It's an allegory for ayy lmao sex
Did the player character's motivation ever get explained or was it all attributed to muh determination?
>>337160706
he came to yharnam to cure his sickness using blood . In return he has to stop the plague of beasts
>>337160706
I assumed you don't have a choice. You're stuck in a constant, unending loop of death because of the contract, unless you go out and find the source of the nightmare. Then you can escape it.
>>337159992
Bloodborne is a game about mercury poisoning.
The old blood is mercury.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minamata_disease
>>337161115
wow i didnt know about this. Thank you for this
You're dying of some rare disease of the blood.
You hear rumors that the city of Yarnham has doctors that do some crazy healing shit involving blood.
You go there because it's literally your last hope to survive.
When the guy gives you a blood transfusion, something from the Hunters Dream decides you look like you might make a good hunter, and traps you there.
>>337161115
Pretty sure that mercury doesnt turn people into werewolfs.
bump
>>337161772
Is it the Moon Presence or Gehrman determining who is a suitable Paleblood hunter?
>>337163626
if you think back to the intro cutscene, you remember a beast who is reaching out to you and then it burns to death. This represents you having enough willpower to resist your transformation into a beast. i think thats how they find people suitable enough to become a hunter
>>337163626
Gehrman, I'm pretty sure. He's stuck in the Hunter's Dream of his own choice specifically so the Moon Presence leaves everyone else the fuck alone. He became it's surrogate child.
>>337164092
Of his own choice, are you sure? What about him crying in his sleep begging Laurence or Willem to save him?
>>337164265
He took one for the team, so to speak. He's hosting the Dream so other hunters are able to survive the hunt and leave when morning comes. He pretty much tells you that explicitly when you fight him. "Let me set you free. You'll end up in the waking world." or whatever he says exactly.
How come my character became a slug?
Did eating those umbilical cords turn me into an ayy lmao?
>>337164908
that and absorbing the moon's blood
>>337164908
As far as I know, your character gains enough Insight to ascend and be reborn as a Great One. Similar to Rom, who was also originally (presumably) human.
>>337164908
Assuming the old ones can't directly interact with eachother, the umbilical cords enhanced your own blood with theirs, which stops the Moon Presence from controlling you, letting you fight it.
Killing it and taking its blood triggers your rebirth as a greater being.
could someone try to explain the plot to me? I fear i'm retarded because it's not getting cohesive in my head
>>337165202
>>337165084
>>337164993
Ah okay.
The whole story of the game confused me, cuz it makes no fucking sense.
Unless you know all the story, but even then I don't get how people can tell all it.

>>337164908
I think it basically made you ascend into a being so powerful your human body couldn't handle it anymore.
>>337160706
The note at the start of the game pretty much explain's the player character's reason for being in Yarnham in the Japanese version. For whatever reason they left out the fact that you wrote that note in the English version and it says "Seek Paleblood to transcend the hunt." rather than "end the hunt".
>>337165529
Old blood found by Byrgenwerth scholars in the chalice dungeons/Phtumerian ruins (it's probably the blood of the Great Ones), Healing Church founded on it because it has magical healing properties, oh shit it actually turns people into beasts what the fuck, the Hunts begin in order to cleanse Yharnam of beasts and a vicious cycle begins, but also there's a bunch of darker shit involving the Great Ones, rituals, dreamscapes and hybrid children.
Alternatively get a few beers and read the doc >>337165879 posted.
>>337165529
To put it short.
Some doods finds horrific things in an ancient dungeon, they try to use that shit to become gods but instead they infect the city with blood that turns them into beast, the church use hunters to take the beasts down.
Why is the moon so big in the Nightmare of Mensis? And why is it white instead of red? Is it the same moon we see in the waking world? Is the Moonside Lake part of the nightmare, or the surface of the moon, or something else entirely?
Someone says the enemies who look like beasts are actually just humans, but we see them as beasts.
Is this true?
Does they see me as a beast while I'm in human form, cuz after I kill them they all call me a beast.
Is everyone seeing each other as beasts when we're all human looking?
Post yfw you find out what has become of the most legendary hero.

