I had one of these for a while. Played a shit ton of Tony Hawk on that thing as a kid. Pretty comfy.
>>
>>337256101
I liked the N-gage it had a ton of good games and impressive cellphone and handheld hardware for that year. It also had online gaming on the go. I can name at least a dozen of good games. Thats more I could say from the xbox one, the ps4 or the wii u.

The N-gage is bad is literally a TBBT tier meme by people who really didnt have one or used one. But Its bad because pop culture present it as bad!

On the same note, Spider-man 3 while being the worst of the original trilogy still shits on 80% of modern capeshit. So was it that bad in retrospective? Or is it just le bad movie meme from pop culture? Was it really worse than IM2, IM3, Thor 1, Thor 2, both Avengers, TDKR, BvS and Tranktastic 4? Was it?

The answer is memes.

I had an N-gage

Best phone I ever owned. Hacked the shit out of it, people always wanted to know what it was and met a few great people because they showed interest and started talking.

>sony releases the vita anyway
>lo and behold the vita is a failure just like the N-gage was
>>
>>337256250
At the time, it was a failure but mainly due to its design. I had an Ngage in high school and while everyone in my class thought it was the tightest shit ever, I was the only one who had it while everyone else had some Nextel walkie cellphones. Couple of years later, the Ngage QD comes out and I see a few people having them, but this was right around the time Apple was coming with the first iPhone.

I ended up boxing my Ngage in 2006 due to a failing battery and got a regular flip phone , I still have it in the basement.

No high school student should've be walking around with these damn things, but they were. They were at the height of popularity in 2006 and only because dumbasses abused the CHIRPS and using grainy music ringtones from the phone's very loud front speakers.

You could install backups of all your games in the mmc card anyways so there was no need to remove the battery.

I'm amazed there are such things as N-gage apologists.

It was a bad, overpriced product that sold poorly and was critically panned. It's not secretly good and no one gave it a chance, like you're suggesting, it was a piece of shit. You don't have to own one to know it was a fucking joke.

It wasnt overpriced considering it was some of the first actual smartphones that had real multitasking and internet connectivity.

It also shitted in terms of technology on both the gba and any other phone of that time.

The library while small it was full of quality titles.

Really, what you know about it was just the memes.

I remember buying that off my friend's little brother for $20, best emulator device I had until I got a GPD XD (fuck yourself if it triggers you)

Yet the idea didn't fail.

>>337257042
I'm well aware of the N-Gage being a commercial failure, but it did correctly predict the future, so its commercial failure was just a stepping stone to future success.
>>
>>337258668
>t wasnt overpriced considering it was some of the first actual smartphones that had real multitasking and internet connectivity.

The market wasn't there and they didn't have the marketing team to make it an essential item. The N-gage could have started the smart phone boom early but they didn't have the design in place for mass appeal.

Part of the reason the N-gage failed so hard and became a big joke was how directionless it was in it's demographic, most users were children with rich parents and teens with disposable income showing off an expensive toy.

> Shit

Its the largest gaining sector for Apple, Amazon and Microsoft bruh. AWS in particular is printing money for Amazon.
>>
>>337259559
As far as I understand from reading leddit comments (so basically dick) their stupid model of releasing a new game every year and making all the old models incompatible is what really did it in with the market.
>>
>>337261416
>AWS in particular is printing money for Amazon.
Doesn't Amazon still break even every quarter though?
>>
>>337261416
Yeah dude but it didn't revolutionize gaming or consumer entertainment in ANY way. As far as I know all those profits are backend shit for companies that the average consumer couldn't care less about. But correct me if I'm wrong because I don't know shit dude.
>>
>>337258241
Gameloft games were so ass but that was all their was for the gamer who yearned for more than bejeweled tier games. I still remember playing modern combat 2 on my phone and being simultatenously amazed that it was basically a glorified point and tap game but at the same time had a full fledged multiplayer fps to point and tap. Is there anything better these days, haven't played phone shit in years.
>>
>>337261613

Amazon has a business model of putting profit they make into R&D and new products, there are a number of articles about it online if you care to read.

Wall Street accepts it because the day Amazon turns of the R&D money they become gigantically profitable (like never before seen profitable, they are approaching growth that would see them have a $1000 per share price and a valuation of a trillion dollars).

Its actually really interesting, a lot of economists have created models where the US government follows this practise of loading debt and increasing public spending to simulate growth and their models show really strong growth. Its why trump was ridiculed for saying he would like to reduce the deficit by enforcing discounts (from government institutions, the fucking idiot)
>>
>>337261706
Ohhhh I thought you were talking in a more general term as in Cloud as a whole, not for gaming. In your example you are partly correct, the exception being Microsoft and Apple who use the cloud for gaming and its pretty profitable (Apple use iCloud for mobile game saves, and MS offers a suite of cloud services through Azure that is making quite a lot of money)
>>
>>337262158
>>337262312

Some examples:

Microsofts cloud service makes up 1/3rd or their revenue: http://www.businesscloudnews.com/2016/01/29/cloud-now-makes-up-one-third-of-microsoft-revenues-as-azure-soars/

AWS growth up 69% last year: http://venturebeat.com/2016/01/28/amazon-web-services-brings-in-2-4b-in-revenue-in-q4-2015-up-69-over-last-year/

40% of Apples revenue last year came from recurring revenue (Think iCloud, iTunes Match, Apple Music etc) : https://www.ariasystems.com/blog/apples-icloud-highlights-success-of-recurring-revenue-model/
