Good game? Sell me on it, /v/
>>336934908
If I want to play as Fungoid 10, what ethos and traits would you suggest to fit them?
>>336935362
That's race selection, not leader selection. Leaders are impermanent anyway. This isn't Civ.
So is there any truth to the lag thing? I didn't see any in the multiplayer game until there was the massive zooming on the final battle. He lowered game speed and it got better.
I have slightly better than recommended specs.
>>336935414
Materialistic? Not exactly a federation trait, but the continuum provides.

If you hover materialist you can almost read the flavor text in Sir Patrick's voice.
I figure a little materialism is a pretty human quality that pushes us as much as our pursuit for knowledge. Or enables us.

Materialistic is as much about the absence of religion as it as about purchasing things in Stellaris.

Materialism in Stellaris is the pursuit of Science.
It is materialism as opposed to spiritualism. Shitty name, but the Fed are as materialist as it gets.

Would this game be recommended to someone who hasn't played a space sim since Masters of Orion 2? And how does it compare?

2 days?
Maybe 3?
One thing is clear, im not going to pay 40$ to latter be bombarded with DLCs by those snowniggers
Where my nomadic science bros at?Ignore generic backstory
>>336937704
I feel that to properly do playable AI justice you'd need a major content DLC with unique mechanics, trying to play as an AI "species" right now would feel just as wrong as trying to play muslims in vanilla crusader kings
>>336937773
Sleep to noon apparently
goddamn socialists
>>336937818
It's your average steam DRM, no denuvo.
>>336937902
>repugnant
Wat.
>>336937704
Actually if the AI revolts, they create their own empire which has their own modifiers and such. You will probably be able to switch to them via the console, the same way you switch to other nations in EU4.
Shame about the no apes though.
>>336937861
In 2~3 hours after release at most
Can I make something like tyranids and consume/assimilate enemy planets?
I wonder, are there any galaxy scale events like say supernovas that affect a lot of planets of different species?
>>336937220
>Fungoid:12
You mean the giant rigid space penises?
>>336938128
It'll probably be an eventual expansion DLC.
>>336937704
>No Synthetic/Robot/AI races
They would play too differently from organic races, and there no reason to make 1 race with totally different gameplay and 40 others with same
Apes in top left corner, you can even make race of black only humans if you into it
>>336937704
>No generic "greys"
What?
Also there are robots, it's just that they're too powerful to start as. Just cause an AI uprising and then switch to the rebel faction.
>>336938153
There are large scale catastophes that can happen, not sure about natural disasters like that though. Might be cool if implemented properly.
Is there a torrent? I want to buy it but want to make sure it's not absolutely garbage first.
>>336938034
>mfw disgusting humans who don't know how disgusting they are
>>336937704
I said the same thing. The solution is:
Research synths/robots, use them to colonize a planet, and then release the planet to be its own entity. Then save/reload and play as that civilization
It's not a midnight launch right?
>>336937704
>No raptors
>No bug races
>>336938083
thing is though those robots are most decidedly not balanced for play given they're supposed to be a threat to a lategame universe by themselves
>>336938128
there's a species like that but they're an endgame event because consuming planets is way out of the tech scale presented at the start
>>336937220
Literally all wrong
>>336937704
Robots are confirmed in the game. You can't pick them at start but you can let some robots colonize a planet and then cede it/reload to play as the robot empire if you want.
>>336938381
There's an entire bug phenotype, what are you talking about?
>>336938326
>it's not absolutely garbage
but it is.
It's parajew we're talking about anon come on.
>>336938357
It makes sense. Robots need to be created by another race in the first place.
So they can't exactly start when everyone else does.
>>336938381
>No bug races
What? Are you retarded?
>>336938384
They're a threat to lategame universe because assumedly all the empires are using a robot workforce by this point and then all of a sudden they all join under the same banner at the same time.
I don't think a small colony of robots starting from scratch would enjoy the same advantages.
>>336938034
You know a natural human defense is to stink/be unappetizing, right
Like we totally smell awful in the context of nature
>>336938381
Raptors are under Avian, not Reptilian.
Is there stuff like organic spaceships and organic evolution instead of tech research?
>>336938343
More disgusting than the floaty things with their heads where their asses should be and gas spewing out of the top holes 24/7?
>>336938641
There are organic spaceships called space amobaes that if you destroy and then reverse research their debris a lot, you will be able to make your own.
>>336938308
proper implementation of a supernova could be pretty neat for a galactic flavor event given that it would be a major occurrence that would last 40 to even 100 (ingame) years with first the star going unstable giving particularly daring scientists the opportunity for some high risk/reward R&D, and once it blows up the photon "blastwave" is gonna move at lightspeed so its gonna take several years to reach planets within the danger zone giving you time to evacuate or even with high science try to tank it and with more balls even place some form of research station right in the path
>>336938565
Nnnno not particularly, I think our stink is more a byproduct. I'd say Skunks have the genuine thing as a defense mechanism.
Besides, humans wash themselves unless we're talking basement dwellers and those the aliens do not meet
>>336938553
