>>
>>337199780
Why is it a blunder? I played 20 minutes of it and I had fun. I didn't really get what I was doing though.

Plus it sold over 200,000 copies in 24 hours, its hardly a blunder, people all over the web are calling it a massive success.
>>
>>337199780

Speak for yourself OP. Im 12 hours into a hard mode game and having a blast.

ADD autists cant stand the mid game where you are politicking and building up your empire. Same people who quit Civ 5 after they finished exploring the map and then got butt fucked by napoleon.

Put your science ships on Passive(not on evasive). Just avoid surveying in systems where you see red ships. Fly and scan the rest.

Influence points are sleeper issues later on. Covet them like a jew covets shekels.

Try and get your planets upgraded to planetary capitals before passing them to sectors. This is critically important because you cannot upgrade tiles past certain points without having a capital city on the planet. And that costs influence points.

Dont be afraid to expand randomly. Get civilian access through alien space and keep colonizing.

Designate a couple space ports as your "fleet bases". Upgrade them with engineering bays and crew quarters and keep your fleet parked in their orbit to save energy.

Designate other stations your shipyards and put your production lines and bonus granting items on those.

Torpedoes are OP as all fuck.

The game is meant to take awhile to play out, so it is not a traditional move in and occupy, grow bigger strong and roll further on. Like the blob. You wont be to able to wipe out gour bigger enemies in a single war, which could allow tbem to recover and retalliate.

Works both ways though. Other players or the AI wont be able to wipe you out in a single war either.

Safe transfer has a lot to do with character development, minor and major missions. While there is little impact for conclusion of story.

Don't be an autist and just get 2 and 3rd game, it's story based trilogy ffs. They both have better gameplay. 1st has best story, 2nd best companions, 3rd best gameplay. It's a meme to hate 3rd for its ending, but it is alright now after number of expansions

Greetings Gentlemen and NEETs

Just getting into Stellaris, some early game questions:

How many 'Advanced AI' should I include? (I assume this means the AI will cheat more so than normal?)

What should I do with my initial starting capital planet? Should I just use all pops to make minerals+energy or how much food do they need?

What technology should I prioritise?
>>
>>337206137

But ours only costs 30 dollars.

Or is there?
>>
>>337199780
>what hope is there for space games?

No hope, because none of them are hard science-fiction. Everything is designed primarily to look cool than to make sense.
>>
>>337200712
Its their most popular game ever.

That being said the game has an early exploration phase, a mid game diplomatic phase, and an end game galactic catasrophie phase.

The mid game is lacking. The other 2 are very good.
>>
>>337206317
Advanced AI are meant to represent AI that are ahead of you
>implying by the time your civilization reaches spacehood there arnt already other civilizations there
Its not cheating so much as they just start with a bit more tech and more resources, maybe an extra planet.

Food is only used for growth, once you have max pop on a planet there is no use for food. Its up to you how you do it, but i would recommend you focus on food and power first, using what minerals you get to set up mining stations around your space. Once you max pop a planet convert it to focus on minerals/power.

Of course you dont have to do that if you dont want, focusing on power/minerals early on can help you get an edge by letting you afford colonies to expand.

The great joy is figuring out what you want and seeing if it works.
>>
>>337202830
I rather say Killzone plot but it's pretty similar as well.
>>
My impression is that its the kind of game thats fun when youre exploring but once youve explored everything it turns into a grindy civ clone. Am I wrong?
>>
>>337207027
No doubt its grindy past the exploration stage

But there is still a shitton more to be doing in stellaris than in civ
>>
>>337206137
Having a shorter attention span than a methhead is not an indicator of good taste.
>>
>>337207027
There are 600 stars on a medium galaxy, each if that shit takes several minutes to scan assuming there are no mother duckers sitting on those stars. If you finish exploring, then you've won long ago.
>>
100k copies in days is not bad for a grand strat space game. it already outsold battleborn on steam.

>>
>>337207262

>>
So, since Stellaris won't be great until they shit out a bunch of DLC, what's a good 4x I could play, that lets me win however I want, be the especific kind of empire that I want and has decent AI?

