I just finished the game for the umpteenth time. I decided to go independant this time. Killing House was literally really sad, I felt legitimately horrible for doing it. I usually side with House, so maybe I feel attached to him. His obituary is perfect as well, just the right amount of self-fellatio and snobbiness I'd expect from the man. I might do an NCR run next, or possibly Legion. I've tried to do Legion before but the quest line is pretty shitty.

Do all endings require you to kill the BoS? I can't remember if the NCR ending does. I know the BoS are pretty shitty in general, but by the end of their questline I usually feel pretty attached to them. I wish they were a little more fleshed out, but they're not really the main focus of the game. I don't thin I've ever felt good about wiping them out either. At best it feels like I'm putting down an old, sick dog.

I think you don't understand that symbol anon. You have them all round the wrong way for the 2nd and 3rd line
>>
>>337094514
>>337094603
True you can spare them in the Yes Man end, but it's not a good idea. I don't have a problem with the BoS in NV, but I do understand why they need to be wiped out. If they're allowed to stay, tensions will continue in the Mojave between traders and travellers and the heavily armored rogue BoS knights dicking around and nabbing tech. It's basically like I said. I generally don't feel good about kill them, but I do understand why it needs to be done.

I was hoping there was an end where you got to actually form some sort of alliance between the BoS and one of the main game factions. The problem is the BoS doesn't need or want allies because it's hard to stop hundreds of soldiers in walking tank suits unless you're the NCR or Legion, and even then it's a fight you won't win easily.
>>
>>337094848
You can't be right, since EDE is the best companion in the game.
>>
>>337094369
Originally, House could be persuaded to leave BoS alone, but they scrapped that because then his ending would've been too good. They did record the voice lines and write scripts, and there's a mod that restores this piece of content floating around somewhere.

Lanius is a story, a myth

Everyone you ask about him gives you a different story about how he joined the Legion

JSawyer gives him a plasma pistol and makes plasma a lot harder to dodge

So I just stealth kill him every time
>>
>>337100191
i thought it was because the game was unfinished.
>>
>>337100550
With everything everyone says about him, it's far more likely that it's just Caesar trying to replace the legend of Joshua Graham, who had several decades to make a name for himself
>>
>>337100461
Are plasma shots in the face that deadly early on? I still face him down in every playthrough but I also usually have a good amount of purified water to heal myself at that point.
>>
>>337100934
Well JSawyer also reduces your base health a bunch so he's a massive step up in difficulty from the horde of geckos you've just murdered

Maybe it's because I didn't have stellar combat stats at the time and wasn't used to the new plasma but it was just easier to reload and stick a shovel up his ass

Many people hate Dead Mondy, but it's fun. It really attempts to do something interesting with the casino aspect of New Vegas but it does have some flaws

Honestly, I'd rate the DLC in this order

#1- Old World Blues.
#2- Dead Money
#3- Lonesome Road
#4- Honest Hearts
>>
So I just finished the Honest Hearts and Old World Blues on my miles build. I'm worried for Lonesome Road because of "Get Fucked City" or the overpass with 4 deathclaws. Any suggestions?

I'm pretty sure Lanius is just a symbol of military force, like the legion equivalent to Captain America. Ulysses mentions something similar if you ask for information if you spared him at the end of LR.
>>
>>337094369
>Do all endings require you to kill the BoS? I can't remember if the NCR ending does.

No. You just have to convince the BoS to support the NCR. Colonal Moore can't do shit without you so she can't do anything about it. She has to go along with how you solved it.
>>
>>337094369
>>337103785
That does require that you don't usurp the elder though. The other guy wont do it because he's just an asshole apparently.

I love the shotguns but they just don't get the job done if you are up against a heavy foe like a deathclaw. Otherwise they are awesome.

>>
>>337093953

You'll either love it or hate it. Dead money has a significant ramp up in the difficulty which I actually enjoyed because I had to think about my next move but will turn off a lot of people. I have to admit there were times that Dead Money pissed me off royally and there are some pretty bullshit deaths waiting for you. Health items become both rare and essential. It's the only time in the game I ever bothered to use a stimpak. Still I enjoy the feeling of accomplishment I get when I finally beat something that frustrates me and the story was had some great characters. I normally try to get good endings on my first run but I fucked up with Dean Domino. After seeing his ending I was pretty content with it.
>>
>>337095804
>Did you let go /v/?

I didn't even get that far. I got pissed off at the stupid, boring enemies that you're supposed to "sneak past" but can't because the map design is a maze of trenches. Specifically the part when you back track after setting off the grand opening. The enemies respawned for no good reason and I had enough.