>>337167334

I just found out about his essay that >>337165879 posted the other day, I read through all of it in a couple of hours. Shit's fucking fascinating.
why do some individuals/beasts cover their eyes? is it to prevent insight/blind themselves to the crazy old god shit that would mindfuck them?
why is Ludwig living with a pile of corpses?
Did he lose his mind and murder people even though they weren't beasts?
>>337167958
Probably a combination of avoiding going crazy from gathering Insight (which is done through seeing certain things) and a matter of keeping the eyes implanted inside one's brain inside their head.
What was the big secret in behind the old hunters?
that some people killed kos, or some say kosm?

The question is Byrgenwerth or Mensis?
His spirit turned into Formless Oedon roaming the lake.
What the fuck are the great ones though? Aquatic beings from deep underwater? Ayy lmaos? Beings from other dimensions? Or humans that ascended into a greater plane? This games lore is /x/ tier.
>>337169057
I would like to know this, too.
Also where did Kos fit in the pantheon? Was he an important old one?
If i'm asleep in the doctor place then how the fuck do i end up outside in yharnam at the end of the game? and why are all the yharnamites telling me to fuck off?

Kos is the being stranded on the beach. The thing you fight at the end is the Orphan of Kos.
>>337168048
i think that he was killing anyone who was trying to get to the fishing hamlet and end the hunters nightmare, so the corpses were people who tried and failed
Is Maria really sleeping?
>>337169775

Also, who was Rom before she became the spider?
>>337169373

>>337169407
As far as we know, Kos is the only true Great One ever encountered. Mergo is an infant, Ebrietas is traumatized and just mourns all day, One Reborn is a shitty pthumerian imitation, Rom is a shitty human imitation, MP is trapped in a weird space dimension and has to rely on hunters to do its bidding, the shoggoth in Mensis is all sorts of fucked up. Kos was the real deal.
>>337170532
>One Reborn is a shitty pthumerian imitation
I thought it was a Mensis experiment
I got a friend who says Bloodborne was fun, but felt thatthe lore is weaker in comparison to Dark Souls. He never really elaborated on why, but do any of you anons feel the same?
>>337170739
I fucking love both. But i think bloodborne's lore is deeper than the 3 games combined.
>>337170739
Dark Souls has had three games to build up its mythos, so I don't think you can truly compare the two.
>>337170739
I've only played Dark Souls 2 so far and didn't gave a shit about the lore. It seemed like the story was disconnected from the gameplay and the visuals way more than the Bloodborne's.
Learning about Bloodborne felt more organic and there were many twists and turns along the way.
>When I first encountered Maria, I had naturally assumed she was talking about her own corpse. Now that I had seen what lay beyond her care, everything fell into place. As I wandered around the Fishing Hamlet, taking a look at its design and features, I came to a new conclusion. Look at how the Kin of the Hamlet throw their harpoons; how the Giants wield massive anchors; how the wrecks of mighty vessels line the coast. This isn’t some quaint fishing village, it’s a whaling town. Prior to the release of the DLC, many players had noted the strange masts sticking out of the water in the Nightmare Frontier. We can now see the origin of these vessels, the Hamlet. The villagers must have sighted the Great One Kos in the sea one day, rising up and taking arms to kill what they must have perceived as a monster. They hunted and killed her, losing many of their whaling ships in the process but inevitably returning home victorious, having sent the creature back to the sea. But one day, the corpse of the dead Great One washed ashore. When the villagers investigated the corpse they found it teeming with parasites, which soon infected and took over the minds and bodies of the villagers, transforming them into the Kin that we encounter them as.
Most interesting and spooky part of Redgrave's essay in my opinion.
>>337169373

