Trade is broken right now from what I've heard. The penalty for being another species never goes away so they never trust you no matter what you do, unless you're literally tonguing their balls with what you offer them.
I've even heard empires straight up refuse to take gifts to improve relations. Definitely needs some tweaking and optimising...currently only the fanatical purgers go to war regularly, the rest just constantly check if there are anyone they could win against, find that all the AI tech at the same speed and are thus always equal strength, and then not do anything.

I haven't encountered any overly friednly diplomatic exhanges but I've made plenty of neutral ones so far. In fact I regularly run a deficit of energy while sitting at my mineral cap and multiple ai factions will regularly offer 1:1 trades which I thought was pretty neat.