It wasn't too difficult, just tedious and boring.

>You know they don't die unless you severe a limb right? They go down to zero health but they get back up. You can fight through them fine if you know what you're doing.

I know. I didn't have a problem killing them but even that is tedious because they take more punishment.

They walk around like goobers, take time to kill and then I had to clear the area twice. It's annoying.

I think the characters are the only good thing about DM. I wish my scarred baldfu remained mute though. The interaction was so much more interesting when she couldn't speak. I know that it was probably a result of time constraints but it irritates me to no end.

>Ugly
This is a fair point.

>enemies walk cycle and highly damaging weapons.
This, I feel, adds more to the supernatural aspect of the DLC, as they walk like inhuman creatures. The damage output is high, but you can begin to overcome that by finding better armor and crafting/finding new weapons

>same style of enemies
I do wish there's was a little variety past holograms and ghosts, but it's not bad imp

>map
I thought the map did a good job by being maze like. It made the sense of discovery feel greater, and hid some really good shit in places you wouldn't expect.

Especially considering the game says you should be a high level, I feel that a lot of the issues are resolved through going in somewhat prepared, knowing what's about to come.

McNamara isn't going to change anything. He agrees to a truce with NCR because he's smart enough to realize that if they take the Dam there will be nothing stopping them from finishing what they started at HELIOS.

The only real difference between him and Hardin is that McNamara is slightly less inflexible. He's still a dyed in the wool quasi-religious extremist who believes following a set of thoroughly antiquated ideals is the best thing to do. He just has the sense to not invite a curb stomping from a militarily superior enemy.

THEY'RE MULTIPLYIN'
>>
>>337106268

It's a terrible experience. They wanted to make some kind of resident evil shit on gamebryo, and the layout is like something from fallout 3's metro sections.

Fucktons of really small areas, with loading sections everywhere, shitty enemies that aren't supposed to be able to see you, but can, and stupid 100 skill checks for tons of things that you'd not have 100 points in at the recommended level.

I do also appreciate that they give you virtually no weapons at all that are fun, regardless of what you've specialized in, but they especially shit on people who play explosives.

No, I don't want a stupid bear trap fist.
No, I don't want a spear made of knives.
No, I don't want frag mines that have twice the weight for no reason.
No, I don't want the fucking holorifle. I want a plasma pistol. Is that too much? Can I have a plasma pistol, Chris? No?

Well, fuck you, too.

On top of how shit it is, the pretentious message and awful characters just kill it. The only redeeming part is Dean, which is very ironic, as Dean is quite clearly one of the vilest, most evil, terrible, and outright selfish pieces of human garbage ever to walk the fallout world.

Shit like Christine gets old and annoying very quickly, and god meming about old world gold every 40 seconds is also annoying. It's nice that they give you two weapons for him, too! A single sledgehammer and some frag grenades! Very spicy, Chris.

That would have ruined him though. His entire arc is about him struggling to cope with his survivor's guilt by first killing everything that threatens him and what he perceives as good, and then trying to nurture other survivors before becoming this legend. He's a counterpoint to Graham in that respect. But by having him be alive during the game you end up with two of the same character running around going through the exact same development (assuming you talk his down at the end).

I'll never understand how Bethesda couldn't implement fucking ammo crafting into 4. Why was that a feature that needed to be modded in? It's the same fucking engine isn't it? All they had to was add a stupid 'ammo' bench like all the other crafting benches in the game. Could have probably ripped it straight from NV's reloading bench model. Or, the fucking companion wheel so you can actually somewhat control your dipshit AI companions? Or utilizing DT instead of their DR system so that Power Armor can't get destroyed from fucking .38 caliber pipe guns? Fallout 4 is a terrible RPG but it's just astounding how they managed to fuck up even little details that would have made the fps gameplay more tolerable.

but worse is the gunplay just sucks. that's why we need fo4 engine. f:nv with fo4 graphic improvements and shooting feel would be the perfect game
>>
>>337109762

Bethesda hates Obsidian with a fiery passion.

A shitty little studio, with less than two years of time, managed to string together an all-star voice cast, make a far superior script to anyone Emil will ever shit out, capture the fallout feel perfectly, reinvent and address a fuckton of legacy fallout shit that never really worked properly (rush for power armor? power armor is only used by two largely dead factions, and there's better or equivalent protection in other armors. Can't supply gun X with ammo because only merchant Z sells it, and only ever in small amounts? Break down other ammo and make your own - at a cost in raw materials. Energy weapons are trash, then suddenly OP as balls? Introduce a bunch of low-tier ones that are worth it, and transition to the big meat. Guns very samey? Make them all different, so there's no true 'one gun to rule them all) and close out the actual fallout trilogy.

