I don't even know why I play online anymore. This game is more infuriating than it is fun.
I've literally broken three controllers raging at the fucking laggy bullshit in this game.
This is one of the shitiest Smash groups I've ever played in. There are some cool players, but every game is plagued with one tryhard/camper who just wants to win at all costs and it ruins the game. Whether it's a Villager who spends half the FREE FOR ALL off stage just shooting people and running when approached, or a Pac-Man who does practically the same thing.

/v/eekends have been a fucking mess forever now.
Like, Mario Kart 7 was the first /v/eekend I ever remember seeing. I thought nothing of it, joined, and had literally some of the most fun I've ever had online. The generals were great, everyone had a great time, skill and items were balanced better than other MK games.
But MK7 died after a few misguided attempts to bring new /v/eekends to life. I figured smash would get /v/eekends would work well, but the limited nature of these things and the inability to ban certain stages on choice absolutely kills it.
One faggot can bring the whole thing down, and unlike MK7, Smash is P2P which means one even slightly bad connection ruins the whole thing.
This isn't helped by the fact that some seriously dedicated faggots join these every week, pick a character to spam from afar, pick the worst gimmick maps or fuckheug maps, and purposefully plaly on shitty wifi.
It's also not helped that the campy playstyle is rewarded in Smash 4 because simply it's too fucking difficult to approach spam characters with any microscopic amount of input lag and further unhelped by the fact that there are more projectile characters in the game than close-up characters.
It's been a long time coming, but I think I'm gonna finally have to cave and admit Smash 4 is not balanced, but broken. Unless you play top tier characters online, you're gonna get wrecked by any semi-decent projectile wielder simply because it's easy.

That sounds like a shame. I've had amazing Smash 4 FFA fun with the right playgroup. I guess different people are looking for different things. When I play FFA, I like a variety of stuff, between sometimes items, sometimes no items, variety of stages, custom stages. It's fun when nobody takes it seriously, and especially fun if everyone is in a voice chat room.
1v1 Smash is generally my fav, and that by nature is more competitive. I think it's practically an entirely different game than FFA Smash though. FFA Smash just feels like goofing off, and I just find it annoying when people take it so seriously that they just camp and hide the whole match because they are that desperate to win.
