Stellaris thread.
Xenophile scums not welcomed
I still have no fucking idea what sectors are. Any help here would be appreciated.
Can I change the design of my ships? For example, can I change a construction ship to a colony ship?
>>337110208
>I still have no fucking idea what sectors are
Sectors are what several solar systems are named on your map, like 'Betel Nebula'. They are mostly irrelevant.
>Can I change the design of my ships?
Yes.
>For example, can I change a construction ship to a colony ship?
Yes, you need the appropriate technology though, Subquantum Adjustment or something.
>haven't played yet
>been browsing these threads all day
>on my way home now
I'm so hyped.
>>337112668
It's bretty gud.
Just be warned it does take a while to start up if you're new, but it's worth it. Learning curve is steep for about an hour or two.
>>337109905
Still hella confused on sectors, are they meant a group of plaents and stations? Right now all the planets have barely any buildings on them.
Half my empire are now enslaved xenos, how long till I can expect an uprising?
How the fuck do I invade the primitives?
How is it?
>>337113130
slaves cannot rebel in the current build. A future patch will fix this.
Installed from the Codex crack as per usual. When I try to launch, it shows an icon on the task bar, then crashes a moment later. No screen, no task manager process, no nothing.
Anyone familiar with this problem? I've updated my graphics drivers, and is currently scanning for malware.
>>337109905
fuck yeah about to start and create my militaristic xenophobes
I built a fleet with 78k fire power and destroyed my economy completely, however, it'll he fine once I take over the galaxy and capture resources with it.

They're literally the same thing except with retard-tier compression.

Sure it isn't. Common sense is going to.

yeah, but it installs quick and usually much smaller sized torrent so I don't see a downside
Made Zerg. Time to breed and enslave!
>>337114905
Go forth and breed!
>>337110413
>Sectors are what several solar systems are named on your map, like 'Betel Nebula'. They are mostly irrelevant.
This is wrong. Sectors are like vassals in previous Paradox games. You have no real control over them so you don't have to micromanage them but on the other hand they only give you 50% of their income.
>>337115584
You can modify how much they give you in Empire management

>>337122728
It's paper scisor rock situation but usually missiles are the best.
>>337122728
If they have lots of armor, lasers
If they have lots of shields, ballistics or missiles
If they have lots of missiles, point defense
If they have no point defense, missiles and strike wings
If they have a balanced force. Shit yourself.
IMO lasers are the best weapon to start with. Nothing is going to have shields for a long time and by the time they do have shields you can get torpedoes which penetrate them.
Also, ships generally die from the first ship in a fleet to the last. So put lots of heavy armor ones on top and your weaker glass cannons last.
Is the game decent now or should I wait for the inevitable half dozen DLC packs?
>>337123616
Its decent now.
How does it compare to Civ V?
>>337123702
It has slightly more depth than Civ V, and the AI is slightly better in Stellaris.

Very straightfoward
These assholes started on 1 time. Assumed I could breed faster than them. I was wrong.
I can't purge them, I can't slave them. I sectioned off the plan and ignore them.
How does it compare to Distant Worlds?
So I just found my first fallen empire. Why does their territory seem to have two shades of "colour", whereas everyone else has just one? Is that a fallen empire thing, or something else I don't know about. Also about to wage a war on same weird anteater folk, because they cucked me out of a Gaia planet. The thing is, they don't even have a colony on the planet, just in their frontier station radius. I assume I can just wreck their fleet and stations and then white peace out or just take some minor minerals when I take a "cede planet" wargoal?
>>337109905
Whats wrong with being a xenophile? You can make friends with aliens easier
>>337125916
Not even that. A federation of multiple species is better, since strong or industrious pops can be better on mineral rich worlds for example.
>Want to try Stellaris

Holy fuck its so hard to be purist Imperial in this. Even once you take a Xeno scum planet you have to purge only one or two pops then replace it with your own humans, then purge the entire planet. Its fucking satisfying but god it takes forever. Also I accidentally vassaled Xeno scum and am now stuck with them. If I intergrate them into my Empire does that mean that all their planets become mine but they all stay disgusting alien scum?
If so is my better option to just declare war on them and nuke all their planets from orbit?
Pic related is my empire. Vassal is the blue dudes next to me. I'm slowly but surely growing.
>>337128989

Make sure they both have a pop of 5 so you can upgrade your centre to planet administration. Then just click on the population you want to resettle, choose the planet, where you want them to go on the planet and drag them over. Resettlement is instant as well I think.
>>337114079
Although they can not rebel, having slaves will cause friction between the different species within your empire. Eventually, as you conquer space, not every planet will be filled with your own race - So it's generally best to treat your own dudes as "Master race" and enslave the shitty ones, but keep a few "Decent-tier races" as non-slaves so you can live in harmony.