They allegedly weren't even paid the agreed sum of money, because they missed Bethesda's lofty metacritic goal by one whole point.

Then fallout 4 would go on to get 1 less point than NV years later. Does that mean Bethesda withheld Todd's yearly bonus for once?
>>
>>337110676

>There’s a distant sound that can be heard throughout your time with New Vegas. Quieter than the cheery 1930s pop hits that warble from your radio, quieter even than the chirps of night-time insects, or the long gasps of wind blowing across the wasteland. It is the sound of Obsidian phoning this game in. I’m talking long distance, reversed charges, not-giving-a-fuck.

>This isn’t another Vampire: Bloodlines, where an ambitious game’s been left unfinished, because there is no ambition here. Imagine for a second that the above problems didn’t come about because of a lack of time, but because of carelessness, and apply that carelessness to the entire game- most importantly, to the quest design and the dialogue. Now you’re getting close to imagining New Vegas

>It’s just that this is absolutely not the classic that Fallout 1 and 2 unquestionably were, and it’s also not the bold, bright reinvention that Fallout 3 was. It’s just… here, offering more Fallout. Do you want some more Fallout? If so, New Vegas can provide, so long as you don’t mind your every hour with it being laced with some small amount of disappointment. That is, unless you haven’t played a Fallout game before, but in that case you’re better off with the Game of the Year edition of Fallout 3.

>According to Joshua Sawyer, the quest was inspired by his experiences collecting Tootsie Roll Pop wrappers as a boy due to a false rumor that sending 100 special wrappers bearing illustrations of a boy dressed as a Native American shooting an arrow at a star would yield a special prize. The story that Festus tells upon completion of the quest is based upon a story that was sent out to children who sent in wrappers and it shares many common elements. A terminal shows that the rumor about a prize was not created by the Sunset Sarsaparilla Company, and was only used to continue the increase in profits that was started by the rumors.

When will this shit die already? It's blatantly false.

New Vegas has a larger map, more locations, and while the game indeed has wast sections of nothingness (it's a fucking wasteland, what do you expect) you are always going to find something unique eventually. It's called exploration.

Meanwhile Fallout 3 also has wast sections of nothingness as well, but nothing in it is unique. It's all just metro tunnels with ghouls/raiders or small ruined DC sections with supermutants/raiders.

There's shitposting on both sides. If someone tries to talk about Fallout 3 or 4 on /v/, the NV fans always without fail try to bring up NV and how it's the superior game and derail discussion. These NV threads are constant and unending, always hitting bump limit and should definitely be on /vg/. The only reason it isn't is because the people who post here know they can't stay in their own little circlejerk if they actually go the general designed for all fallout games.

Again, not true. There are only a few neat locations and the rest are either boring or simply exist because "omg look how bizarre and wacky this is xDD!!! this is what fallout is about, right? :^)"

Fallout 3's world doesn't feel like a world, it doesn't make any sense. It feels like a theme park and not an actual living world.

And the faces of the NPCs are okay and have high textures, but yeah, they are pretty robotic.
Maybe I will try NCR3 in the future or if I can unfuck my save after I delete the mod.

Fallout 3 has unique weapons though. Fallout 3 has a bunch of stand alone quests all over the map though. Fallout New Vegas has locations that don't have any significance at all, not even various loot though. What are you saying that isn't based on personal preference for New Vegas? One thing I noticed is how New Vegas favors all weapon play styles at all times.

For example, take a look how many of each category of weapon each DLC adds.

Then take a look on how many unarmed weapons all F3 DLC adds combined.
>>
>>337125835
Same texture, different damage and AP costs. Is that not unique or is it only unique if you get a super special paintjob on your weapon?

And quantity =/= quality. Fallout 3 has much fewer quests than New Vegas but it doesn't suffer the same problem with New Vegas where alot of quests are fetch quests and you have to go through tons and tons of loading screens or have quite as many quests that can be bugged out.

>Fallout 3 has unique weapons though
Barely. All I can think of is Lincoln reapater and all improvised weapons.
I don't consider simple stat changes to be unique wepaons, since I could shit dozens of them in a minute in GECK if I wanted to.

NV on the other hand has an unique version with different model/texture for nearly every gun it the game, and has a lot more weapons in general.

>Fallout 3 has a bunch of stand alone quests all over the map though
Not nearly as much as NV and most of the is pretty shallow.

