You don't actually believe the "shields are useless" meme, right? Shields hard counter the inviso-skellies like a rock/paper/scissors set-up. They can't punch through a default stamina bar and they'll miss half the hits anyway if you just L1 while circling them. Backstab or punish at your leisure and then let your stamina refill.

Aside from the few times dogs are mixed with other enemies, just wait for it to bite your shield. It can't dodge your follow up because of it is locked in an animation.

BB is inherently faster due the player's dash. It's so integral to the flow of combat that if you try to fight certain bosses and enemies without it, you realize it's completely unfeasible. You need that kind of dodge speed in order to have enough time to counterattack effectively.

Except thats wrong. Nes castlevania is far less forgiving than any souls game. I mastered SGnG on snes when I was 7. First one I played was DaS1 and it was all pretty easy except O&S for obvious reasons.

I didnt know you could lock on or summon until halfway through DaS1 either.

The EXACT same thing happened to me, except I killed the wyvern with a bow, before getting fucked up by the rock lizards like a retard and dropped 400,000 souls.

In my desperation to get my souls back, I equipped a ring of sacrifice and made a mad dash through the lizards, before getting fucked up by that fucking chain axe one. I tried again, made it to the rock lizards, and got hit by one off a cliff right in front of my souls.

BB heavy weapons are just as fast as Souls ones.
BB FAST weapons are even on the level of Souls stuff, the longsword is actually a tiny bit faster than the saw cleaver.
The sidestep is not that much faster than the dodge and it's real advantage is having less wakeup frames.
Stop being shit, if anything, faster enemies are a godsend because they at least pose some kind of challenge.

In terms of difficulty, I would subjectively rate the games as the following:
BB >= DaS3 > DeS = DaS2 = DaS1

My conclusion is that both BB and DaS3 belong to the newer generation of soulsgames where enemies and bosses are usually faster and more proactive.

Yes you can.

Pontiff Sullyvhan gets stunned after 3 Kukri's for example. He'll just eat the first 2, but the third will stagger him. Same with a bunch of enemies, they'll take a few hits but enough will stagger them.

Although hyper-armour on enemy attacks seems a bit too prevelent. In BB you could interupt most humsn(ish) sized enemies by attacking them mid-combo, which also gave you a whopping 80% counter hit bonus.

In DaS3 it's not worth it since most of the time you'll just trade hits since everyone has hyperarmour now.

Even though most people define Wonderful 101 as character action or hard stylish action, and most people view Souls as the complete opposite of that, Wonderful 101 has a ton of design decisions more in tune with Souls than with its contemporaries like DMC and Bayo.

I like bringing up the Wonderful 101 comparison though because people seem to point to the speed of Dark Souls when discussing its combat, and I think its speed is besides the point. The strength of From Software's combat is how methodical and deliberate it is, it just happens to be slower paced than most action games. But I wholeheartedly believe that that isn't a necessity and in my opinion 101% Hard (because the stamina and time management on the other difficulties is much more lax) is a perfect proof of concept that you can adapt the Souls/Monster Hunter model of committing to actions or managing resources to fit a much faster and flashier game style without compromising it.

I haven't played it because I don't have a PS4, but if you want to talk about Souls like games that get shit on, Lords of the Fallen is one of my favorites. I mean yeah, there are a ton of legit problems people can have with it, but I thought it was great and really enjoyed playing it. It also was the first game iv played that made me feel, I would say powerful? I guess. As a heavy melee character. I mean you hit someone with a hammer and they really fucking know it and so do you.

I also liked how they handled their "souls" system. The more you kept them, the higher your multiplier became. So it was more risk reward. Carry around a big bank of them and you hit harder and faster, die and you rush back to them because they start dissipating. But you might die if you rush too fast and get caught. It also was neat in a way, that it kind of felt at least aethetically like playing Diablo 2 endgame but in 3rd person. The enemies screamed diablo at me in design.

Best moment in the game for me was no selling boss enemies with my greatshield.

I honestly felt that Gwyn was a better fight. Gwyn at the least was dynamic, and you could do a lot of cool things with positioning.

Eh, I've never really dug the Gwyn fight.
The fact that it can be completely trivialized by a single mechanic is a huge oversight.
Its one thing I think they've learned their lesson on.
