Bloodtinge build with BMA can easily do 700 damage+ before resistances with an Evelyn.

Maybe. Slayer of Demons is pretty damn fast given the fact that armour in DeS was also pretty useless for the most part. All it would take is one good solid hit with a Dragonbone Smasher or Cannon/Kirkhammer/whatever else and the fight would be all but decided.

Shields aren't unheard of in Bloodborne. The Hunters just don't use them because they're ineffective against the beasts they hunt.
That should speak volumes about how goddamn tough the enemies in Bloodborne must be. 1. Guns. Shields have no bloodtinge resist.
2. Trick weapons. Threaded Cane, the scythe, that other whip weapon, all direct counters to pissy shields.

Slayer of Demons in the opening looked cool as fuck. He actually knows how to parry, and lives through a murakomo smashing him through a wall. And he makes it through 1-1 without being able to power up, so he can't 100% coast off soul power.

I'd even guess that the hunter might be potentially stronger as well. So he is faster and tough, can regenerate via combat, and is just as strong if not stronger.
Hunter would walk through everyone but the demon slayer. He would have to walk through that one twice.
Lore-wise it will probably be a tie between Hunter and Ashen One as they both can potentially ascend to godhood.

If you go with a bloodtinge build, yes. You still can't go through it all by only shooting, at least not your first time, because you need to sacrifice health to get extra bullets and if you aren't good at the game you can't afford to sacrifice health.
I went with bloodtinge on my second character and it's still my favorite build, with a mix of edgy weapons and guns.
