was the English, and that was our shitty 12-year-old building that was pretty small compared to what we have nowadays.
Even then, ol' Andrew Jackson whooped the Brits are New Orleans. It was like the Tribes Assend match between /v/ and R*ddit. A rag tag bunch of furries (natives), gommies (pirates), and nigras (black folk) took out a well regulated and trained militia headed by a general that practiced with his men for months, all headed by Andrew Jackson.
>>337292035
I've played in multiple Pitboss games that have lasted months, even a year. People who actually like strategy games don't get bored because it's not over in 20 minutes. There's no real point to playing single player once you've figured the game out, because the AI is notoriously shit.
>>337291724
>>337291623
I don't know what this obsession is with having only male leaders. I wish there was an option to give all my rival civs female leaders.
Enjoy your cockfest, homofags.
Sweet.
What are the Barbarians like? Can they capture cities? Do they fight you the entire game? Are they actually smart?
>>337291508
>sioux, iroquois, native americans, etc
personally, I'd say having at least one native american tribe is a staple of civ, at least starting from part 2.
The shoshone were a weird fucking choice though considering that there are so many more relevant tribes to choose from.
civ 4 vanilla: mali was the token newcomer.
civ 5 vanilla: Siam was the token newcomer.
I have a feeling Mali will come back, because Mansa Musa is pretty iconic. But I'm like 100% sure that Siam won't come back- the Khmer will probably make a comeback.

>>337292574
Civ VI will mark the first time that the geography of your nation influences every aspect of the game, however, from city specialisations to military tactics and research.
Your starting terrain has always been a heavy factor on what your early to mid game plans are going to be. For example, you're probably going to hold off on Masonry until you need it to get other techs if you don't have marble or stone nearby.
>>337292712
NUKE IT. NUKE
>>337292712
in my many games of Civ I've never, ever had a game look like this.
Maybe invading another continent but never on that scale, seems stupid
>>337292550
what they need is multiple leaders. And if you don't have enough history for 2 leaders you shouldn't be in
Appears like they're taking the Endless Legend direction where your city territory expands and you can build additions attached to the city within its range that take up a tile. What is concerning is that this was maintained in EL by having only one city per region, so I'm not sure how tile sharing will work for this in C6. Plus I would like to know just how big a capital could expand now.
>>337292712
"Carpets of doom" are completely unnecessary. You don't need them to win wars easily. In fact, it's easier to just keep a good amount of units around permanently and heal them up rather than spam fodder.
>>337292831
so what? civ VI will have the same problem.
enjoy the tedious micro of a large army until it crashes
should I get it on release or should I wait for expansions to fix it first?
>>337292712
>carpets

sounds like a shitty player who cant micro and be efficient... civ v is goat because if you are actually efficient with your micro you never need to carpet or stack. fucking macro-only fag should kill yourself
>>337292803
It's not that it looks "immature" so much as it looks really dull and personally even a bit hard on the eyes. Too bright and flat.
>>337292564
Realistically, no Civ has ever had an immortal God-Emperor that ruled for millennia either.
At the end of the day, these "leaders" are just spiritual avatars for the player to interact with hiveminded civilizations.
>>337290160
they had terrain restrictions before too, colossus needed ocean etc
>>337292712
nobody really does carpets of doom because they're difficult to organize and economically pointless. military in general is a faff in civ v
civ 6 will apparently attempt to balance this better, by allowing you to make formations and move large groups of units at once. that way you can still have 1upt bujt at the same time you can command larger armies. i think it's a good idea.
i hate when people bitch and moan that war isn't the easiest victory type in civ v. guess what faggots it's not the easiest victory type in real life either
>>337292938
>spotted the shitter

>>337292802
If they make Cleopatra black again, Day 1 Pirate
One thing I did hate about Civ 5 was the universal happiness. Your plans for expansion halted when your happiness was in the negative zone, meaning you are stuck with 4 cities for about 2000 in-game years. When I think of civilization, I don't think of one with 4 fucking cities.

hey, whatever they do to make the game not chug on turn 500 gets me hard in the crotch... dont give a single shit about graphics, thing that keeps turning me off from epic length games is that by the mid point turns take upwards of a few minutes to compute before you can even start planning your next turn.

Well, the Shoshone weren't actually Firaxis's first pick, but they couldn't get the Pueblo because of the whole "leaders speaking the language" bit - the living Pueblo view it as sacred, and were against its inclusion in a video game. Firaxis respected that, but they still wanted a native faction that wasn't seen as historically aggressive. Enter the Shoshone.
>>337293552
The community is made up of retards that haven't played a proper strategy game in their life. Civ5 is objectively the worst Civ to date.
>>337293460
Still, the universal happiness was stupid, I see why they did it but it shouldn't influence whether you can expand or not without being punished.
This is why I fucking love civ 3, in a regular game, depending on the map size, you had at least 12 cities.
It kind of looks like wonders are going to take up a tile which could be good.

I think it is an okay mechanic, but I'd like local happiness, one city can get unhappy and become inefficient or even non functional and maybe a corruption of bureacracy system tied to having more cities than you can handle.
Corruption system in civ2 didn't work since it was local so it still meant that expanding was always the right decision.

