Got this one right now 1st timer in DaS1. Not really liking it, guess it'd be better for pyromancer but what can you do.
Really hating this "buy or find armors" system. All I've found is hot shit, up to Sens Fortress right now and I'm doing Darkroot Basin because that trap infested hellhole is making me mad.

Anon, you almost never pick armor for stats, gold-hemmed is just pretty. In 1, however, just look into getting the highest poise armor you can still medium roll with and remember you can upgrade them sonetimes.

Fast and medium roll are harder to see, but fat roll is quite obvious, stuff the heaviest armor to see it, fat roll has your character going half the distance and just throwing themselves at the ground.
And yes, that's the use of poise, some sprcific armors might let you take a hit or two but healing or attacking uninterrupted is much better.

Alright thanks for the info anon. Picked up some heavier armors along the way, got one recently from darkroot basin after I unlocked the door with artorias seal too. I'll sit down and see what I can come up with.

Mostly doing stuff you missed on your first playthrough; NPC questlines, different build via Rosaria etc.