>Fallout New Vegas has locations that don't have any significance at all, not even various loot though
Yeah, a few. F3 has dozens of locations that have no significance at all, and sorry but slapping random loot generators all over the place doesn't count as good design.

>What are you saying that isn't based on personal preference for New Vegas?
Pretty much all of it.

>New Vegas having more quests doesn't mean Fallout 3 had no quests at all.
Never said that.

>The part of the map in New Vegas that isn't the actual town is just caves and desert roads
Most of those caves have backstories and/or unique loot, different enemies, etc.

You are lucky to run itno something different than raider/gholu/supermutant in F3.

>Any ruins you find are just burned out gas stations and food shops
I remember a few. They certainly don't make up the majority of the game.
>>
>>337126220

Slight changes to numerical values are hardly making anything unique.

Those wepaons rarely have any backstories, too. They are not uniue, they are just another generic version of the same item.

>Fallout 3 has much fewer quests than New Vegas but it doesn't suffer the same problem with New Vegas where alot of quests are fetch quests
You sure we played the same game?

But you're right, 3 doesn't remotely have anything like that
>>
Damn, the game is piss easy with project Nevada. The mod is pretty good, but the bullet time is too op.
>>
>>337126398
Modding in unique weapons isn't the same as having base game uniques. And stat changes distinguish uniques from standards weapons. Weapon skins is a problem in Fallout 3 but that doesn't mean there no unique weapons.

>Pretty shallow
Fallout 3 quests are all pretty deep, all at least having multiple ways to finish and all able to be done or done by certain roleplays. No less than New Vegas though New Vegas obviously has more quests overall.

>Dozens of locations with no significance
The only locations that come to mind are the satellite array sites that really had nothing there and those were much more interesting than the throw away locations in New Vegas.

>Pretty much all of it
Nah

>Most of those caves have backstories
They really don't. They are just loot tunnels for the most part. If they don't have quests attached to them, they didn't have anything of value or worth exploring for.

>Don't make up the majority of the game
That's like half of the map. And they spliced in some cool places here and there but it is not that fun to explore comparing it to Fallout 3. It is really bland for the most part.

The locations and quests you usually find unique weapons from in Fallout 3 are usually pretty interesting and clearly have a backstory or written dialogue about them somewhere. weapon skins don't suddenly make weapons super rare or cool. It's the stat bonuses that matter overall.

I just replayed New Vegas for a no kill run. Really fun btw. And I can say undoubtedly that the latter part of the game had a shit ton of fetch quests. That was really the load to go through before the endgame.

If we're talking Gun Runner's arsenal you're right. If you're talking base game to base game, you're wrong. New Vegas unique weapons don't all have this incredibly different experience to using regular standard guns. Weapon skins don't change overall gameplay.

Yes, barely.

Weapons in New Vegas have different skins, different stats, pre-set amount of mods already attached and often sport mods that can't be acquired for the base model.

They are not. A few were trying to and turned out ok but those were exceptions.

Fallout 3 doesn't have mods. The uniques obviously wouldn't either.

The quests were all deep and usually pretty different from one another. That pic you posted doesn't prove anything. That's a dialogue option that can match a person's skills with what they might say. That isn't an indication of everything the game does in terms of allowing freedom in gameplay.

They were not. I dunno why you are still repeeating this while it's not true and everyone who played Fallout 3, liked it or not, know that.

>That pic you posted doesn't prove anything.
It literally proves that not all quests in F3 are "pretty deep". Literally.

>That's a dialogue option that can match a person's skills with what they might say
If you take those away, there is not much roleplaying left (yeah there are a few options here and there, few and far between) in the whole survival guide quest, which has to be the longest side quest in the entire F3.

>That isn't an indication of everything the game does in terms of allowing freedom in gameplay
Well I got more.

Base game of Fallout 3 has exactly 14 main quests, 17 sidequests and around 37 unmarked quests that I;m not going to talk about because it;s going to take too long.

Main quests:
#1: Literally no choices beyond SPECIAL selection, it's a tutorial.

#2: Another tutorial. You can piss of Butch and act like a dick to your dad. Nice.

#3:Last of the tutorial quests. You get to do a test that will determine your skills, but in the end it doesn't fucking matter because you are going to assign them yourself anyway.

#4: You can act like a dick to Amata and kill her Dad, which will slightly (but not substantially) change one of the quests later in the game.

#5: You look for Dad. You can get info about him from Moriarty in afew different ways, but none of the changes the outcome and you can't get the infro from anyone else.

You then talk to ThreeDog. You can either do his fetch quests or skip it with a speech check.