One of the buildings you can create boosts research. You could just sit on one planet, but you'll probably run out of planets to mine since influence builds pretty slowly.
>>337132235
Science is a resource.
You can stay on one planet in theory, but you can't build mining stations on planets outside your borders and your amount of border-expanding space stations is limited by your influence.

I'm wondering this too.

Less.
It's a typical Paradox game. Decent but rather bare-bones on release, then it gets 60 different DLCs to expand it. Though it's the least buggy release Paradox ever had so at least that's positive.
>>337132865

I've been playing for a hour or two, and I already got somewhat bored of it. Why do all flaws only give 1 trait point while there are shit that cost 2, 3, 4 and even 5 points?
Even then, the game feels as much of a waiting simulator as Civ 5/BE but without making it much interesting or having a friendly interface at all. At least the game is not as much of a micromanaging simulator as Democracy 3.
>>337109905
So I'm fairly new and I think I've got a problem. Playing essentially space Rome as fanatical militarist xenophobe and just conquered a few worlds from my neighbors but now I've got political dissidents coming out my ass. I would purge most enslave the rest but my people can't live on their worlds.

It depends. If you want depth and complexity, stick with DW at least until Stellaris has more DLC so you can get it on sale and/or pirate it. If you want a more polished but less complex experience, Stellaris is still a great game and definitely easier to get into, it just needs some time to grow to its full potential.

On the one hand that sounds great because the fucking massive tech trees in other 4x games always took half an eternity for me to understand in detail.
On the other hand that sounds like bad luck can fuck you up quite quickly.
>get attacked by AI
>have twice the territory
>his fleet is slightly bigger than mine
>from what I can tell our tech is about the same
>our fleets fight
>he loses 5% of his fleet
>lose game
I don't understand.
why is diplomacy so shit? why paradox why? leader cultivation/leader relations aren't even a thing
The great thing about robutts is that once you kick them out you don't have to give their land back to the empires that owned it.
It's literally free territory.
Question:
How do I build a fucking warship? I started with the all the tutorials on because I don't know shit, and like 3 months into the game I get a warning about hostile alien ships intruding on my solar system. And I cannot for the life of me find out how to make more warships. The only place that constructs anything is that construction ship and it only constructs stations. I have a few warships I started with but I don't think they're gonna hold up against the cockslap army coming to get me.
>>337134328
What weapons/shields did you use?
Will this game run on a toaster?
I stumbled upon some shitty iron age primitives. Is there a way I can enslave them and throw them onto other planets or some shit? I'm playing as a despotic empire so slaving and purging is fine
>>337134423
Hold on though. The "Hostile Alien fleet" thingie is actually mostly part of the beginning of the game where you are supposed to make first contact with an alien race. Not only that, but warships will appear later into the game. Until then, you can research a destroyer for basic defenses.

turns out when those xenos can't shoot anything aside of rockets, they are not that scary against some good old railguns with point defenses to back it up.
was fun not to lose single ship with 5k vs 5k fleet battle.
also, do I need additional technology for planetary bombardment or I missed something?
>>337134935
I've tried Wormhole and Hyperdrive so far. While Hyperdrive definitely starts off a lot faster since they're not restricted by the range of your wormhole stations, it's a worse when you get big and you have to navigate all those random ass hyperlanes to get from one end to another, instead of just straight jumping from station to station.

While I'm sure the Pope consolidating power was a side effect, Popes had tried this before to little effect. when you declare a war you can pick various goals, get a system to you or make them your vassal. That's about it.
to integrate vassals to your empire, you need a lot of influence resource and quite some time
Just finished the event to give my Synthetic pops full rights and signed an accord with them making it impossible for me to outlaw or enslave AI.
It's at this point my science ship runs into a Fallen Empire who tells me to cut that out. It doesn't take 'I literally can't' for an answer and destroys my fleets in war. Problem is, they can't enforce their demands because of the accords and as soon as the war is over they start whining at me again. Another war is probably on the horizon.