>>337170989
didnt bergynwerth experiment on the town? the guy at the start rants about bergynwerth after all
>>337170624
I think Mensis was in charge of Yahargul at one point, but by the time the player gets there, they're all dead and some pthumerian bell-ringing bitches have taken over.
>>337170989
The fact that the villagers refer to her as "Mother Kos" suggests that they worshipped Kos as some kind of god. Whether that was before or after the dead body washed up on their beach is a mystery. I don't think they were responsible for her death though.
>>337171253
than buy DS3 better than DS2 and has way more connections with DS1 than DS2.
DS2 kind of took the lore of DS1 and threw it in the trash. Still a fun game though.
>>337171359
That makes sense. Maybe by using the ritual to create the One Reborn everyone in Yahar'gul got melted into the boss, but how the Pthumerians got there?
>>337170989
The entireity of Bloodborne is a love-note to Lovecraft, but The Old Hunters in particular is one to Shadow over Innsmouth.
>>337171506
No idea, but they're all over the chalice dungeons, there's no reason a few of them couldn't have made their way to the surface.
>>337169407
>the pantheon
Great Ones aren't gods. They're beings with powers so incredible that we, meek little humans, see them as such. In the grand scheme of things, they're just creatures like us. Great Ones are to humans what humans are to ants. You kill a few in the course of the game.
Kos was just a Great One who either washed up dead one day, or was hunted by the fishing hamlet since, again, they're very killable.
>>337170532
Is Mergo's Wet Nurse not also a legitimate Great One? And you could interpret Moon Presence's existence not as being "trapped" in another dimension, but simply belonging to one we cannot comprehend. Can you imagine how difficult it must be to exist in a dimension you're not inherently a part of? Of course not. That's sort of the point.
>>337171436
DaS2 is way better in lore than 3, which retcons everything, makes no sense and is literally "throwbacks" the game.
at least 2 tries to advance the concepts 1 started, as well as introduce original ones.
and for all the "dudes with armor" in 2, DaS3 is LITERALLY nothing but dudes in armor with fiery second phases, and has no environmental variety at all. Even DaS2 has more variety. Honestly when I try to play 3, it just makes me want to go back to DeS.
>>337171707
I'm not getting it either i usually wait for a year and buy goty. It's cheaper on my country to buy goty rather than to pay for DLCs.
>>337171832
>dudes in armor with fiery second phases
this really bothered me.
>>337171832
I do agree with some things you say. DS3's lore literally added nothing. But in my opinion DS2 just mentioned about DS1 so little that sometimes i forgot that they are in the same universe.
>>337171832
Here's the thing, people weren't complaining about humanoid designs in 2, but humanoid player-like movements.
>>337172207
thats why it was good though. it takes the base concept of the lord souls and says that when you link the fire they reincarnate eventually, but thats it. countless kingdoms have risen and fallen. all thats left of firelink is some ruins under that house in majula, and the sunlight statue, which seems almost like it was excavated out of the mountain.
similar concepts inevitably arise, the flame of chaos, for one, and a king with silver knights who tries to fight the chaos and fails, resulting in burnt knights, but takes them a bit further. gwyn ended up all burnt and the black knights are literal roaming ghosts. Ivory king and his loyce knights were absorbed by the chaos and became it's enslaved protectors.
the idea of the shards of manus was interesting, and overall i just preferred the story revolving around the kingdoms of man, and how they reacted to the curse past the age of lords.
while DaS3, which is way after 1, goes back to the lords and gods as a crutch and basically just sort of retreads DaS1 but with a new gimmick of being unkindled instead of undead. and then the rest of the game is DaS1 and DeS rehashes and throwbacks.
>>337159992

