I think they fucked up hard making the Season Pass all multiplayer related.

I get why though since they realize the singleplayer is the heart of the game and it wouldn't look good to have singleplayer DLC when they make a big deal out of SnapMap.

But honestly, I think a few well crafted single player expansions would've made more sense and the mp stuff could've been just extra content. As long at it was only cosmetic. Locking maps and guns and playable demons behind a paywall is a terrible idea and will kill the muliplayer if people say fuck it and just mes around with SnapMap single and multiplayer. Even with the latter limited to just four players.

As far as SnapMap goes, that is a major focus so hopefully over time they listen to what the community wants and it turns into a deeper editing experience. Maybe they'll support giving idStudio tools for PC players down the line. But people need to keep the pressure on Bethesda to provide more detailed tools for those that can handle it.

It's a feature focused on getting amateurs to make their own content, but it doesn't mean it can't be a great tool in the hands of skilled players.

I personally liked the level design, the atmosphere, the extremely reactive controls (something that you almost never see in games since around 2006 - it's actually shocking to me when I imagine that a lot of kids who grew up after 2000 have actually never played a game that didn't feel like your mouse is weighted down by a bag of bricks). The overall simplicity of the game was great too. No loadouts, no drops, no upgrades, no crafting. You start with the pistol, mow down the enemies, pick up new weapons. I don't want "back to basics" "arcade-style" "classic" gameplay, I want a shooter. I played the beta and was extremely disappointed.

Then I watched an hour of worth of the single player game that Bethesda released and got super fucking pumped.

I realized then that I never played any of the other Doom titles for their multiplayer and only their single player portions. It really does seem like they got the whole 'Keep moving and killing' aspect down that I enjoyed from the previous titles.

Doom 3 wasn't THAT cinematic and a lot of what it did wasn't so cliche at the time. I thought it was a step in the right direction, personally, that they tried to go for the horror angle. I always had the impression that Doom was a subtle horror game -- not totally in-your-face supernatural but more action oriented with a macabre twist. The demons scared the shit out of me when I was a little kid so when Doom 3 was announced I thought it was going to be the shit. The graphics were revolutionary at the time when Doom 3 was first shown so horror was the natural direction to take the game. My gripe with it was that it didn't take the immersion far enough like HL2 did and the world felt fake and plastic despite the interactive computer screens and amazing graphics. Games and cinema have almost always been marketed towards the masses. "Nothing but capeshit", do you watch movies or is your only exposure to them through billboards and television advertisements?