(this is actually something that really bothers me about 3. Speech checks are mainly used to skip quests rather than get more content.)

Then you get to the memorial and listen to tapes.

Overall, a few skillchecks that don't change anything and that's it.

#6: Already talked about it as part of #5.

There were few quests where you could actually anything very evil. How you roleplayed determined how quests would end. What you actually got in terms of karma didn't matter because there could be four different endings to quests where about three different outcomes could actually net you good karma. Different dialogue and how you felt your character should act made the real difference.

I'm not easily impressed, it's just that impressive.

I don't think anybody here has actually played Fallout 3 for very long. Everyone seems to not know alot about the game.

The dialogue isn't as good as New Vegas. Fair enough. But the dialogue is all meaningful to the roleplay. Everything the PC chooses to build on is there to be exploited in dialogue and combat.

>Talking about tutorial being a tutorial
That's literally all the vault was. A tutorial. If you didn't like the tutorial, fine. That doesn't mean it's indicative of what the rest of the game is. It's just introducing the player to the gameplay.
>>

#7: You talk to Lee and follow the quest marker to Vault 112.

That's it.

#8: Get out of simulation. Now this one actually let's you roleplay just a little bit, but suprise, it doesn't change anything.

It's the usual "goody-two-shoes or dick" dilemma. Was fun though.

#9: Clear the purifier from mutants, run around the whole purifier like a retard (basically a fetch quest) watch dad die.

Dad can also call you on nuking a whole city, in which case he will tell you how dissapointed he is.

#10:Get to the Vault 87. No roleplaying. Also contains Little Lamplight, which got to be the most retarded and out of place location in the entire game.

#11: This one is actually a sidequest, but will be mandatory if you don't skip it with a speech check.

You have to rescue a few kids from Paradise falls. I admit there was a few clever alternate ways to go about it and it did support roleplaying, even though again it doesn't change shit.

One might wonder why, of all quests, this one is actually the most likely to be skipped.

#12:Get GECK. Just a big dungeon, no roleplaying.

#13: Get out of Enclave base. A few checks, not much roleplaying. You get to tell the President to kill himself though, which was ridiculous to the point of being funny I guess.

#14: Retake the purifier. You get to decide if a Autumn will be spared or not, and finally, you get to make a decison that actually matters.

You are presented with 4 option:

1. Goody-two-shoes: Kill yourself to save the world. Which doesn't make any sense if you have radiation-immune companions with you, but whatever. Fixed in the DLC I guess.

2: Kinda-Dick: Let Sarah kill herself.

3: Dick: Contaminate the water with FEV. One might wonder why owuld anyone do this for reasons other than being a dick, but whatever

3: Totally-Dick: Do nothing and let the whole place blow up. No comment

Summary
Out of 14 quests, only a handful had any ways to roleppaly *at all*, while only one (final) quest had consequences.

You're describing these quests in a way that makes me misunderstand what you think of rolepalying. What do you consider roleplaying?

In New Vegas, once you reach the strip in Ring a ding ding (a quest that can be accomplished by just killing a bunch of people, no roleplaying) then kill Benny and take the chip. Make your way to cottonwood and activate the securitrons, clearing that dungeon, once again no roleplaying and leaving and psosbly destrouying the legion base with caeser, once again no roleplaying. The pivotal quest of New Vegas, the one that acts as the catalyst and backbone to the rest of the game, has no roleplaying. Crazy, crazy.

Side Quests:

#1 "Agatha's Song": Get a violin.
Fetch quest. Literally.

You are presented with 2 choices:
1: Goody-two-shoes: Give the violin to Agatha, get good boy points and opportunity to hear her playing it.

2: Dick: Sell the violin. You get caps.

Overall, a fetch quest with 2 usual "good/bad boy" outcomes. Not deep, at all.

#2: "Big Trouble in Big Town": Deal with the supermutant attacks in Big Town.

This quest has barely any roleplaying, but it does have two stages:

1: You need to rescue 2 kids. Depending on how many of them you manage to save, you get 200/300/500 caps.

2: Either repel the attack or ignore it. Classic "good/bad boy" dilemma. Ignoring the attack doesn't do anything. If you decide to repel it, you get 4 different skill checks to help the residents, and after you succeed, you get free repair/medical services.

Overall, not much in terms of roleplaying, but hey it has 4 skill check so I guess it's something.

I'm not going to wait for you to finish writing all this bullshit. I'll take you post by post and I expect you to continue then rebuttal when you're done now keep as you were.