They were seeking Paleblood, as explained by the Blood Minister at the start. Chances are they were very sick on top, hence Doll's line about "sickly spirit".
It's stops mattering once the contract is signed.
MOON PRESENCE CURSED LORAN WITH VERMIN BECAUSE THEY SIRED BASTARDS WHICH VIOLATED THEIR BREEDING CONTRACT WITH THE GREAT ONES. VERMIN CAUSE BEASTHOOD. YHARNAM IS VICTIM TO BEASTS BECAUSE OF CARELESS USE OF VERMIN INFESTED BLOOD.
QUEEN ANNALISE IS THE LAST REMAINING MEMBER OF THE PTHUMERIAN ROYAL LINE. SHE IS SEEKING TO BECOME PREGNANT WITH A CHILD OF OEDON LIKE QUEEN YHARNAM DID. ANYBODY WHO CAN SMELL THE MOON ON YOU IS OF CAINHURST DESCENT.
KOS CURSED BYRGENWERTH WITH BLOOD ADDLING AS RETRIBUTION FOR THEIR ATROCITIES AT THE FISHING HAMLET. NOW THEY ARE DOOMED TO SUCCUMB TO AN ENDLESS AND OVERWHELMING BLOODLUST AS PUNISHMENT FOR THEIR BLOODTHIRSTY BEHAVIOR.
MENSIS IS TRYING TO USE MERGO TO ACCOMPLISH ASCENSION. THEY TRIED GRANTING HIM A BODY WITH THE RITUAL THAT CREATED THE ONE REBORN. THEIR FIRST ATTEMPT AT ASKING MERGO FOR BRAINS WITH EYES ON THEM RESULTED IN A GIANT STILLBORN BRAIN COVERED IN EYES. YOU STOP THEM FROM USING MERGO AS AN ELDRITCH LURE FOR MOON PRESENCE.
DJURA'S THIRD ALLY IS PAARL. YOU CANNOT BEFRIEND DJURA BEFORE YOU HAVE MET OR KILLED PAARL. PAARL GUARDS AN ENTRANCE TO OLD YHARNAM. THE OTHER TWO ALLIES ARE THE HUNTER IN OLD YHARNAM AND THE GATLING GUN HUNTER IN THE DARK BEAST CAVE IN THE HUNTER'S NIGHTMARE
HUNTERS OF HUNTERS OATH IS BASED IN THE FISHING HAMLET. THE FIRST HUNTER OF HUNTERS CAME FROM A PLACE WHERE SKY BURIAL WAS TRADITION. FISHING HAMLET HAS SKY BURIALS. HUNTERS OF HUNTERS DEAL WITH PEOPLE WHO ARE CURSED BY KOS.
LUDWIG WAS GUIDED MY MESSENGERS. GUIDANCE RUNE DEPICTS A MESSENGER. THE HOLY MOONLIGHT SWORD WAS A GIFT FROM THEM AND HAS THE SAME PATTERN ALONG THE FLAT OF IT'S BLADE AS THE GREATSWORDS WIELDED BY UNDEAD PTHUMERIAN SOLDIERS IN THE CHALICES. MESSENGERS ARE PTHUMERIANS WHO HAVE ASCENDED TO GREAT ONE STATUS. HOWEVER, THEY ARE CHILDLIKE AND PLAYFUL BECAUSE THEY AREN'T MATURE YET. ASCENSION IS CONSIDERED A REBIRTH AND SO THEY BECAME CHILDLIKE AND SILLY AS A RESULT.

essentially, once the hunters started getting whisked away to the Hunter's Nightmare, superstition arose that having your eyes exposed would cause you to disappear. Hence, people cover their eyes.
also probably has something to do with forsaking natural sight in favor of eyes on the inside.

gods beyond human comprehension. helpful spirits who are simply beyond us, but are not above interacting with us.
Kos helped the villagers of the fishing hamlet, they worshipped her, and in return she helped them ascend to become Kin.
Moon Presence on the other hand is much more manipulative and harder to understand. He clearly traps hunters in the dream for the purpose of acquiring blood echoes and amassing them, but who the fuck knows what his deal is. Like I said, beyond our comprehension.
Lore is for nerds and beasts. I'm at 50 arc and 25 Str, what should I keep raising?