>>337139590
It seems that here it's more simplified.
you need influence resource for 3 things aside of empire integration: building outpost to expand your borders (for systems without colonizable planets), hiring governor/scientist/admirals etc - quite cheap, and can live long enough, and various buffs for planets which are a bit expensive.
resource generates itself +3 for every(most) types of civilizations as far I gather, you can pump it up if to declare other nation your rival.
Until I actually tried to integrate nation - I didn't really have a problem with resource scarcity. Tho I'm new to grand strategy games.

how does managing your planets work? can you theoretically do it manually or are there giant penalties for managing too much shit yourself like the demesne limit from CK2?
>>337140196
All types can be countered. I've easily won a war against rocket spewing furries by placing one anti-rocket gun on each ship. Most of them just blew up halfway to my fleet. Lasers are heavily countered by good shields, projectiles by armor. Ideally you need all techs at a decent level but it is not always possible so just concentrate on one and take some side arm as an emergency switch.
>>337139919
I figured out I could just destroy their space station and then invade instead :^)
>>337141506
There is a core planet limit yeah, and you gain demense-style penalties if you go over it.
You then set "sectors" which are sort of weird pseudo-vassals who don't have their own militaries but manage their own development.
Collectivist + Fanatical Materialist space shrooms here. I went with the scientist run government and I'm enjoying it so far. Having tech choice is nice. I want to upgrade to the advanced version ASAP for even more choices.
However, are the +science output mods even working? Are they just hidden? I can't really see any place their effects are listed. I went with intelligent + natural sociologists, so science mods are my only racial bonus.

I think one of the dev diaries talked about sector separatism but I've yet to see them do anything noteworthy.
So just how big is the largest map size?
>>337139514
Just the basic one. Everything else is junk or cosmetics.
Society has long since evolved past the insignificant rivalries and concerns of the individuals. We are numerous but one, and the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. We stand truly equal....The purpose of the individual is simple: strengthen the collective. To enter the blackness of space we move as one, and we shall not be weakened by wanton separatism.

You can't show the fullest of your white supremacy if you can't conquer a space nation with only black individuals if you delete all the non-white portraits from the game directory. There needs to be an option while making your government to have your pops, scientists, leaders and army mens to be a certain skin color. Plus it gives more roleplay options to the ones I have already stated.
Little hint that some people aren't aware about
Traits of scientists influence that technology you get to research
And you can really get unique shit if you have someone with maniaca trait
>>337142402
You can integrate them into your empire I believe.
>>337142425
>white supremacists like yourself
I am playing space slavs though
>>337142071
1,000 star systems. Devs have said that the engine could probably handle more than that, but it's the official limit. Very little is actually hardcoded in for the sake of moddability.
>>337142547
How?
>start up a game
>find a spacedwelling race right at the edge of my influence
>feed them tech as soon as I can
>two years later I have a vessel
I think I just dodged a bullet.
How easy is it to get into if I'm new to GSG?
Played enough 4x to know how they work though.
>>337142592
IIRC somebody on
>>337142649
you have an option when you communicate with them - "intergrate" at bottom. need to wait year or so, then pay a lot of influence.
till that they will do their thing, you can trade and such. if you at war with someone else - they'll send a fleet to aid your fleet.
What happened MOO?
>>337142851
Guess I'll go fuck some other guy up while I wait.
are alien civs randomized or pregen?
>>337142802
pretty easy I think, I never played any grand strategy what so ever. and timesinked 9 hours into this without realizing it
>>337142958
both
My goal is to find as many primitive planets as possible and slowly just integrate them into my empire.
How hard is it to get pre-space age civs to join me?
Does killing the Space Cows give you any decent research?
REMINDER that /gsg/ already provided a germanic name list, so you don't have to endure all these shit names:
http://mega.co.nz/#!BxczTKSL!dI5-p9V3t81D4FCgvX6KdcFcESL7rMQKys2qEmz2IIQ
It also removes Asian and Black portraits from the game, but it leaves Middle-eastern in it, so you might want to fix this yourself.
>>337142802
you might have a game or two where you fail within an hour. But after that you'll most likely get it.
>>337143071
/gsg/ living up to their sterling reputation yet again
>>337143071
nice, thanks
Is it just me or is this Distant Worlds for retards?
>>337143008
So if I create and save one, is it added to the pregen pool?
>>337119327
>Not rapid breeders

>>337143071
>removes Asian and Black portraits
>Not making them a different race so you can findem as pre-space tech worlds
No worth it imo
>>337143242
Once you've saved them, there's a pheonix symbol by their name. You can click this to make the A) Always show up B) Sometimes show up or C) Never show up.
>>337143242
yeah, there is 3 options I believe - it doesn't spawn, it may spawn, it'll be forced to spawn in new game
>>337143289
Just take the name list then autist and delete the gfx folder in the mod folder.
Reminder that this mod was literally released six hours after release, so show some respect :^).

