Gameplay wise it be a standard collect-a-thon, story wise Gex would be a forgotten has been trying to ride the coattail of 90's nostalgia.
Or alternatively have it still look and play like a late 90's platformer and all the jokes and parodies are written with a 90's perspective in mind. Maybe try to bill it as a Gex 4 that was finished but never released.

I watched a speedrun of 2 and 3 recently. Man, some of those levels are annoying, like the greek level in 3 as well as the bonus stages that are exactly the same except with a shorter time limit.
I don't even want to remember Rez's level in 2. What a nightmare. The ninja levels give me such an isolated feeling too.
