It isn't amazing looking, but Warcraft has never gotten the gear formula just right. It was, at the very least, charming. And you got a very genuine sense of aesthetic progression as you leveled up and got yourself set gear, since your appearance became more uniform.

This is a bit subjective. Obviously the mechanics for the bosses were far simpler than they were in later expansions, but the resource management was at its peak here. Healing and tanking, particularly. Cooldown usage. Making sure the party survived. Utility spells. The bosses had minor effects to inconvenience you, but that's because if you weren't paying attention to your character and party, you were fucking dead.
The mechanics in future games grew more complex, but that's all the game was really about. You would master a set rotation and basically play a minigame in every raid. It wasn't about actual fighting anymore so much as it was dishing out damage and doing whatever minutiae Blizzard programmed into that particular fight.

Leveling in Warcraft was genuinely challenging. If you fucked up and aggro'd certain groups of mobs or picked off more than you could chew, you were dead. The game didn't forgive your fuckups, you just fucking ate it. And the zones were long and distinct enough that you got a genuine sense of progression going from one to another. You were exploring a fleshed out world.

I played it solo for a week only to get to the early 20s in level. I watched my sister get to level twenty is less than a day in current wow
They nerfed to fuck out of the experience system
Rate my Warrior.
They also nerfed they gray weapons. I had a two hand axe or hammer that was better than most of the green and blue weapons for the same level
