You're doing something wrong.
She is powerful up close. This means you can flank with her while moving around the payload or capture point. She can fly up to spots where snipers and hanzos are to kill them off. You can counter bastion or phara easily with your shield.
Your ult is excellent for scattering people from capture points or payloads (might even get some kills). If you have a coordinated team they can really appreciate it.
And lastly, you don't even die when your mech gets destroyed. You're nimble enough without it to get a kill or two and hopefully get a new mech. I found that she's often fast and hard to hit so that she can basically almost melee widowmakers/tracers/hanzos.