You can go through Fallout 3 without meeting Doctor Li or talking to Moriarty before catching up to dear old dad so how is that a point for New Vegas? The main quest branches into questlines that are on in the same. If you do enough before making it to that part of the game, everything becomes a fetch quest where you either kill a faction or you get the to say some generic dialogue about supporting you. The khan faction might be the most different in that regard but it still doesn't mean very much overall.

You can just killer Agatha, give her the violin then kill her later, sell the violin and then kill her or ignore, all valid endings to her role in the game.

In Big trouble, how are you not roleplaying when you talk to the denizens and either help or not help with their dilemma. You can rescue Red and not even get an award or go to the town if you so choose.

>You can go through Fallout 3 without meeting Doctor Li or talking to Moriarty before catching up to dear old dad so how is that a point for New Vegas?
Because in New Vegas, at one point the story branches into mutually exclusive queslines.

>The main quest branches into questlines that are on in the same.
Yeah, I totally remember killng Kimball when working for NCR and making a truce with Kings while working for Caesar. Totally.

> If you do enough before making it to that part of the game, everything becomes a fetch quest where you either kill a faction or you get the to say some generic dialogue about supporting you.
>if you do all the non-fetch quests, everything that remains is fetch quests!
Well aren't you a smart one.

Not to mention dealing with the factions is not the same for every questline.

>You can just killer Agatha
That's dumb.

>give her the violin then kill her later
That's not even dumb, that doesn't make any sense unless you are min-maxing.

>sell the violin and then kill her
That's also simply dumb.

>all valid endings to her role in the game
No those are not valid ending, at all. All those thing are fucking stupid and there is no motivation to do any of those whatsoever, unless you are just fucking stupid.

Shit, at this point I don't even know if I need to continue. You are literally arguing that giving someone a violin only to kill him and sell it is "pretty deep rolepalying".
>>
>>337133368
Well it's pretty clear that you're going to ignore most of the stuff I say unless it helps with your argument so i'm just going to wrap up your post.

The questlines are objectively not mutually exclusive since, while you have to branch at some point, all the quests tie into each other and whether you're helping one faction or working over another, they all follow you anyway and what faction you join is based pretty much on a couple lines of dialogue that are not very distinguishable from another amongst the factions.

Killing Kimbal or not killing him is not much different from going down a good karma path or bad karma path. It impacts certain factions in either a good or bad way and who you're riding with encapsulates that.

The truce with the kings is a different facet of joining the NCR but only if you choose to actually do that. You could be made to deal with the kings in another way if your actions up to that point disallow you to make the truce. This is still tied in with my point about the fetch quests. All you're really doing is dealing with a faction with dialogue or combat. No roleplaying.

You can't say a person's way of playing the game is stupid and dismiss it. Anybody can play any kind of way and that's the point of roleplaying. The fact that you wouldn't do it just means you wouldn't play that sort of role or think to anyway. A PC's motivations are whatever the player deems them to be even in the framework of the story. That's the point of customization.

You can leave this argument. You didn't really have any good points anyway.

>The questlines are objectively not mutually exclusive since, while you have to branch at some point, all the quests tie into each other
They don't.

You don't even get the quest about Kings when working fro House, you don't need to blow up Brotherhood when working for NCR, you don't even get the quest with Omertas when working for NCR etc.

Those questlines are objectively mutually exclusive. They may share a few quests, but they are vastly different from each other.

>Killing Kimbal or not killing him is not much different from going down a good karma path or bad karma path.
Entirely different skill checks and action you take.

Entirely different interactions with certain NPCs.

Entirely different consequences.

>The truce with the kings is a different facet of joining the NCR but only if you choose to actually do that.
No Anon, other questlines literally don't have that quest. At all. It's always a different facet no matter what you choose, play the fucking game.

>All you're really doing is dealing with a faction with dialogue or combat
>No roleplaying
Roleplaying is about making choices based on what kind of character you play. This quest fits the definition of good roleplaying because it allows you to make a lot of different choices based on what kind of character you play as, both in terms of skills and views.

>You can't say a person's way of playing the game is stupid and dismiss it.
I'm not dismissing it, but it is stupid.

>Anybody can play any kind of way and that's the point of roleplaying.
Yeah, but if the amount of choices the game gives you is low, it's not a good roleplaying game.

You can kill all the NPCs in New Vegas as well. In fact, you can't do that in Fallout 3, so New Vegas is superior in that regard.

>A PC's motivations are whatever the player deems them to be even in the framework of the story. That's the point of customization.
The customization is F3 is shallow. You can't argue that killing someone or not is deep

roleplaying because that's always an option.

I mean, it's actually not in F3, which only makes it more shallow.

