I'm not that anon but I'll try to explain the tragic misunderstanding that triggered the events of Risk of Rain.
The facts:
>the UES Contact Light is a cargo ship that contains a lot of weird shit (see item logs)
>it also holds pic related
>that teleporter is identical to the ones you find and use on the planet
>it can be accessed from the Divine teleporter you find in the temple
>Providence uses it to get on the ship and kill everyone
>Providence's title is "Bulwark of the Weak"
>Providence is intelligent (controls the worms, speaks)
>monster log writer says he feels wrong after killing him
What we can assume:
>the teleporter was stolen from the planet
>whoever stole the portal must have killed some of the local species in the process
>transport ship is unlucky enough to fly close to that planet
>Providence detects the teleporter in the vicinity and thinks the thiefs are back, kills everyone to protect his planet
My completely unrelated theory that I like:the imps are the Origin (wink wink) of the teleporter technology

If you aren't fighting just one mob, treat Festering Wounds as DoT instead of a basic attack. The poison lasts as long as Epidemic. You don't want a group killing you when you
can just Caustic Sludge / Neurotoxin kite groups like crazy.
If your sludge is still down, you can do drive-by Neurotoxin / Festering Wounds to reapply the DoT and zip away before much is done. Basically, you kite back over the group, make sure they are kind of stacked, Neurotoxin back towards them, Festering Wounds once, and continue the kiting.

2D platformer roguelite with 4 player co-op. If you don't like shit like Spelunky, you won't like Risk of Rain.
It isn't flat out sidescroller, like Super Mario World. Each level is a big map that is (somewhat) randomly generated and you need to find the portal to the next level. You can find/but items along the way. Upon activating the teleporter, you have to do a gauntlet fight that has a boss alongside it. After 90 seconds, you kill everything that was spawned during that time to be able to go to the next level.
Can't really "sell you" on it. It is a pretty simple concept. If it isn't your thing, it isn't your thing.
