I'm level 41 and I've got ~600K Gil from a mixture of quests, selling the quest reward gear on the market board and buying large quantities of craft mats then flogging smaller volumes at a markup but I feel like I could be doing more.

I've investigated that.
Most of the materials you can gather are worthless, and it takes like 5-10 seconds on average to gather a single item due to all the running between nodes malarkey.
The stuff that actually is worth money seems to be paradoxically obtained by breaking down the items you gather; but only with a low droprate, and with an even lower chance of getting "high quality". Plus these mechanics only open up at level 60 or some shit.

I make a couple of mil a day just doing aetherial reduction inbetween waiting for scrip nodes to spawn. It's not big money in the grand scheme of things but all I want is a house when they release new wards and I''ll have more than enough by then. Getting filthy rich through crafting requires a lot of time and gil investment since leveling crafters past 50 is expensive as fuck and you need to level several crafts to 50 just to get the essential abilities. Gatherers on the other hand are fast to level, will actually make you some money in the process and provide you with a steady stream of income with gear you can just buy off the market board.