F3 has very shallow roleplaying. We already came to a conclusion that all the motivation and choices your character is given are either good/bad/stupid, and I think the ending of F3 reflects that perfectly as well.

I know it sounds strange when I type it out, but I don't necessarily dislike the BoS in NV. Yes, they're dicks, and yeah, they kinda treat you like shit, but so do the Boomers at first. That's just kind of how they are. Eventually they do grow to accept and welcome you.

Wiping them out, to me, feels wrong in a way. They're not like the fiends or powder gangers, who seem to only exist to fuck shit up. The BoS does have ideals and goals, even if they're not in-line with what other factions want. They have a vision for the future, and work towards it. Because of all that, literally slaughtering them just feels wrong to me.

So while I can understand why House wants them eradicated, it doesn't make the action any more enjoyable.

Mutually exclusive would mean that a quest could not be done depending on your actions and the quest would be a consequence rather than a apart of any sequence. I was agreeing with you that the King's quest was mutually exclusive to the NCR. I was disagreeing with you that it had meaningful roleplay in that quest. Every other quest however can be done no matter what questline you eventually go down and you can hold off on doing anything specific to a faction of your choice until very late in the game. My proof would be my recent play of the game (that was really fun btw). Siding with Mr. House mad e no difference between anything i might have done with NCR besides the king quest and legion questline. The questlines weren't meaningful different which is ok but it means they weren't mutually exclusive.

Killing Kimball or NOt killing kimball involved alot of different scenarios that you could go through as a player and I'm not debating that. It wasn't meaningful different to doing a quest for karma points. How people view in reputation is alot like karma since people view you certain way based on your actions.

If you don't' get alot of rolpelay opportunity in Fallout 3, you sure as shit don't in New Vegas either because it call comes down to combat and dialogue. Roleplaying is based mainly on how the PC plays rather than what the game offers in skill checks. Skill checks != roleplaying at least not necessarily.

You can kill most everyone in Fallout 3. You can reduce rivet city to a ghost town and if you have the DLC, blow the brotherhood faction away.

Killing is always an option and can't be separated from roleplaying. What you do in interaction with npcs is apart of roleplaying. And Fallout 3 has all that.

Calling character alignment and player decision stupid is being dismissive. You're implying that it's not something someone would do in normal gameplay and you're wrong.

The difference between Boomers and BoS is that Booomers act in self-defense and for their own preservation and do not go out of their way to fuck shit up, while BoS is self-righetous and aggressive.

BoS are nothing more than raiders with excuses.

I'm pretty sure the regular LMG has a higher damage

>BoS are nothing more than raiders with excuses.

The same could be said about the NCR or the Legion.

No fallout game is worth playing past the first one.

>Every other quest however can be done no matter what questline you eventually go down
Again:
Can't make a truce with Brotherhood in House/Caesar questline

Can't assasinate Kimball unless working for Caesar

Can't fight Lanius in Legion questline

Can't fight Olivier in NCR questline

And more. Not all quests are mutually exclusive but a lot of them are and endings/ certain consequences are as well.

>You can reduce rivet city to a ghost town
Shrapnel/Lee/Harkness would like to have a word with you.

>and if you have the DLC, blow the brotherhood faction away.
This is actually a good think to bring up since it has to do with me talking about "stupid" choices being such a big thing in F3.

You see, there is next to no motivation to nuke BoS. Like, think about it for a moment. It would make perfect sense to nuke BoS if you could actually side with Enclave, but you can't.

You are allowed to nuke BoS after you voluntarily help the defeat the remnants of the Enclave. I'm not saying that you couldn't have any motive to do that and it's a bad thing to have such a choice, but the whole thing is terribly designed.

>Killing is always an option and can't be separated from roleplaying. What you do in interaction with npcs is apart of roleplaying. And Fallout 3 has all that.
To a very limited degree. Being able to kill someone is basic stuff.

>Calling character alignment and player decision stupid is being dismissive.
It's not, I'm not saying it's not a viable option. I'm saying that the game doesn't give you any rasonable motive to do that so you are left with either sheer stupidity/being evil for sake of being evil.

And that can always be a motive no matter what. So if otions that are always present no matter what are the only ones, it's not really deep.
>>
>>337138931
I don't support either of those.

NCR isn't too bad as it's not wholy based on agression towards others, but they seroiusly need to fuck off and keep to themselves and people who are actually willing to become a aprt of them instead of trying to annex everything.

Legion are raiders pretty much by definition. Their ultimate goal might be noble and all but in short term not so much.

I usually go House with maximum support to NCR.

