I'm not really into all this headcanon stuff, but it's part of the charm. The lore is made this way on purpose.
Some will say that fromsoft are lazy or pretentious (whatever that means) and will just shit on them for trying to do something different, but really, we are still discussing Dark Souls 1 lore to this day, and I think it's much better than just being forgotten after a couple of weeks like most games.

There's no indication that golden scaled armor is the Dragonslayer uniform. If anything, the Dragonslayers wore Silver Knight armor, since Ornstein's armor is just a modified version of that and there's a bunch of Silver Knights with Dragonslayer bows.

My theory is Aldrich is the player character from Das1. In DaS1 we consumed all those bosses souls. The only person to "eat" them was us because we defeated them. Could also explain why Aldrich uses the gravelord GS, the lifehunt scythe and the moonlight bow. It's just the boss weapons he/we made.

I didn't feel like it was a petty jab at all. DaS2 is fairly honored by DaS3. Creighton is one of the harder NPC invaders, so I don't think they just wanted to shit on the game. Gilligan was a bit of a slimeball as far as I recall, it might just be a retrospective joke to say that a man who charged other people extortionate rates to build ladders was killed by his own cheap and shoddy craftsmanship.

I figure that's kind of to be expected if they've been scorched like that. Most of their width would have been burned away. I can't imagine what else a bumch of huge subterranean tree-like objects that stretch to the horizon would be, if not archtrees in some form.