>le it was all a dream
it's not that simple you stupid fuck, did you seriously think you just go to sleep and the whole game takes place?
>why are all the yharnamites telling me to fuck off?
hunters are in part responsible for the curse on yarnham, and they caused a lot of problems. Redgrave has a video theorizing that the PC was a cultist of some sort from the fishing hamlet as evidenced by their previous relationship with brador, and if that's true, then the player truly is at fault for the curse laid by Kos.
>>337170035
she helped the villagers of the fishing hamlet, so she was a helpful great one.
>who was Rom before she became the spider?
i like to think it was Willem's daughter or some shit but that's completely groundless.
>>337170532
you forgot Amy G. Dala
100% great one, although it's unclear if the one you fight in the Nightmare Frontier is any more of a great one than the ones around yarnham. says so in the trophy that it's a great one though.
>>337170989
i loved that part too but I don't know if it holds true. In the Old Hunters guide, it talks about how the raid on the fishing hamlet by the Hunters (Gehrman and Maria among others) is what killed Kos. The Hunters killed her undoubtedly, not the fishing hamlet villagers.
the great ones are described as helpful, Kos and the Fishing Hamlet lived in a kind of symbiosis I think.
Was it just me or was nearing the end of the game going for Platinum the bosses were easier?
Or did I just git gud.

that scene with alfred and what's left of queenie is the best part of bloodborne
My personal interpretation is that the protagonist was a foreigner from a distant land suffering an unusual illness. He hears about the famous city of Yharnam and travels far to get there. Arriving in the city he gets a blood transfusion but passes out and wakes up in the middle of the hunt. He experiences the fall of the city in vivid detail, but in the end (Sunrise ending) wakes up in an empty, abandoned city. Yharnam fell a long time ago.
It wasn't a dream though, Lovecraft was into visions and astral projection-type scenarios. The protagonist really was fighting his way through Yharnam and the Nightmare, just in supernatural form.

I actually equated paleblood with the churchmen, Pthumerians and bagmen. They all ended up the same as tall, gaunt white-skinned guys, which I assumed was the "correct" result of blood infusion and so on. They were the ones who didn't become beasts.
I think Miyazaki actually said what paleblood was in an interview though so IIRC my idea was wrong.

It's not a literal dream. Dreams, Nightmares and the Waking World are different planes of existence in Bloodborne.
>>337191214
I dunno. One of the things that really endeared me to Bloodborne was the "twist". Literally nobody knew that it was going into Elder God territory before it was released. They were very deliberate in not showing anything of it in the promotion of the game.

The hunter's dream is a plane/dimension/general space that the Hunter is tied to at the start of the game, through the "contract" with what is known as the Moon Presence.
It's not a dream in the sense of a hallucination when you nap, it's the Lovecraft interpretation of being a tangible place. It's all real.
Yharnam is also real, and there's only one Yharnam (the warped memory of it inside the Hunter's Nightmare is a separate entity). Great Ones exist on multiple planes simultaneously, hence killing them just tends to slay them on that one plane.
>>337191705

>>337193168
no, the waking world is the real world. as a great one, you can affect what happens on multiple planes of existence, including the waking world. the Yharnam in game is the real Yharnam, but it just happens to overlap with several nightmares because of all the shit that Bergenweryth and Mensis did.
what you do in game does affect the waking world. you kill Mergo, MP releases his hold on you, Yharnam is mostly saved because everyone that did all the crazy shit is dead now, but eventually it all happens again.
you become new wheel man, Yharnam is mostly saved until another hunt is started up setting the cycle again and again.
you become an Ayyy, you get phenomenal cosmic power in a itty bitty living space that will eventually grow big and strong as a squid Ayyy
>>337193168
Everything you did affected the home realm. You slaughtered Mergo and the two dozen big ol' beasties that were terrorizing the place and prevented the Blood Moon beasty apocalypse.
>>337169373
Dream beings who transcend the binding laws of reality. They occupy dimensions of space and time that we as lesser beings can't comprehend without the gaining of immense insight.
This was one of the driving motivations behind both the Church and Bergenwerth - the ascension of the human mind or body.
>>337194338
Well even after all these years, the Church is very protective of their origins and Byrgenwerth.
I don't think any location in Bloodborne is part of the 'waking world' as we know it. The Hunter's Dream, the Nightmares, and even Yharnam proper are all hazily-connected locales ambiguous in their existence as a 'real' place. The game mentions that you came from the outside world but makes no mention of what it's like. For all intents and purposes, you start to exist as soon as you enter Yharnam.
I think it quite literally is all a dream or series of dream-environments, interconnected by eldritch fancy and penetrated by the cosmic wills of the Great Ones.