Civ6 is 200% SIT BACK AND WAIT.
Firaxis has seemingly lost all talent or sense with Civ series, and rely entirely on the name recognition these days. Civ5 had unfortunate design decisions, then Firaxis charged full price for a Civ5 reskin Beyond Earth which should've been a $20-$30 xpac for Civ5 considering it was the same fucking game, except dumbed back down back to Vanilla Civ5 level (or maybe even less).
Amplitude with their Endless games, Stardock with their games, now even Paradox is getting into the 4x market out of their GSG niche--Firaxis can't half-ass it anymore yet I have a bad feeling Civ6 is going to be quarter-assed.

come on, Alexander and Caesar didn't look like that either
>>337297313
Well, see and that's where I would like to see an entirely different game play mechanic. A civilisation starts united, be it Rome, Egypt, Nubia, or Whatever. As you develop technologically and socially through the ages, the civilisation fractures and you end up carving your part out along with the other fragments of the original civilisation. Like you divide the civ you've built and run a fragment of it.
Canada, Britain, Murka, or so many others in the days of Ancient Egypt is retardation.
They need to increase the wonder failing gold by ~5x, 146 gold is nothing for being 1 turn away from the pyramids and shit

Having the Aztecs and India in the days of Ancient Rome or Egypt is equal retardation. It's pretty much impossible to have every civ from the same era without drastically cutting down on the number of playable civs.

that's exactly what the Rhyes and Fall of civilizations mod does in CIV 4 look it up. pretty interesting to see new nations popping up here and there and old ones collapsing
>cities are going to take up entire regions now

>>337298267
It's too railroaded, the Revolutions mod does it more naturally
>>337298308
I would honestly be fine with them making the worlds fuckhueg and increasing the base movement from 2 to 3
>>337298092
of what, making some women leaders? there's a fuckton of bad leader choices in the series just by pure influence, but they're not chosen for that
it's a game and they want a diverse cast of personalities and nationalities, so you get Maria I (the Mad) instead of II because it's more fun
it's not SJW pandering or whatever, it's just for variety's sake

is Beyond Earth worth checking before this?

>>337298141
I was thinking regionally, say the Goths, the Celts, Egyptians, Greco Romans, Chinese, etc.
Ancient civs that allow you to build your way to the Civ you want.
Hell, they don't even have to be real civs. It's always been one of my beefs that from 5000BC to 2000AD the world doesn't change much in any Civ game. It needs way more turmoil and general vicissitude.
Eras should cause splits, internal strife should matter in your civ, all this is, it taking your Football team to the World Cup, it could be way better.

Being able to modify the terrain would be great.
Varied elevations and such.
Would be so cool if you could have ravine inland, and then be able to connect those with the oceans once you have explosions and make a panama canal.
We won't get that though.
I know.
>>337298889
I liked it cause I'm a sucker for sci-fi setting. But there absolutely no depth to the game. Could ''only'' play it for 100 hours before I got bored, where as civ V I never got bored with 500 hours

I guess it's kind of Firaxis' fault. If they never released the Civ Revolutions titles and made Civ 5 go for some pseudo-realistic topographical scheme, Civ 6 would actually look more like a natural sequel to Civ 4.
>>337298889
If the setting was your only issue with Endless Legend, try Endless Space.

>>337297714
That had a component sort of like that in IV where if it was late game and you had a lot of land on other continents it would ask if you wanted to give up that land to save money or something. If you accepted that became some random civ run by an ai that hadn't been used in the game yet.

all 100% fair except for China IMO
China has waaaaay too many choices. Wu Zetian is actually pretty legit, like it's clear it was chosen for diversity quota but she is definitely in top 10 most important chinese leaders (if you could even measure such a thing).
Honestly, only Dido and Theodora are complete shit options honestly. Wouldn't be so bad if it was in Civ IV with the multiple leaders, but yeah.
Honestly, I think there is an incentive for diversity as long as it was limited. If I was stuck between Catherine and Peter and someone chimed in "Well, we need more women leaders" then I would take that as a plus. Catherine is legit.
>>337299951

I enjoyed it post expansion - I'm going to give it a try now with expansions - it's a fun game. It's not as complex as civ 5 but WAAAY more entertaining - with civ 5 I was stuck because of complexity and trying hard to advance, with beyond earth I was stuck for the narrative and the amount of fun.

>so you want the series to die with Beyond Earth?I want me to die.
But more than anything I don't like how they're recycling the same name into different games. Sure, the differences between sequels may vary (from the differences between Civs to the differences between retro Fallouts & Fallouts 3+), but really, in the end it's for brand recognition.
Why not make a whole new concept for a 4x game? Off the top of my head:
>Civ series is about rewriting history
>make a new game where the gameplay is LITERALLY rewriting history
>game starts off like civ but advances to future tech really fast
>among techs is chronomanipulation
>gain ability to go to the past to re-attempt certain periods for better/worse outcomes
>gain ability to outright send futuretech units to steamroll shit in the past
>your fucking shit up in the past has adverse effects on your people
>they either worship units you send as gods, all but abandoning research, or freak the fuck out at this wizardry, sparking rebellions
>meanwhile terminators are coming from the future beyond yours to fuck your shit up
>have to take steps to prevent skynet
>players duking it out on multiple timelines of the same map
There are obviously a lot of details to iron out but hell I'm not a ~180-man developer studio that is part of a billion-dollar industry. Get fucking creative!

If there's one thing I want changed in civ 6 it's how religions are founded. I just tried to start up a new game and just rage quit when 3 pantheons had been founded within 20 turns of the game starting. That, and I'd really like an option to make the earth style map have a historically accurate start point for civs.
I've always though that one of Japan's abilities should have been "Can always found a pantheon" and "always benefits from pantheon regardless of dominant religion"
They better make the AI not fucking flat out cheat in this one