they have been confirmed as being vastly more efficient than anything an organic species ever could do so I'd say a single colony of them, with sufficient resources, would be a possible threat on the level of fallen civ waking up with other robot uprisings turning it from regional issue to galactic issue
>>336938905
Humans washing themselves is an extremely recent development as far as evolutionary timescales go. I'm sure he is referring to unwashed human stench.
I hope the AI isn't fucked like in Civ V
>>336938384
Maybe?
>Not wanting to nuke some Skinnies
>Not wanting to flame some Bugs
>Not wanting to skate around 300 miles of terrain in power armor
It's like you don't want to have fun.
>>336939040
unwashed humans aren't all that nasty compared to other large mammals
>>336938650
I mean they think you're weird because your face ISNT on the bottom. It's all perspective and what you're used to.
>>336939040
Yeah but we're talking about current humanity (or if i'm anal about it even more we're talking about future humanity) so that stink isn't a factor. We even have all kinds of products just to make ourselves more attractive/appealing in smell and looks, that goes by human standards of course but it means we put the effort in
Is there a reason behind the 4-point starter traits? To get them you will always have a trait pick left over but no more points.
>>336939248
Well compared to the other races out there they are still the most uncommon ones out there, even the other fungoids have their head/crown area's on the top
>>336938835
Fuck this game sounds awesome.
Can't wait to pirate
>>336939347
Yes, people who don't suffer from OCD are capable of having unfilled slots.
>>336939347
So you only have to take 2 bad traits instead of 3 I guess
>>336936679
I like salt on my french fries
>>336939164
why strong? humans aren't that strong.
I'm hype but every stellaris thread on /v/ is new retards asking dumb questions and faggots asking people to "sell me the game". Way to go gaylords take this moment to reflect upon your stupidity
>>336939347
Sadly I don't think them worth it. I'd like to take the venerable one but it means that will be your only positive trait you're able to take because you're only able to spend that last slot on a negative which you generally wouldn't do for obvious reasons.
I wish it was 3 points in cost, that one, or at least have another slot available
>>336939305
And there's also the fact that we can't really predict what we'll smell like to aliens given its likely to be completely different from our own, unlike sight which at worst will be located within the near IR/UV band at worst
that said something I could see alien species be grossed out about is the mammal process of lactation. Sure most of us are instinctively programmed to find it completely okay but to a species that doesn't have a concept anything like it, its gotta be fucking nasty yo.
>>336939552
Compared to most other spacefaring races humans are actually very strong
>>336939164
>>336939552
its book starship troopers. humans aren't strong but their power armor sure is, especially when it launches atomic bombs and can jet around at several hundred miles per hour.
>>336937841
Cheers!
>>336939552
Maybe we are, compared to the other alien races that reach the same height. We're probably a lot stronger than those noodle armed fungoids
Do beneficial traits have unique technologies associated with them as well?
>>336939347
I'm not certain, but I know when you research genetic techs some give you +1 trait points, so I think any leftover from the beginning will carry into your game allowing you to pick a 2 point trait sooner
>>336939763
So make them weak and give your ground troops power armor.
>>336938553
They get thing like +50% production, -50% upkeep, -50% production cost, etc as a race trait.
>>336939164
Came here to post this. Though I'd start as a military republic first (it has the whole civilian/citizen distinction) and then transition to a stratocracy during the game.
>>336939552
we can't really know that do we, we have no alien lifeforms to compare ours to
could be earth's gravity is pretty high compared to most of the other sapient species' planets and the mammalian skeletal structure is a lot more solid than usual
though in that situation we'd likely be one of the shortest sapient species as well so take it as you want
>>336939679
It's a pretty common process though in nature, assuming of course animals might develop along similar routes on similar planets out there.
At least the parents feeding young part is a common thing
Can government style change (say, from military junta to despotic empire) over the course of the game, and do you have any influence in how it changes?
>>336940030
yes
Probably gonna try to have the robot Armageddon on my first playthru as the indian empire. Hopefully there will be a spectator view so I can see what will happen after I die
>>336935074
how do you get the background like that? Mine just has tons of overlap.
>>336939978
>humans are the manlets of space
Fuck.
Can you tech from one of the starting 3 warp techs into another eventually, and start using different kinds of FTL drives on different types of ships?
>>336939985
parents feeding young is common, parents feeding young with their own body fluids? not so much
after all birds feeding their young by puking in their mouths is fairly gross to us as well, and at least birds and mammals evolved on the same planet
also an egg-laying external fertilization alien species could easily consider our sex and subsequent pregnancy to be abhorrent
>>336940030
It can change whenever you want to whatever your ethics allow. There will probably be factions that demand government changes.
>>336939920
Tried that but collectivist disables military republic.
>>336939552
What >>336939763 said.
>>336939906
Also an option!
>>336940030
Pops will change ideologies over the course, it's entirely possible to lose against a say, hippie rebellion, and become a republic
>>336940030
You can change rather haphazardly if you got the tech for it.
>>336940030