>>337191813
I really love how trick weapons effectively doubled the number of weapons in the game.
Did the MP always want the hunters that came through the dream to kill Mergo? Why have so many hunters passed through the dream only to be released before killing Mergo? Are you just "the chosen one"?
How would the hunt begin again after the player kills all that he kills? Is this just a never ending cycle like DaS?
>>337180479
>innocent

When are they going to get rid of the stamina bar and just place solid ends to combos instead of letting you wail on and then walk about for a bit like a toad waiting for it to recharge?
At this point I'm certain it's only there because it's been there since King's Field, where it was equally dumb since you couldn't even combo.
>>337198212
>Is this just a never ending cycle like DaS?
Whatever cycles occur in Bloodborne are the result of poor foresight, nothing cosmically dictated or karmic about it.
The hunt was on regularly because Ludwig insisted on arming the general populace. This led to wide overuse of blood, which led to more crazed townspeople/beasties, which led to more dictated hunts, which led to even bigger beasts as combating bigger beasties required more blood, and so on.
Before Ludwig, the Hunt was a very rare occurrence.
MP used hunters for whatever end. Considering he's modeled after the Deceiver from Lovecraft, he probably had more than one plot going.
But considering that his reign in Yharnam has arguably only lasted about a lifetime, you could say he's been using Hunters to bait Byrgenwerth/Church into trying to summon/contact Mergo, thus creating path to Mergo and making the infant Great One vulnerable.
The Hunt will not begin for a very long time after you slaughter Mergo and Moon Presence, since nearly everyone involved with blood ministration is fucking dead. Yharnam has earned a rest.

>>337191092
2. Queen Annalise and the Bloody Crow of Cainhurst.
If we extend the classification to the Cainhurst bloodline we also have Arianna and Lady Maria.
If we trace the Cainhurst bloodline back to ancient Pthumeru, we have many more.
>>337199637
It's generally accepted that the vile, forbidden blood that was stolen away at Byrgenwerth and used to found Cainhurst was ancient Pthumerian blood, right?
>>337199165
Speed, movesets, combos.
Trick weapons were purposefully crafted to suit the aggressive, fast paced, nature of Bloodborne. Fitting in perfectly with the rally system and sidestep approach.
Dark Souls, even Dark Souls III, is considerably slower than Bloodborne.
Introducing weapons designed to reward aggressive play in a game focused on defensive play would not fit well at all. Obviously, that isn't to say Dark Souls doesn't have weapons that reward aggressive users, but they aren't nearly on the level of trick weapons.
This isn't even touching the lore behind trick weapons.
Not lore related but...
What are everyone's favourite weapons? They're not the most practical but I love the kirk hammer and boom hammer myself. I've almost gone through the entire game with the kirkhammer and while it has some significant problems it's the most satisfying weapon to use, I feel.
The boom hammer is just fucking cool as shit.

