And who says you need to be buying mega expensive GPUs. Lots of these games need better processor power than a console can put out. You just need a decent medium/high end GPU and that's it. People who go out and buy Titans and shit are retards, unless they do some kind of 3D editing work or just have money to burn

I have a pretty damn good laptop and it can barely handle Diablo 3 on the lowest settings at an average 30-40 fps. Diablo 3 is like 5 years old now.

XCOM 2 is an interesting case. I think the decision to make the game PC-only was caused by the map generation for the most part. You can scale down the graphics to achieve (barely) playable framerate on consoles, but there's not much you can do to work around the CPU usage required to maintain procedurally generated destructible environment

In the real world the ps4's 7870m gpu runs just like a 7870m gpu, sometimes even worse than it.
The issue are poorly optimized games for pc, but everytime the port is not shit a pc runs the game better with lower specs than the ps4 (see witcher, battlefield, gtav, etc)
What's the last PC exclusive game release that didn't require a better-than-average PC to run?
Crysis doesn't even count since it was ported to consoles 5 years ago.

To be fair, the main use case of new GPUs is high resolution and/or high refresh rate displays including VR. There's not much reason to upgrade if you plan to play at 1080p 60fps.

I dont know why people still go on about crysis though, sure it looks good and looked good for it's time but it required at crazy beefy PC to run good. Any dev could target a high end build and go all out if they had the budget and will to do so, the one thing crytek really had going for them was they coded a very good engine though.
Now when you have games run off $300 hardware that is essentially run at 'high' settings on PC, that's just talent, its immediately recognizable. In my opinion, a good looking console game will always be more impressive than a good looking PC games because one is working within the limitations and can't just tap into extra horse power to mitigate poorly optimized code

theres no more directional cover. the world is static and flat essentially. Cover is now in capturable zones of rings that the units don't have special animations for . They just get a cover bonus. also: i believe civ 6 went for a simpler look because it's way easier to read. a lot of people played civ v solely in the strategic view, because there was so much shit cluttering up the screen it was hard to make out what was going on, especially when you had a big military or were fighting a big war. knowing firaxis it will probably be a huge performance hog
