Waiting until 3 AM to find out some news was always fun, not knowing if the update was gonna reveal something minor like the Deflicker screen or something huge like a newcomer. I don't know. Brawl's trailer was great (specially the Snake part, no one, I mean, NO ONE saw that coming), but the New challenger incoming videos on Sm4sh were great. I got pumped up with Palutena's one because of the Link-Pit battle; the Pac-Man one was sublime (and, somewhere in the space-time continuum made my 5 year old self really, really happy), the Captain Falcon/Lucina one was good to. And even the Bowser Junior one, even if it came when everyone knew he was in -since the game had already been released- sent chills down my spine, with all the koopalings appearing from behind the mountain.
I loved Brawl's trailer and the period between it and its release (I still remember Japan Tiem here, and the Japan Time Time column), but Sm4sh trailers and hype in here were great too.

In Geno's case, it's probably Square Enix's fault. Cloud alone likely jaded Sakurai's team, and Geno as a fully fleshed out fighter atop that probably exceeded what Nintendo was comfortable with spending on SE.

You know, I'm really interested to see how Smash 4 modding grows. I honestly think it has the potential to surpass Brawl's modding scene in terms of crazyiness.
The game just seems much more flexible and fluid, most likely because the game was designed to support DLC. Brawl wasn't, and that's why the Project M team had to do all this crazy special coding nonsense to give us more stages, more characters, more alt costumes. But much of that stuff is so much easier in Smash 4. For example, I just recently installed this Jumpman color for Mario without replacing any of his other pre-existing alts. How disappointed were you guys once you got to play brawl? For me it was like a SMACK in the face.
I was so god damn hyped, I even had 2 friends come to my house to stay the night in order to play Brawl all night. After about an hour of brawl we just played melee the rest of the night and I haven't turned on my Wii ever since. Not even trying to troll, I had never been so shocked at the final quality of a game up until that night. Now I NEVER hype up games.

Make her main gimmick having two sets of specials/smashes/tilts/jab; neutral special is swapping from dual blades to dual guns and vice versa. Blades have shit-all reach but better knockback and recovery (ie Shadowstrike up-b is your only real recovery option off stage) while guns have good reach but narrow range and better mobility (ie Sliding Slinger is useful for positioning and doesn't put you into free-fall but recovery becomes awful). Both have their good sides but clear downsides so you have to be constantly changing between them. Maybe add some Pokemon Trainer stamina bullshit to replicate secondary cooldowns.
Final Smash is piloting a Skell because that's something everyone can enjoy regardless of whether you like Xenoblade or not.

a lot of people also didn't opt to get a wii u which further diminished the hype

Sakurai simply felt like making Lucina and Dark Pit clones instead of just costumes because.