>>337199727
That's one interpretation, and it's likely wrong.
The most obvious implication that Vilebloods have Pthumerian heritage is the fact that Queen Yharnam's song is titled "Of the Pthumerian Line", which abruptly changes into "The Vileblood Queen" (Queen Annalise's song) part way through.
Then we have the fact that we only know of two royal figures, Queen Annalise and Queen Yharnam.
We also have the adornment of Pthumerian armour, statues, and weapons around Cainhurst. Suggesting these things have been in the noble tradition a long time.
Then we have the fact that ghosts only appear in two places; Cainhurst, and the Chalice Dungeons (notably Pthumerian Dungeons).
Furthermore, we have the parallels between Queen Yharnam's blood mastery, and the blood mastery displayed by Lady Maria.
Take note that Lady Maria is not actually a Vileblood, despite being of Cainhurst nobility. Yet she still posses the power of blood mastery that Queen Yharnam also possesses. This would imply that rather than consuming the Forbidden Blood (which you are implying gives Vilebloods their Pthumerian similarities) she simply has Pthumerian blood mastery through her own bloodline.
And lastly, Arianna, a Cainhurst noble, has blood explicitly stated as being similar to the Forbidden Blood, this would further contradict your statement and imply that Cainhurst shares Pthumerian blood.
Unless you want to imply imbibing blood somehow makes your blood take the properties of that which you imbibed; which we have no proof nor reason to suspect.
tl;dr:
Overwhelming proof suggests Cainhurst are Pthumerian descendants.
>>337200628
Additional note; both Arianna and Queen Yharnam were impregnated by the Formless Oedon.
Perhaps implying a fondness for their specific bloodline.
>>337200628
Right, right, so the Vile Blood is just something different.
Also explains why there's Bloodsuckers in the Chalice Dungeons. Not so much why they're in Hunter's Nightmare.
>>337200524
The cosmos, of course!
>>337200524
Depends if we're talking about a dead god or one brain-fried dead idiot trying to remember what he learned a long time ago.
>>337201061
Forbidden Blood might well be Oedon's blood.
It would play well into the mercury poisoning symbolism. See, Oedon's rune has a marking similar to the symbol for mercury.
Then we have the statement that "the oozing blood is the essence of the Formless Oedon". Now essence can be defined as either the intrinsic nature of something, or the extract of something.
If the Formless Oedon were to exist only in voice, it would make sense that his blood extract would be highly forbidden. Toxic. Vile, even.
Perhaps, it shouldn't exist at all.
>>337200936
>>337200628
The servant's appearance in Castle Cainhurst closely resembles that of Pthumerian Watchers from chalices. Certain statues appear in Pthumerian settlements and also on the grounds of Castle Cainhurst. Some Watchers wield kriss daggers. Logarius also wields a Kriss dagger.
Ready for next level lore? Logarius is the King of Cainhurst.

>>337202801

At the same time, he looks like a Pthumerian "undead", so who knows he might have been dug up by Byrgenwerth on their chalice dungeon exploration
>>337202806
Yes he is.
>They're way too fanatical to accept a turncoat either, I feel.
Three things: He's the founder, so he can make the rules. Secondly, being Cainhurst doesn't make you Vileblood.
Finally: Who else would feel most motivated to put an end to the crimes of the Vilebloods? Perhaps the King was better poised to object to this than most. >>337202801
>"Acts of goodness are not always wise, and acts of evil are not always foolish, but regardless, we shall always strive to be good".
I feel this is key. The vilebloods are the ones being evil, but their goal of helping create the Child of Blood isn't foolish. Logarius is being "good" and sparing Annalise, but it's not the wisest choice.
>>337203010
>I'm fairly sure they tried to kill her a fair few times
They never confirm it at all, and Alfred's whole querst is about going and doing what Logarius failed to do. All she does when you hurt her is mention how she's basically unkillable.
>"Now Master can be canonized as a true martyr!"
This implies that Logarius wasn't actually a Martyr because he failed at stopping the Queen. Alfred finally finished the job and made Logarius' martyrdom actually relevant/consequential.
>>337202801
Isn't it because she's basically immortal and trying to kill her is a ridiculous task? Sealing her away seemed to be a better method than trying to murder someone with infinite lives who can keep respawning, plus it stops any of her followers from getting to her either.
Hell, when you do "kill" her you get queenly flesh, which implies she's still alive even when she's a slab of meat. Just chuck it on the altar/grill and hey presto you have a barbecue party with the not-a-vampire queen.