You're confusing quests and questlines with quest specific decisions. Obviously you can't fight someone from your own faction because you'd alienate that faction. That has nothing to do with quests being largely the same no matter who you eventually side with. Who you recruit and who you kill might be different but the quests leading up to that point are all the same. Like I said, you have to branch eventually but it can be so late to the point where you've done all the questlines and just seeing which faction is going to end up shooting at you.

Three npcs out of a town of dozens doesn't mean you haven't massacred rivet city. Essential npcs suck but you can kill so many people besides them that it almost means nothing for them to still live.

Terrible design or throwing a bone to the omnicidal. It really just depends on how you see the decision to kill the brotherhood. There's no reason to kill anyone in these games since the only person that ever matters is yourself. It's all about the role.

You're saying the roleplaying is basic and there's for the lulz levels of evil in the game but you're admitting that there is roleplay in Fallout 3. Just not up to your standard which is to say it's not to your preference. That doesn't make Fallout 3 a bad game and it doesn't make everything you say about Fallout 3 true. It just means you have an opinion.

But I never said there isn't.

>That doesn't make Fallout 3 a bad game
Never said that either.

The whole discussion was about NV being superior in the aspect of roleplaying, not FAllout 3 having no roleplaying at all.

I'm sorry if i misread you. But i have read in this thread, Fallout 3 has no roleplaying, shallow roleplaying and basic to mediocre roleplaying. I still disagrree that roleplaying in New Vegas is superior to Fallout 3.
>>
>>337140978
Well I'm getting tired so lets agree to disagree. I think roleplaying in F3 is pretty shallow/simplistic when compared to NV, but still beats F4 by a long shot.

>>337141374
for sure
I wish Fallout 4 wasn't a disappointment.

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Honest Hearts was awesome.

Dead Money was absolute shit tho.
>>
>tfw you've beat NV so many times no amount of mods or mental fuckery on my behalf will ever bring me back the joy of when I was playing it

I'd feel forlorn but lately everything in my life is shit so at least I can have my fond rememberence.

Also Embrace of The Mantis King! is the non projectile weapon and you're a shitfag if you disagree(unless you like Figaro, in which case - great taste)
>>
>>337093953
Dead Money seperates the men from the boys.

I finished it and went to sleep angry and exhausted, but the next morning I realized this was the most fun I've had with a game for a long time.
>>
>>337142028
Honest Hearts was shit outside of graham, the "survivalists" caches/lairs and I guess giant mantids and yao guai was cool - but otherwise the only appeal I felt for HH was it was a breath of fresh air compared to the mojave. Clean drinking water everywhere, but deadly tribals.

DM is only shit if you have a bad attention span or don't like thinking when you play video games. I'll admit I hated the projections because I too hate that which I cannot kill but hey, it forced me to play methodically and intelligently so in this respect DM is my favorite.

at least those 3 quests have you interacting with interesting groups of characters or an interesting location. Fallout 3 has very few of either.

>tfw you beat NV once and a second playthrough won't bring me back the joy of when I was first playing it

My biggest mistake was playing with my first character for too long. By the time he reached level 40 he was a skyrim type OP killing machine who has good standing with everyone but Legion and was good at everything (every skill above 50). I tried a second run but I feel like I've already seen every weapon, done every quest and worn every outfit.

Make an entirely different build.

>who has good standing with everyone but Legion
Go Legion

>and was good at everything (every skill above 50).
Mod the game to be harder
And generally just mod the fuck out of it.

>I tried a second run but I feel like I've already seen every weapon, done every quest and worn every outfit.
Improbable.
>>
>>337143223
Just me but after I rape a game like I have NV, I installed J SAWYER mod and reserved myself to only using light armors and 2 main weapons and a melee/dagger.

Breathes life into the game for me. Problem with 3 and NV and probably most bethesda games is by a certain level the game is no longer challenging or fun - so we're forced to improvise.

I know fo4 was shit but I had much more fun playing a light combat armored character who never used power armor.

Because I need my deathclaw and sentry bot encounters to be lethal.

You can kill Kimball as independent, but you're not supposed to
>>
>>337103449
The weapons in this game are so beautiful, I hate how ugly as shit they are in F4.
>>
>>337143726
Not comparable to the Legion quest though, entirely different conditions, checks, options etc.

>reserved myself to only using light armors and 2 main weapons and a melee/dagger
Feels better to get Project Nevada/git gud at GECK and mod the carry weight formula.

The usual is 150+10*STR. I changed it to 0+15*STR.

So if I want to actually have enough ammo, food, water and have enough space for some loot, I got to use lighter armors and lighter/less weapons.
