>literally countless numbers of cycles have gone by
>this mother fucker still trying an failing to bring about the age of dark
>>
>>337259882
I'm telling you the serpents are playing us all, he didn't 'fail' because he's playing the long game. Kaathe and Frampt are in cahoots and no matter what you choose to do nothing will get better until we eradicate these snakes.
>>
>>337260312

oi hraaaoogghh don't be a bad chosen and remember the 6 million souls. Now link the fire.
>>
Only Conan can save us from Thulsas Cult of Set
>>
>>337260312
Ds3 throws that idea out the window tho. The fire has been linked thousands of times, kaathe hasn't manged to convince a single undead to break the cycle. He and his dickwraiths have been cucked hard by frampt
>>
>>337261639

Yes, yes! Good chosen! Don't visit the Unattended Graves. There's nothing there. Heh Heh Heh
>>
>>337261639
>thousands of times
Was it ever mentioned how many times this crap has happened?
Really the problem is that even if a lord walks away from the flame some other gullible framptfag can come along and link it.

That's my point.

frampt constantly btfo's him no matter what happens
>>
>>337263057

Except when it doesn't work right?
>>
>>337261639
We don't know that. We have no idea if no one has not linked the fire. We don't have anything saying it has never faded before.
>>
>>337263057
I just don't trust Frampt at all, there are too many details left out when he talks to us in DaS. That, along with the dark lord ending where they both bow to you, is why I think they're allied and playing some other game than what it seems.

If they're not allied then Frampt is just a pussy who switches sides the moment he thinks he's been defeated.
>>
>>337263485
>>337263628

Speaking of the ending has anyone forgotten that there's more than 2 of them bowing to the dark lord ending?

Just how long have the cycles been happening?

Keep in mind that the geography of the region has changed drastically. Mountains have eroded a way and new ones have sprung up, old cities are dust and new ones in their place.

Has this shit been going on for millions of years?
>>
>>337265996

From DaS:

>The serpent is an imperfect dragon and symbol of the Undead. Its habit of devouring prey even larger than itself has led to an association with gluttony.

>>
>>337266216
I wouldn't say the lands your on are more from millions of years of wear down. I get more the impression that each area is part of a time lapse. Different areas from different areas. I forget which NPC says it but basically because of the flames near dying having been relit so many times it's making everything crazier then it usually is.
>>
>>337266282
society completely fucking breaks down every time the fire fades. it's a wonder that even basic metallurgy survives. Every time someone links the flame people have to just pick up the pieces, and all the knowledge of spells and weird mechanical contraptions and stuff is just lost ancient secrets that people have to find.
>>

>>
>>337268335

Londor is a likely DLC location, which means Kaathe. Not to mention Frampt's connection to Lothric which is hinted at but unresolved, in the same way Dusk hinted at Oolacile.
>>
>>337268335
We don't know. Many people want more on the serpents though, since they seem to be at the center of the entire story of Dark Souls.
>>

Because the "gods" are fucking weak
Gwyn couldn't even handle a few dragon asses before bitching out of Izalith when a literal who human sealed it in it's bedroom
>>
>>337259882
What actually is their goal?
>prolong the age of fire, entering another cycle
>cause an age of dark which will eventually disappear thanks to a new fire
Are they just maintaining some weird status quo? Is lord of hollows ending the only "good" ending?
>>
>>337267461
His lower half is obviously Nito, so probably he just hate the corpose you killed in DS1
>>
>>337267461
Dark Souls "Gods" arent half as powerful as one can imagine by their status.
I dont know about Nito, but its confirmed that Gwyndolim was already sick and weak, and to top it Sullyvahn himself beat him up so Aldrich could eat him.
>>
>>337268638
It wouldn't surprise me if the whole cycle is some cruel joke on their part. I bet they were the ones who even told Gwyn and co to go after the dragons, and to take the flame.

>>
The age of dark is not eternal though, maybe some guy decided to break the cycle but then another dude killed him and linked the fire again.
The lords of cinder are neglecting their duty too, they said "fuck it,i won't link the fire again..i'm going home"

Honestly it must suck to have an undead warrior come for you. You know that even if you win it'll just respawn nearby and try again, with slightly better tactics/equipment until you are killed.
Your only hope is to beat it so many times it loses hope and hollows or decides it doesn't want to try anymore.