DW:U is great, but I'm already bored of it and the AI is lacking. Inb4 Aurora.
>>
>>337207847
Given GalCiv3 a go yet? I played during the beta and it was alright for a while. Takes too long to try and conquer the largest map. Turns take fucking forever.
>>
>>337207916
To be fair, I tried Gal Civ2 and it just didnt click for me. I do own a few 4x games I never touched, on Steam, even though I can't remember which.

I tried to make a fanatic spiritualist empire in Stellaris, hoping they'd be the Holy Fucking Inquisition and they just ended up as carebears.
>>
So what is the point of sectors?
>>
>>337208138
You don't need to manage them.
>>
>>337208138
You can only directly control 5 (more if you have the right tech or government) planets by yourself. Everything else falls into sectors which are governed by a governor.

But you still get a lot of control over what they do, just not as much as in your own planets.
>>
>>337208315
>>337208397
I have a 7 planet civ, and have nowhere to expand past my seven, so I still haven't messed with them, but why am I forced to sector them off? I like the micromanagement part of the game, but it feels like I'm basically forced to turn some of my shit into a vassal. How much control do I still have over them?

I'm getting close to assimilating my first vassal, and I'm worried that I'm going to have to sector off a lot of stuff.
>>
>>337208706
>but why am I forced to sector them off?
I suspect so you lose some control of your empire, since you've expanded to the point where you cant control everything effectively yourself, so you have to delegate.

Bit of a passover from CK2.

You still get to dictate what they focus on, how much taxes they pay, how many resources you give them to develop.

ME2 is good, pirate it with dlc because they actually enhance the story but are stupidly expensive.
ME3 other than ending is decent, pirate it with dlc too. JohnP's alternate MEHEM (version b) is a decent mod that removes the stupid from the ending so it is liveable. Also recommend the shorter dream and particularily the extended galaxy mod for me3.

1 and 2 rocked. 3 only gets a bad rep because it was sold as "your decision really matter this time" and at the end you literally get three options (bad, good neutral) no matter your paragon/renegade level. 3's story and gameplay were average but fun.

2 is fun overall but very casualized. By no means a bad game, it has some cool characters and neat gameplay

3 has a fucktarded story but very fun gameplay and great variety on weapons and such especially with all the DLCs

I can't recommend buying them though because the DLC is still full price so you'd end up paying 3x the games' price just for them.

This is my first 4x/Grand Stra, what ever it is, after wanting to play Grand Strategy for ever. I'm absolutely in love with it, but I don't really have a frame of reference for it. It's like a visual novel with good gameplay and open ended choose your own story.

I was curious as to if I would like Eve Online if I like this game. I know nothing about Eve.
>>
>>337200824
I played it for 6 hours straight on multiplayer without a crash and with only two desyncs (which was the result of the other person trying to research one particular thing which I had no trouble with). When compared to an hour of EUIV or CKII where there are desyncs every 10-15 minutes I think that is a great improvement. It's what I expected and a little more, also the game may seem barebones compared to its predecessors becuase it is more like a text based game with some graphics to provide visual detail which I can see as not appealing to a wide range of people but nonetheless the game is solid, it doesnt crash for no reason and it achieves what it set out to achieve.

No? They tend to lack compatibility but they have rollback for that, and its far more common for new features to be added with the update even without purchase.
>>
>>337213241
You check markets and travel a lot.
Skills are gained by real time-based training.

Unless you're in a fight you're basically just traveling. You "play" eve by letting it run and then you do something else, kind of a more advanced progress quest.

It can still be pretty fun, though

The original 1979 series if you're down for a 40-something episode show, or the movie trilogy that summarizes it. It's by far the most iconic part of the franchise, and it does the best job of portraying the characters as just cogs in a larger military machine. Every other show has the lead basically winning their respective conflicts on their own.

Afterwards?
>Zeta Gundam
Direct sequel to the first show. Polarizing and schizophrenic series, but it has some great animation.

>Gundam X
Surprisingly chill show on a post-apocalyptic Earth. Characters are great, and it has an adorable romance at its core, but the mechs are honestly pretty weak.

