I am talking about celeron, 2GB, intel HD, 13 inch monitor type of toaster..

I have yet to find a space 4x game with a good UI. So not very well.

Guys im kinda confused. EU 4 player here. In EU 4, one could simply get a big army and start invading other countries. In this game, fleet limit is very close to each other (Comparing nations). Is there an effective way to outpower other nations militarily?

I had an issue for many games on an ATI card where I had to change something in that tool that runs in the task tray. Changed it to allow for full usage of the GPU.

It was strange too, I could start Europa 4, ARK, Dota no problem, but simple shit like Darkest Dungeon and FTL wouldn't run at all, just show up in the running list of processes and then immediately go away.

It's better than Civ, whole lot less depth than EU4 or any of the other GS titles. I think my major complaint is there's simply not a lot of detail in some aspects of the game like trade, religion, etc. Also, I get that a galaxy is probably going to be pretty sparse on population since we've been looking for life IRL and can't find signs anywhere, but I'd have rather had lots of small, fragmented planets throughout space than several large empires doing a land grab all throughout the early game. Perhaps they should've had an FTL travel phase between being stuck within your home system and freely warping from system to system -- maybe something like warping to another system is very expensive and slow for a while, so you can travel, but you won't be jumping through systems any more than once a year with each ship. Would also explain why you could have neighbors of your same race inhabiting a lot of nearby worlds that aren't under your control at start; the length of time it takes to travel and resources involved in maintaining order in your homeworld and surrounding planets would be very difficult.

I downloaded the android mod from the workshop and am running a Xenophobic/Fanatic Collectivist Despotic Empire, with very strong, decadent, and repugnant as my traits.

I just made a vassal out of my neighbors early game, looking to wipe out another civ completely.

The combo of my slaves, xeno slaves, mining tech, and the very strong trait have me sitting at 8k minerals despite being pretty early still.
>>
>>337165423
This pretty much, my 2 biggest complaints as a GS-noob are the lack of customization as far as backgrounds go and the RNG tech search, I mean there's lots of desert/tropical worlds around me and I can't do fucking anything with them.
>>
>>337165181
It'd be strange as fuck, but I could see it happening. Say a bunch of humans lived on a planet that was eventually ravaged by war or near a dying star, so they loaded up people on ships and launched as many as they could in various directions until they all landed on a world that could support life. After countless year, original humans forget their origins until spaceflight is discovered again. Human populations from various planets in space meet with each other.

>>337165423
I think the game has lots of potential, but it would probably take several packs of DLC before it reaches that point. CK2 and EU4 were both pretty barebones at first, they picked up quite a bit after a few expansions though. V2 is the only one I feel didn't get much steam as expansions were released for it, but EU3 vanilla and complete is as different as night and day.

Here's a pointless blogpost about how my space empire is doing.

I'm the blue empire in the top-right (Tekari). Grey empire right below me are my vassals who are just about to be integrated - beat them in a war ages ago and its taken forever to integrate them. The little brown spot and yellow one right below me are uplifted primitive vassals.

Planning on going to war with the blue empire above me after I finish integration - we were allies at the start of the game and they helped me win that war, but the border friction became too much.

Kaspalv league are Pacifist Xenophobes and want absolutely nothing to do with anyone. Hydari remnant is a fallen empire.

Most of the right half of the galaxy is in a federation with me, we've had a few wars against the Valdari + Shantar and won, which gave the Kedeshi + Kammarians a lot of their territory back.
The little yellow spot in the middle of Norillga are Humans.

The left half of the galaxy with all the little empires is a lot more interesting diplomacy-wise. Lots of small alliances against eachother. The bit above the Tal'Akkur used to be one empire, but it split into two at some point.

Not really much to do in this game other than wait for bars to fill.
>>
Is this Endless Space?

How to minerals:
>Build more mines on your planets (ideally on spaces which already give 1 or 2 minerals)

>Scan some systems with your science ship and use your construction ship to build mining stations on things in space which give minerals (like asteroids and stuff)

>If you're good for influence, you can issue the 'Production Targets' edict on a planet to increase its mineral output by 15%

>You can also use diplomacy, and give other empires energy or research agreements and stuff and ask for minerals in return.
>>
>>337168771
I haven't played to late game, but for me it seems like frontier outposts are very good. You can harvest resources from the systems nearby, and they don't increase research costs, unlike colonies with their pops. So if you have positive influence, plop some around a rich system, or stars close to eachother.

If it makes any difference I can play games like Skyrim on medium settings with no problem, and Civ 5 on high without any problems.

So is there literally no point whatsoever in even trying to go tall in this game?

It feels like no matter what your focus, any empire with more planets than you will always be better than you - they will always have more ships, more fleet capacity and often better tech.

I don't even think you can go tall, after you fill your planets with people and buildings, that's it. And more colonies don't stop you from doing that.
Only difference is science increasing with population costs, but that's more about scaling than enabling tall strategies.

Expect it to get deeper after a couple years when Paradox release the 700th DLC for it.

>>337172127
Not really important. By default it will automatically update the ship designs with your 'best' components.

It only becomes useful when you need to change up weapons to beat an enemy - missiles ignore shields and lasers ignore armor. Therefore if your enemy uses lots of shields and lasers, it makes sense to change your ship designs to use more missiles and shields.