>>337135135
So lets say I make ISIS they would be spiritual militaristic right ?
Is there a map model to show up alliances and federations?
So how does one win the game? Control 30% territory or something?
>>337143456
>respect
>for such a lazily done mod
You would get some respect if you could choose what color race to be without being extremely lazy and deleting the other portraits.
If you are going to be a x skin color supremacists what is the point if you can't enslave or purge people of skin color you don't like. /gsg/ proving yet again how shit they are
>>337143071
Does that mean you just removed all the non-western names and portraits?
So i have been following one of the precurser quest chains for a while, and it finally highlighted the machine civ homeworld, cybrex. I have a science ship just sitting in the system and there is no prompt to do anything. The quest says to "launch an expedition to discover their homeworld" but there is nothing in the system besides the quest highlight.
>>337143336

Neat. Thanks.

Completely new Germanic names for everything. White (and middle-eastern) portraits override the others, no new ones.
>>337143753
It was a quick fix yesterday thrown together by three anons in the thread and hastily released in order to enjoy the game properly throughout the night. End yourself if you don't appreciate these first steps or actually take this game seriously.

If you mod a trait to cost less, make a custom empire using the lower costs and the mod the trait back to normal again, can you still use that custom empire?
Where do I check all my current modifiers?
I'm making custom robot race and I'm editing traits to get multiple of them, (for example 5 extremely adaptive for 100% habitability and 5 repugnant traits at once so other species won't like me since I'm a robot) and I don't know if all those traits work so I wanted to check it.
>start as Collectivist
>hated by everyone forever
Feels bad man

But anon, I already have a race of rapid breeders. It wouldn't be unique if I did the same.
>choose democratic 5 year election thing

>still get elected every 5 years
this game is quite realistic
>>337142071
1000 stars by default. Every star has least 2 planets from seen. Probably 4-5 on average, with 10 at the most. So 2000-10000 planets.
Its pretty massive. And the size isn't hardcoded. A couple changes to the lua file, and you can do 2000 star systems if you want, but your computer probably can't handle it.
>>337144251
Did you actually take a fucking picture of your screen?

Is this game actually fun?
I heard it was lacking in features.
Wow, the amount of solitary spiritualistic xenophobes is astoundingI chose it too
There's a bug in the creation screen that allows you to take ineligible traits.
Still, it is retarded how alien slave tolerance doesn't allow you to take decadence.
So what is this game?
Is it Aurora 4x lite?
>>337145768
It's like Distant Worlds lite.
How do I remove all the black skins from the human race? 90% of my people are fucking niggers.

Then, I went for the capital and destroyed all of their armies. The dudes just said "Ok, we lose" and my army disappeared and we entered some sort of truce and I can't attack them again.

Whatever, just tell me how to dominate the faggots.
I declared war on them. I couldn't put every possible condition on the right because then my warscore was "too high", whatever the fuck that means. I simply chose to put "Vassalize opponent" as the one condition. But when the motherfuckers surrendered, nothing happened. My army simply disappeared off the map and the faggots are still roaming around doing whatever the fuck they want. And now I can't attack them because we're in some sort of truce I didn't agree with.

If they were my vassals, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't just have told me to fuck off when I demanded for them to become my vassals. I don't think the option would be there, either.

Judging by how according to you they're not your vassals, either it is a bug, or you unknowingly negotiated a white peace.
This has been my experience with Victoria 2 - I occupied half of Korea and then sued for white peace, thinking occupied territories would become mine. Instead they reverted back to Korea.
Pay attention really carefully to what you're agreeing to when you're negotiating peace.
As for disappearing fleets, as far as I know, if they have no way to reach your territory normally, they become exiled and arrive after a while at your border without your intervention.
