I have no idea.

I'm offended that Square Enix decided to put a good game out that I had to play from start to finish

Probably something like that. A risky move for sure after the catastrophe that was IW but it paid off.

I think Deus Ex: The Fall managed to top the legendary infamous Invisible War in terms of shittiness.

Well, The Fall is technically a mobile game, so it doesn't count. Calling a mobile game shitty would be redundant.

Fuck off, newfag. IW was fucking great. The only downside is small levels and simplified gameplay. Still it's plot was one of the best among deus ex games.

Plus if we're counting awful exports to non Mustard Race platforms as games, then Starcraft (N64) and Command & Conquer (PS1) are some of the worst games too.

Yes, Deus Ex is a good game. Great in some aspects even, but it's nowhere near the best game of all time. For that to be true, it simply has way too many flaws and its strong points are massively exaggerated. You guys are strictly memeing at this point.

True.

Contemporary reviewers and players noted that while Deus Ex used one of the hottest engines at the time, the graphics looked blocky and textures lacked details.

Where do you get your info from, dude? MGS came out two years prior to Deus Ex. By that time, the new idTech engine blew the Unreal engine out of the water in practically every regard and even on its own terms Deus Ex didn't make better use of it than most games using the engine.

>in fact how many games were doing what deus ex was?
A couple, most notably System shock.

>DUDE I CAN HACK THE DOOR OR GET IN THROUGH THE VENT SHAFT THIS GAME IS DEEP
What bothers me is how few modern games even try to reach the exceedingly low standard Deus Ex set. Like, it's not that hard to create several options on how to enter a building. Or to write and record five minutes of extra dialogue for the second bossfight you get by bypassing the first one. I get that there are reasons for games to be linear, but would it bankrupt the devs to give me some leg room on the path they set?
>>
I finished HR recently and hated the entire ending sequence.
It felt like things ended way to soon, and each of the ending was terrible and didn't even reflect on choices made during the game aside what button you pressed.
Why did Mass Effect 3 get shit on for its terrible endings but not HR?

Sad fact: the source of problems you seem to be having with the game is located in front of the screen, not on it.
You can play Deus Ex on realistic without a single implant or skill.
It is not really enjoyable except for the satisfaction of managing it, but you can.

Such a thought-out and detailed vision of the future, I can't help but be immersed. Deus Ex truly is a game for the ages.

>>
>>337113969

Hardly. Quoting, "textbook assault". It was a test. Interrogating was only a part of it. He did secure the statue at least. Hell, Paul "messed up an assassination attempt" right before that.
>his employer
He's not.
>>
HR doesn't carry the same appeal as the original. Its gameplay emphasizes routes and sneaking over the emergent scenarios which makes the original so interesting, not that the original didn't also have clear paths.
>>
>>337114536
Mistake 1: "A good track needs to be memorable."

Mistake 2: "I am an authority on music."

Mistake 3: "My memory and my taste is worth shit."
>>
>>337114782
For some reason I found HR incredibly forgettable. But Deus Ex is so fucking memorable. I remember almost every level in that game.
>>
>>337114747
>You sure showed me.

>Hardly.
He's an augmented agent tasked with capturing the terrorist leader, among other things. He simply ran away. That's a failure.
>He's not.
My bad, I was mistaking greyed Paul for Manderley at first. The point still stands.
>>
Surprisingly good for a modernized Deus Ex game, this could have been bad but it is now accepted as a part of the franchise even by the snobbiest DX fans.

That being said I'm sad that MD is just HR 2 instead of a new character and everything.
>>
>>337114792
The soundtrack is ok, it did a good job at setting the atmosphere, but nothing more

Alexander Brandon did a better job in my opinion
>>
>>337114519
Assuming all of your arguments at their strongest, you've meant Manderlay as employer implicitly from the start. Assuming you have any idea of what his reaction is, you've either done that senseless approach yourself, or infer that the game won't end with J.C. getting fired after that clip. The thing is, J.C. is much more than a disposable employee. What am I missing?
>>
>>337115171
>You sure showed me.
I did. An example.
>tasked with capturing
Not the case.
>He simply ran away. That's a failure.
As much of a failure as killing him or simply failing to interrogate. And, again, it was only a part of the mission.
>>337115205
>That being said I'm sad that MD is just HR 2 instead of a new character and everything.
Same, I didn't really want any more of this yellow cyberpunk. But I feel like it can still pay off, since it's closer to the first game in the timeline, and shit starts going down.

I loved this game, basically ran 2 or 3 all nighters in a row at uni playing it. Slept during the day.

Ruined my sleep pattern and my work schedule, but damn was it worth it.

I still have fond memories of those hours today, some of the most fun I've had in vidya and I didn't even expect to like it.

That OST too...
>>

>>

>>
>>337114792
Guy here who's a relatively succesful dj/producer - you can make all the fancy fucking sounds and noises you want, but a track needs to be memorable or catchy to resonate with a crowd. Yes even in fucking progressive metal or whatever avant-garde shit you listen to (I know I have).

A lot of the music on that soundtrack is soundscaping but I'm not sure I'd say it's always going somewhere. Sure it can be the right chords and the right scale, but in my opinion that does not always mean it's flowing towards the cohesive whole.
>>
>not doing pacifist stealth run
Batman playthrough best playthrough
>>
>>337119064
It's not meant to go somewhere all the time. It's a video game soundtrack, not a pop album.
>>
>>337119064
As someone claiming to have some substantial knowledge about music you'd know that making a track isn't the same as writing a soundtrack. A soundtrack's purpose is to enhance the scene, set the mood - all while blending in with the action on the screen without taking the spotlight. HR's score does that perfectly. It's not an easy listen for people who are not into ambient (aka plebs).

>>337119283
That's why I'm disagreeing with it being one of the best videogame soundtracks of all time. It's great, though I feel Neotokyo, which has a similar style, trumps it (despite there never being an in-game context for the tracks on that album), but I believe there's quite a few other videogame soundtracks that do a better job being memorable. Soundscapes aren't all that difficult to create.

>>337119497
I would argue it doesn't always enhance the scene, it just fits the scenes well, and has its place. The music I would say greatly enhance the trailers and truly lift experiencing them to a level above almost every other videogame trailer I've ever seen.

Better level design that doesn't rely on air vents so much. Less awkward boss fights (Western devs in general are not good at these). Harder challenge. Even on DE the game is too easy. Most importantly it needed a revamp of that whole regenerating Battery mechanic. Infinite one hit stealth takedowns should not be a thing.

Keep the things you listes. Keep the inentory management.

>>337121305
Not him, but the role of a DJ has changed so drastically in the last decades. Back in the days, DJs used to actually be knowledgable about music. They introduced the crowd to new music in an age where music television was slowly becoming irrelevant and the internet was gaining momentum.

Now DJs might as well be monkeys pushing a button. They play what the masses want to hear, not what they think the masses should hear. Not only are you creatively bankrupt, you're also fooling nobody by claiming you're "relatively" successful. There are thousands of you waiting in line each day to push that button.