>>336940213
Hah I can see them definitely thinking our pregnancy abhorrent. It's not very effective and quite the painfull and even disgusting process even to many of our own kind, I mean especially if you know what can happen during birth
This game cracked yet? Wouldn't mind pirating it to see if I like it.
>>336940365

>>336940387
If it's anything like EU, Vicky or CK, it depends entirely on what kind of rebellion. Some rebellions will influence stuff in your country, but you won't lose it. Other rebellions (independence factions, for instance) could make you lose the game if you end up with nothing left to rule.

Replace collectivist with Xenophobe and you can do Military Republic and still be true to the source.
>>336941089
It doesn't have "actual" combat.
You can give some basic orders IIRC, like fight defensively or whatever, but that's it.
>>336940763
That would be a pretty sweet deal actually, provided the humans show some tact of course and are carefull about not looking THIS bad.
Nobody wants to mess with the guys that can rip your arm off with ease, yet are reasonable enough not to be counted as fucking viscious savages
>send image to my friend

One of the more fun HFY stories is the one where humans are these biologically impossible monstrosities, born on a world so heavy with metal, surrounded by an ecosystem driven toxic by the need for constant adaptation to a hostile environment of infinite variation, and even breathing corrosive gas.
That it is some kind of cosmic joke that humans consider themselves weak, when a human could pretty much rip most of the other life in the galaxy apart with their bare hands, and even when killed their internal bacteria could wipe out most alien ecosystems.

Just because humans could be considered gross to other aliens, doesn't mean they are.
With that thinking, all alien life forms in the game have to be repugnant, because some life form will find them disgusting.
Reminder that if you're using slavery you're literally playing on easy mode since they removed the ability for slaves to revolt.
>>336941643

Best traits for the Imperium of Man?
How about Government? Divine Mandate?
Ethic Points? Fanatic Xenophobe a must.
Spiritualist to get Divine Mandate.
Projectile or Energy Weapons?
FTL? Hyperspace until you can unlock Jump Drive?

>>336942294
You can't conquer individual planets without ground forces.
>>336942294
You do still have assault and defense armies, and orbital defenses, so i'd say it matters. But what I meant more so was that it matters in relation to diplomacy and the potential roles for humanity in an alliance and what they have to offer amongst other things, their superior strength would be a boon in a number of things if we're talking about full cooperation between species
>>336942317
I'd drop xenophobe to regular and take militaristic, since they're usually willing to (temporarily) cooperate with aliens if necessary.

All GSG games are playable. You just have to play more and more. Accepting losses when they happen and savor victory when you achieve it.
>>336935624
They're so materialist they kill themselves every day through the transporter.
>>336942564
This. The Imperium of Man certainly is xenophobic (and with good reason) but not THAT fanatically xenophobic that any and all cooperation at any time or circumstance is a no-go. They are even willing to work the arrogant Eldar from time to time.
I'd say regular xenophobe, militaristic and spiritualist. Maybe drop the spiritualist for light materialist depending what kind of Imperium you're going for

