Because you're looking at images of men stuck in trenches for several years. Imagine living in a place where the lights are almost never on, the floor is never dry, your boots are always broken and your feet are slowly rotting off as lice pick away at every bit of hair on your body, rats chew at your ankles, and you are forced to once again eat another series of long-expired canned goods because the war-profiteers at home realized it was far cheaper to send low-quality and expired goods to the front line than fresh food.
On top of that, at any given moment, a guy who hasn't fought in a single conflict for over 30 years and is still used to cavalry charges and cannon-fire as methods of winning a battle forces you and your bros, day after day, month after month, to jump out of those trenches and run in 100 yard stretches towards the enemy line- which is far better equipped than you in terms of weaponry.

Assault gets explosives and AT mines. Keep in mind that WWI tanks are NOTHING like modern tanks. For starters the tanks shown in the trailer are British Mark Vs. They have no top mounted rotating turret. They only have side mounted turrets and a front mounted machine gun. So unlike the tanks in BF2-4, these tanks have massive blind spots and will require actual teamwork to be effective. Gone are the days of one man army tanks.

The Harlem Hellfighters were never bogged down in the stalemate of the trenches any time as long as the British, French or Germans by any margin.
All the fighting they saw was dramatically light in the mop-up years coming to the end.
American forces saw next to nothing of WW1 and what they did see was a culture shock that rapidly smashed apart their inferior military and forced them into the modern age to be prepared for WW2.

He fought against the French, English, Scottish and Indians.He goes into great detail in the combat and does not get bogged down in anti-war rhetoric like many other authors as he describes his full range of emotions (Excitement, worry, fear and even fun) on the battlefield.