>G Gundam
If you like martial art shit/manly combat/over the top awesome stuff. It is stupid, but great because of it. Also, not really Gundam.

>Gundam 00
A newer show with a more realistic take on mobile suits. WARNING: second season is dramatically worse.

Also, check out most of the short OVA series, especially 0080: War in the Pocket, one of the few anime to make me actually tear up.

Yeah I can't find an answer. Not willing to risk it.
>>
>>337214970
from what i've seen, it suppresses tiles that applicable, so it's only food on landing, and minerals/food once upgraded.

You suppress it if it's tech points, just like if you'd placed a farm there

>he thinks this is a shit launch

t. someone who played neither Vicky 2 nor HoI3 at release

this is a masterpiece by comparison because even though there isnt alot of depth, atleast it semi-works
>>
>>337214780
I think it's like 20 bucks on g2a. I'll buy that before I think about upgrading to horizon.

Doesn't CoD have like 200 million dollar budget though?
>>
>>337214960
mfw you'll have your own spaceship and live on Mars before Star Citizen is finished

IGN.

I said Fanatic Spiritualist, I also went for collectivism, for some reason...
>>
>>337215074
Just tried it out. Saved it before. It destroys whatever resource was there before and creates 2 food - I put it on an engineering tile, engineering is gone and now has two food. So it's best to put a colony on a blank tile obviously depending on the surrounding tile resources.

>>337215185
Never played the expansion, although I've heard there aren't really many features. Like the rest of the game desu. Twenty dollars seems like a fair price I think.
>>
>>337215317
idk but Star Citizen has $113 million already and barely has to spend any money on advertising. They'll probably raise a lot more too
>>
>>337215317

CoD also has the same assets and Quake 3 Engine to re-use over and over
The biggest cost is having two teams squirt out a campaign and some models/baked lighting within two years.
Well, the biggest cost after marketing anyway.

Nah, those are definitely Zulus, hard to miss the head and the chest.

Anyway, this game looks interesting, might check it out later.

I fucking hate designing my ships.
>>
>>337215730
except sots 2. stay the fuck away from sots 2
>>
>>337215969
In SOTS1 or in general?

>>337215990
Yeah, the second one is terrible. The first one is a true classic, though.

Just read it and there's not a single SJW moment in the entire thing. It actually made some really good points and dissuaded me from buying the game.
>>
>>337216073
In general and in sots. Love all other aspects of these types of games but designing ships is so fucking tedious and time consuming.
>>
>>337215729
It was a joke, autismo

Mechanics are alright but fuck not being able to field 10k ships vs 10k ships. That shit's retarded.

Which ones, and based on what? I've you've read the review you should know that he never played past mid-game. If that's not a huge red flag in terms of taking that review seriously then I don't know what it is.

Have you played AI War?

Research projects are picked out of a randomized deck of cards. Each time you complete one the other two get shuffled back into it. You also have a chance to get dealt rare tech or pick something unique up from salvage missions.

There's literally nothing in those bullet points that has anything to do with SJW shit, regardless of how much he shoves it in his tweets. That actually implies he's pretty professional, and doesn't let his personal politics influence his reviews. Are you retarded? Are you trying to support that anon's argument?
>>
>>337217939
>Are you retarded?

this is not ok anon
>>
>>337217854
It's fun as hell playing co-op with friends. You're missing out.
>>
>>337209928
Not sure if you're still here, but if you want to start watch the first series which is just called "Mobile Suit Gundam." Then I would recommend in no particular order
G Fighter
Victory
Zeta
Double Zeta
0080 War in the Pocket
Wing
Crossbone
F91
Turn A
00
Sadly I'm haven't seen much of the new stuff, so I can't personally recommend them, but if you want to go ahead and watch them. Oh and avoid everything that has SEED anywhere in it's title, that shit is beyond garbage.
>>
>>337219110
Thanks anon - that's helpful
>>
>>337215437
Once upgraded it also gives some minerals though.

The best thing is adjacency so put it in the middle of good resources tiles for maximum gains