I'll ask again. Why do I tend to have way too much energy with nothing to use it on? I always try to remain at least positive on generating it, but eventually I just tend to have so much fucking energy I cannot use it all even if I try.

I had the same "problem", if you aren't going to war constantly you're going to have a large energy surplus since the #1 use of energy tends to be fleet maintenance and you don't pay (as much?) maintenance when your fleets are in port.

Once you start getting more militarily active you'll be strapped a bit more for energy.

You make a station, and anywhere in it's radius you can move.

When you have a presentient race on a planet, what are you supposed to do with them?

They are just taking up a lot of space right now and getting pissy sometimes.
>>
A couple thoughts on the game.

>1) Neutral Space Threats
One thing I really like about this game is how they handled neutral space threats. Things like the void clouds, space amoebas, and early game pirates are all relatively weak. This is really good because that means you can actually fight them using your early game ships and weapons. One of the worst things about Endless Space, which is a game I really enjoy, an early game pirate fleet can fuck your shit up bad because they are very strong for little to no reason. Also this means that early game militaristic races get some action and use out of their traits and technology, and peaceful races still have to have defenders even if they aren't having warfare. It's well done.

>2) Race selection and creation
Besides my pet peeve of how 'X race is accustomed to desert planets hur dur' the race creation is really solid. The portraits are great, and something really simple and low effort as a color swap makes your race so much more color and you can actually tell your damn leaders apart. Additionally, something as simple as changing the window behind each leader portrait for the empire really perfectly captures their ethos and what they're all about. It's very well done. Speaking of that, I fucking love the Ethics system, it makes for very interesting choices and aliens you meet, and to top it off all the special rare technologies, special events, even greetings give you that feeling.

Oh, and if you are like me, you'll notice that if you play a Xenophobic race all aliens are instead of being called 'Alpha Aliens' or 'Beta Aliens', they are called 'Alpha Menace' or 'Beta Menace'. It's just great.

>3) AI
Haven't played enough of the game yet, but its a little disappointing how restrictive the AI is. If they don't like you they'll never accept trade agreement for any amount with certain factors; I find it a little dumb that I can't pay off this bird race like 1500 energy credits just to have civilian access. Oh well.
>>
>>337178903
>an early game pirate fleet can fuck your shit up bad because they are very strong for little to no reason.
This is not just Endless Space, every space game which has space pirates has them more powerful that empires at the start for some reason

So if I craft the 4th ship will it attach to the fleet or go independent?

Also If I gather resources and upgrade to level 2 spaceport will it build stronger ships by default?

It should automatically attach to the fleet.

Ships only get stronger if you research technology pertaining to ships. Spaceport upgrades give it more slots for spaceport components and allow them to build destroyers/cruisers/battleships.
>>
>>337180470
it will attach, or you could separate them, or attach them if they are not attached

>Also If I gather resources and upgrade to level 2 spaceport will it build stronger ships by default?
No, you can make ships as strong or as weak as you want and you always have every ship type available
>>

if you box select a group of shifts you can click a button that merges them into one fleet.
i think its on the upper left of the window after you've selected them all.

upgrading to level 2 spaceport gives you another module slot,

and i think off the bat it just gives you the ability to add a module that increases building speed of corvettes and lowers their cost

The game frustrates me because there are lots of little quality of life improvements that it needs.

For one, they should have remembered why people like the EU style mapmodes and let us better customize what we see on the galactic map. Simple or detailed isn't good enough, especially when half of that detail still disappears if you zoom out a bit too far.

The Outliner also needs some work, I can turn off sections of it but have no way to shrink it or make it more space efficient.

Managing surveying and constructing I can handle since there's an option to do all in that system but collecting debris is really tedious without a similar option. Perhaps science ships could do with a setting to allow them to auto-complete any relevant tasks in their current system.

In my first version of the IoM I went with this, with the second I went fanatic militaristic + spiritualist (thanks to this I have been able to develop psykers or at least I think it's because of this), solitary, non-adaptive, rapid breeders, intelligent.

It also depends on what kind of imperium you want to go post or before the HH, post would be xenophobic, pre-just militarist, as it stands now in the second version I have a divine mandate even though the emperor didn't really want to be seen as a god.

There is plenty shallow parts about it, I won't lie. Diplomacy and trade are on par on MOO2. Master of Orion 2 was released 1993ish, I would suspect there would be a lot more economical and diplomatic options between empires in a game made during 2016.

Planetary Edicts are not worth doing since the huge influence cost. Stellaris has the potential to be fucking amazing at everything, but it is just not there yet.

I'm not exactly an influence master but certain techs in the society tree raise it, as do certain later game structures (upgrading your capital for example)

>>Also, about how long does it take to be able to stand up against a Fallen Empire?

If you manage to build a fleet large enough that it lists their relative fleet strength as "superior" instead of "overwhelming" they will actually pussy out and not declare war when you refuse their demands

For me this was about 40k of fleet power. Still not actually enough to win a fight against them, they can throw around 60+, but apparently enough to make them think twice about invading.
>>
>>337190241
Just vassalise them. It doesn't seem that AI factors in vassals to your overall strength so they'll start wars that you and your vassals can easily win.

Its hilarious how easy you can abuse this in the early game to become extremely strong.