Well, besides the biting the spine part.
>>336942868
You forget law enforcement would be a thing. As long as that gets properly set up when there's full cooperation than nobody can really blame the humans, it's just a matter of not knowing their strength and some individuals unfortunately getting involved in a fight somehow

They're using a modified version of the same old engine, so almost certainly yes.
>>336943253
No meaningful DLC planned atm, all just race reskins
>>336943039
if humans are strong enough that a powerful punch shatters bones and ruptures organs I could see using humans as law enforcement to end up with a lot of brutality charges and anti-police protests
and yeh that was my point, for us it would be an unfortunate matter of our kind not knowing their own strength as we're not used to being captain america, but if, especially early on before humans have been properly raised culturally to watch out around aliens, humans tend to end a lot of fights permanently on alien planets that could significantly hurt our image

I grabbed Resilient but don't really know what other traits would be good.
Any ideas?
>>336943435
It's waiting for you anon
>>336943415
No I meant the law enforcement thing as in the humans involved would be prosecuted and punished for what happened, not that aliens would per se use humans as part of their law enforcement (mainly because it would be overkill like you said, its a bit hard to not be too rough if they are that frail and in the heat of the moment)
So long as there is proper law enforcement for parties involved on both sides of the problem then humanity as a whole can't really be blamed

>>336943751
More like they'll have 10 reskins and music packs for every 1 DLC that actually adds something to the gameplay.
>>336943780
lol
All science. All the time.
>>336943717
sure humanity technically can't be blamed but if people end up dying around humans, with said humans living through most encounters, I could easily see resentment building up
or you could even get the mother of all diplomacy fuck ups if in the first situation this happens to a drunk human and drunk alien, said aliens are quick to convict the human for murder first degree, bonus points if they still practice executions and the human military is determined to get their boy home
that's the sort of thing that ends up with embargos, fleets staring eachother down and decades worth of resentment
>>336943693

This would be mine, although mine is Great Crusade Era.
For the race traits I wasn't super sure on what to pick, so I picked traits that boost the leaders as to best represent the Emperor. We can't have eternal leaders just yet.
Obviously you're going to be going military as to facilitate the Great Crusade and mankind's manifest destiny of the galaxy, so fanatic militarist is an obvious pick. I also picked Xenophobe because generally the Imperium was hostile to any Xeno that stood in the way of Humanity; although, materialist was a close pick since the Emperor was very big on the whole secularism thing so I think either would work.
Military Dictatorship for the government type best simulates the Emperor's control of the Imperium I feel.

I'd say drop militarist down a rank and pick up spiritual. The Emps was planning on stopping conflict at some point, not an unending lifestyle.
>>336944656
GC-era Emperor wasn't too big on the religious worship part though.
>>336944656
The Emperor actively supressed thinking that he was a god, though; going as far to publically shame one of his sons and the World Bearers legion for writing a book on how godlike he was.

Shit whatever I'll just look up a lets play you're right Im dumb.
Anyone know where I can find the race maker?
>>336951219
Enthusiast level shit would be like Aurora, but it'd help a lot to have some previous experience with at least EU4 and CK2 to lessen the learning curve.
>>336935074
If orcs aren't fanatic militarist then I don't know what race ever could be
>>336951421
The blorg
>>336951410
I wouldn't even say that were needed. Looking at streams the learning curve is pretty small, just having a grasp of Civilization like games would probably be enough.
>>336951410
>>336951659
Alright cool. I was probably gonna pick it up anyways, but cool, thanks anons.
Reposting, lets see some more empires

Think about it. Unlike the other space-mammals, we are hairless, spindly, squishy and release a smelly liquid when we get too hot.
>>336952685
Not hairless, just less hairy. That's like saying Dolphins would be repugnant to us because they appear smoother. We are not any more strangely formed than other kinds of species as far as we know, and I doubt they have never before encountered something that is squishy.
As for the smelly liquid, we clean ourselves and put an effort in to avoid smelling
>>336952992
>we clean ourselves and put an effort in to avoid smelling
This isn't a great argument. If a slug-man shot thick slime out of it's pores when exposed to sunlight, even if they made an effort to apply sunscreen, it wouldn't stop you from finding the concept repulsive.
desu I don't remember seeing a hype thread like this on /v/ apart from dark souls 3. I never thought that many people would be hyped for stellaris. It's evennumber 1 in global sellers on steam.
Also /Belannaer on twitch has the prethoryn scourge event if anyone wants to see

