Gen 4 Infernape learns Close Combat at lv41, so you might get that just before stepping into the Pokemon League, and Flare Blitz at lv57 is strictly postgame stuff. Until then you're stuck with Flame Wheel and Mach Punch (or Brick Break from a TM). I think I tutored Thunderpunch to it for coverage and also made it my Strength slave since it wasn't learning anything better. I can't remember if I also replaced Flame Wheel with anything like Blaze Kick since that's apparently a tutor move as well.

The Johto trio are a blatant rehash of the birds sans their flying type. Suicune is so blatantly visually designed to be Ice type even GameFreak forgets that they made it water, and Lugia, a Pokemon that lives underwater and whose powers have everything to do with the sea, is Psychic type simply because Mewtwo was. Much of Johto was a shallow apeing of Kanto, but it's particularly obvious in the Legendary Pokemon. Only Ho-oh and Celebi are acceptable, and in Ho-oh's case that's almost certainly because it's a cut gen 1 Pokemon.