Imagine that the First Flame is like a fire in a chimney. Undead Bone Shards in DaS3 / I forgot what in DaS2 / Humanity in DaS1 are little sticks you throw into the fire, they don't make a great difference in it. Lord of Cinders on the other hands, are like big-ass logs that can sustain the fire for a few more hours.

In both previous Souls game your journey was to upgrade yourself from a stick to a log in order to sustain the fire for a decent amount of time.

In DaS3 however, the fire is again fading, and there's no more logs in the house, so your mom send you outside when it's cold enough to make your balls drop, and ask you to rummage through the trash, see if you can find some half-buried piece of old log that can still burns. And since one won't do, you have to bring a few more pieces and then step in the fireplace and burn yourself alive with them too.

I have no idea if that analogy works because I don't have a chimney but heh

goddammit it's all about the never ending cycle of fire fading and then darkness prevailing, for a time, before the embers are rekindled, reigniting ages of fire for a time only for it to fall someday by a champion of dark.

the untended graves are a peak into what the world WAS like, the Champion Gundyr there never met his fire keeper, and couldn't rise up to link the fire, so instead he stuck around in the dark waiting for a day where new champions would arise to link the fire as a scabbard. of course, by the time we awaken others have linked the fire, like Ludleth, who's covered the Firelink Shrine in illusions.

Bruh no, they are meant to tempt you to do bad shit. They have their dickwraith agents do that for them. Their heavily inspired by the serpent in the bible. That area alludes to them and their influence.

Frampt and Kaathe have the same goal. The cycle is part of their master plan. Their absent in DS2 because the cycle is in full swing. They have won.

And I don't think it was, honestly there were dragons all over The first area in demon souls.

Undead Burg heavily alludes to 1-1 world of Demon souls. They probably just wanted to kill the play in a cool way on a big bridge (because cool) and throw in a dragon based obstacle.

That's what Yuria tells you. Yuria is carrying out the will of Kaathe, so whatever she has you do is what he wants to happen.

He's lying by omission. He's not wrong when he says you're Gwyn's successor, what he's not telling you is all that means if that you get turned into fuel to keep the barbecue party going.

And the Chosen Undead is a myth he fabricated. Any undead who's strong enough to ring the bells, get through Sen's Fortress, obtain the Lordvessel and vanquish the other lords is the "chosen undead". It's just creating a false legend to lure undead into becoming fuel.

And Gwyndolin might've been in on this.
>>
How long are the serpents even supposed to be
>>
>>337277991
They appear to serve the dark in truth. An imperfect serpent being the symbol for humanity. And they traverse the abyss like it's their natural habitat.

I'm going to guess that similar to the pygmy, they remain furtive. Which allows them to continue manipulating events without suffering the wrath of Gwyn. Afterall, even Artorias fell to the abyss, what could Gwyn do to fight off a creature in the depths of the abyss?

I don't really have anything to back this up. But I think they're dragons corrupted by and adapted to humanity. Just like other dragons took on elemental properties. Fire dragons, poison dragons, rotted death dragons, electricity dragons, etc. These are likely dark dragons. Hence their humanoid faces.

Dear god, well Ds2 statue aside we only know of two who have been manipulating shit for sure.

The rest I don't know. It's possible they manipulated the rats in Ds2 because rats and dogs also hollow. So there might be something behind that. Like bear with me. How the fuck does a rat assemble authority and create an underground kingdom, how did Gwyn attain power, a deal with serpents perhaps?

Also What if the curse has a biological element to how it's spread. How else could dogs and rats get it? Or my second conjecture what if the pygmies weren't the only beings who dwelt in the dark? what of other animals?

My tin hat theory is they might use Rats and Dogs as another way to get "humanity" or further their goals.

Again this is based off the Rat King and I haven't played Das 2 in years. Are there any solid serpent connections between the rats and P Serpents?

Anyone ever considered that all the serpents are doing is literally just fucking around with undead, like these guys are immortal, they got nothing to gain from doing anything they do except for keks, like it's a bet between them to see if they can get the 'chosen' one to link the flame or not. Oh man souls metaphysics. There is so much disparity. You've gotta remember that the lords set it up/got flames that kept in order.

"Normal" for humans in the souls world is "hollowed". Life sits well with death, we live a finite time and die. We go sleep forever. Like Nito and the witches aren't opposed, they are sitting in a order, they made a system to keep the world going. Gwyn sets up a feudal world and the systems of life and death to boot.