On the one hand,
> Paradox Jewing.
> Swedecuck game design
On the other hand
> Finally a modern space colonization game where I can create a glorious golden interstellar empire for mankind
> Mods might remove Swedecuck.
What do?
>>336952338
Is it Monday yet?
I don't think I've never been so hyped for monday
>releasing 18:00 CEST
Who thought this was a good idea?
>>336954183
It's good if you're an Americlap
>>336954241
I guess so, but I wanted to play the game tonight.
Oh well, I guess I can be patient. Maybe I have been pampered by midnight and morning releases for all these years.
What galaxy size and type will everyone be playing on?
>>336954487
1000 stars
Elliptical
>>336954487
600 stars 4 arm spiral to start with
>>336944075

One day I hope we have the technology to combine this with space flight games. It would be great to control your empire from the bridge of a capital ship, then take control of the capital ship and do planetary bombardments yourself.

PARADOX IS FINISHED!
>>336944947
Fuck yes Alpha Centauri.
>>336954241
Why is it good? If they released it earlier we could get it today...
>>336955591
Fuck you, I checked
>>336955684
Because it's at least Monday and not fucking Tuesday
This thread has me hyped about this game and I know absolutely nothing about it.
Is it an RTS, Turn based strategy, is it like CIV, or is it like a Total War game?
>>336956373
I guess I can dig it coming out in the morning and being able to play all day rather than getting it at night and only being able to play a little bit before gotobed, but still, I want it now ;_;
>>336953806
Megacorp is a government form, by the way. Advanced form of the plutocratic oligarchy.
You'll be able to select it after you request the tech for advanced government forms, so you might want to think up an actual name for your corp
>>336956414
Like a real time civ.
posting it here too, ORK WIP, taking a lot less than expected!
I think It will be ready for tomorrow , thinking about doing my first play with them
>>336956502
Hm, sounds interesting. Are there any other games that play like it so I can do some more research?
Sounds like an RTS, but obviously you wouldn't have the base building and resource gathering mixed with the micro/macro.
>>336948054
Not sure how experienced you are with strategy games, but it's certainly one of the easier Paradox strategy titles to get into.
Mostly that's because you start off small and get eased into the bigger stuff over time.
>>336956647
Dude that is coming along really well, keep it up.WAAAAGGGGHHH
>>336948920
Yes. Vassaling, alliances and federations are all possible.
>>336956647
Doing nice and orky, mekboys should be the researchers, freebootas or cult of speed the captains of your ships.
>>336948721
Blorg one on the paradox extra youtube
>buy game on GMG
>still haven't received key
Did I get diddled‽
>>336934908
is that will be good ?
I never heard about it and i dont really understand what type of game it is
What's the advantage to hyperdrive over warp?
>>336957989
Faster, more hit and run focused.
>>336957846
No, it'll be released at launch
GMG aren't even grey market, they're a totally legit store
>>336957846
Stop being impatient, the keys don't go out until release. There's no pre-load for it anyway.
>>336957989
Warp is the slowest form of travel
>>336957846
GMG are always right at or just before launch which is 17 hours away
I haven't even got mine from cdkeys yet and they usually just rip the keys off boxes
>>336957989
Hyperdrive is faster at the expense of free movement. Good for some aggressive tactics but can limit the ways you can expand early on.
>>336949129
I pray for this to be a bait
>>336958280
>>336958320
>>336958432
Oh ok, as long as it's soon after launch then I guess that's fine. Just worried I might need to wait a few weeks for them to send my key or something.
>>336958512
And you just fell for it.
>>336958470
I have a feeling hyperdrive is gonna op as shit for people that can rapidly expand with their traits.
I'm going to continue my Fylkirate game. I have a custom Norse name list. Spiritual and Fanatic Militarist Ethos, Theocractic Oligarchy, and Strong/Nomadic species traits.
I was bored
How did I do?
>>336958787
Well I don't think travel time is the biggest bottleneck to expansion is it? The flexibility of warp in being able to pick and choose exactly the systems you want (rather than being stuck expanding around the hyperlanes) could win out eventually.
>>336957989
Faster than warp and you can do it from anywhere, no need to reach the edge
>>336959160
Warp is just a shitty hyperspace the one you want is wormholes
>>336934908
what game
Can you travel back in time in this game?
This seems interesting.
Hypothetically, let's say I have a piece o shit laptop from 2010 that can run dragon age origins at max. Can I play this? Also, how much jew gold must a shell out?
