I'm all for bending history by bringing the more surreal aspects of the war to the forefront.
There was a lot of cool stuff that looks like it belongs in alt history. Not all of it was effective or widely implemented, but I think the fact that weird shit like the Paris gun existed at all should be a good excuse to allow a healthy amount of creative license.

so what the game is only gonna be 1918? The way i want the game to start is that you start off as some nameless British solider getting rotated to the front. You start in some green pasture and start walking forward with your fellow men as you get closer you start to see more and more of the battlefield unfold you pass some blown up cars and the tree's and green is slowly replaced by mud and brown as you get closer to the front you start to see mangled bodies on the ground. Then you get to the front with a massive artillery barrage taking place meanwhile some British officer is giving a pep talk and then orders fix bayonets. The shelling comes to a stop and its really quiet then suddenly you here whistles blow all along the line and you go over the top people getting shot all around you make it almost half way until you to are gunned down. The camera pulls back and you see line after line of dudes getting rekt and the words First Day of The Somme appear on screen then the real story starts.

I've always thought WW1 was more fascinating than WW2, mostly because no faction is really "the bad guys" in it - it's just a whole bunch of people fighting and dying for a worthless cause in a war that benefited nobody.
It also puts a great contrast on WW2 - the way Germany got completely fucked over by the Versailles treaty really shows why another world war was pretty much inevitable. The usual portrayal of the Axis just being "evil" during WW2 kinda falls apart when you look at how the victors of WW1 treated Germany after the war - no wonder the Nazis rose to power and wanted to conquer Europe.
But as always, history is written by the victors.
So are we going to actually have Bolt-Action Rifles where every shot counts?

Not sure how I feel about this. I'm fascinated about the first world war. How armies that were used to fighting wars with large formations and cavalry charges in brightly coloured uniforms struggled to adapt with new technologies such as the machine gun and poison gas. How men who grew up knowing war as something romanticized from the Napoleon era to hell on earth.
I don't think a videogame could convey such a feeling, let alone something put out by EA with an emphasis on semi-serious arcadey multiplayer.
