In reality RPG in gaming generally refers to early RPGs such as Dragon Quest which attempted to emulate the combat systems of pen and paper RPGs. It basically means a game in which stats are somehow involved. It never really meant anything to do with character creation, dialogue choices or a 'good story'. Those are somewhat related to ACTUAL rpgs, but not rpgs in how the word was originally used in a video game context.
As I said though, today it has basically lost all meaning and in my view is pointless to even use unless you add a specification such as SRPG or CRPG or whatever.

I think story wise it doesn't really matter. They do recommend you be level 30 though due to the difficulty and they don't really hold your hand in any way, so if you're still learning the ropes you'd have a tough time.

They're not part of the main game and can be played independently, but there were a few connections to the main plot once you progress far enough in HoS. It's best to play them after you complete the main game because the content is locked behind high levels, though there are options to skip right ahead to the expansions with levels and appropriate loot.

Yes it is. A POI is the ?s you get on the map from boards and characters talking, and almost every time you go to one its a hidden treasure. Hidden treasure "do" have quests attached but considering this has a full new region to fill and a main story to populate I think 90 quests will be pretty fleshed out. Maybe not all of them multiple stage, maybe some single stage stuff with some dialog with an NPC and 1 objective and its over.

As cool as it can be to slaughter enemies several levels under you it really makes you lose your edge not to mention there's no tension when am enemy does literally only 12 damage to you.
